Chu Wuyang was half asleep, her consciousness still hazy. Through her blurred vision, she seemed to see that familiar, tall figure.
She felt weak all over, her eyes opening and closing intermittently before she drifted off to sleep again. Between these states of wakefulness and confusion, she felt someone taking her temperature and blood pressure.
Then a muttering sound reached my ears.
"Normal body temperature, low blood pressure. This is likely due to poor appetite, anxiety, and shock, leading to unstable blood pressure and subsequent fainting..."
Jing Min remained silent for a moment, his brows furrowed as he looked at the person on the bed. His expression changed several times, his face displaying a complex mix of emotions that were difficult to discern.
Gradually, everything seemed to calm down again.
"It's been a whole night, when are you going to wake up?"
Parker carefully considered what to say.
"Madam, you are still very weak and need to rest and sleep well. You will wake up naturally. Secondly, you need to eat a balanced diet and not skip meals."
After speaking, Jingmin glanced at the butler beside him, who nodded to indicate that he had made a mental note of it.
In a daze, Chu Wuyang felt hot all over and kicked off the blanket.
The slight commotion did not escape Jingmin's notice out of the corner of his eye, as he was giving instructions to the butler.
He sighed softly, stepped forward, and pulled the blanket over him again, then gently grasped the hand beneath it.
"Hiss!" Chu Wuyang frowned slightly, letting out a soft groan of pain.
Jing Min, puzzled, pulled out the hand from under the blanket to take a look.
The tiny wounds had dried, indicating that the doctor had treated them, but the glaring redness and swelling covered the palm of the hand.
A dark look immediately settled in his eyes.
When were you injured? How did you suddenly faint in the backyard?
I heard it took a while before someone noticed where everyone had gone.
And you haven't even been able to eat properly for just a few days?
He pursed his lips, a storm brewing in his eyes, and then put his hand back.
He strode out of the bedroom and into the living room.
The butler followed cautiously behind, his steps faltering, a bad feeling creeping into his heart.
He kept stealing glances at the person in front of him, slightly bent over, his hands nervously rubbing together in front of his eyes.
"Call over everyone who was on duty yesterday! And the person in charge of meals too."
The deep voice carried obvious displeasure.
The butler replied tremblingly, "Yes!"
In no time, the spacious living room was packed with people, who then lined up in an orderly fashion, heads bowed.
These were the people who were usually assigned to take care of Chu Wuyang, and they had learned early this morning that the madam had fainted in the backyard.
So everyone looked nervous.
Jing Min spoke in a cold voice.
Who is in charge of the food?
A young maid slowly stepped forward, her body trembling slightly, her head bowed, not daring to look directly at Jing Min.
"Madam has a poor appetite, why haven't you mentioned it at all?" She then turned to the uneasy-looking butler.
"Butler He, if I remember correctly, what I said was: 'Speak frankly about everything, big or small, without reservation,' right?"
Butler He's forehead was already covered in fine beads of sweat as he responded repeatedly.
Yes, yes, yes.
After several such pronouncements, Butler He felt a chill run down his spine.
"Was it because you didn't explain things clearly? Or were your men incompetent?" The voice carried a dangerous undertone.
The young maid's legs went weak and she immediately knelt on the ground, explaining in a tearful voice.
"Sir, I'm so sorry, please forgive me. I really didn't know it would be this serious."
At first, my wife was just eating less; I thought she was just not used to it yet and would be fine in a couple of days.
Jing Min sat on the sofa, his slender fingers lightly tapping the armrest, his eyes gently closed, seemingly extremely tired.
A cold, distant voice gave orders.
"Serious dereliction of duty, give him a beating and kick him out! Notify the industry that he will not be hired again."
The butler, unable to bear it any longer, summoned bodyguards who dragged the person away.
The young maid's sobbing and pleas for mercy still echoed in the hall.
But no one dared to speak again; everyone was too busy with their own affairs, and the living room was so quiet that you could hear their uneven breathing.
"The person who was on duty last night..."
The deep, husky voice called out names like a judgment from hell, sometimes even before the words were fully uttered.
The entire row of people knelt down simultaneously, their sobs mixed with trembling pleas for mercy, creating a chaotic scene.
"Shut up!" He rubbed his temples, closed his eyes, seemingly trying his best to endure the situation; his voice was calm but tinged with impatience.
Then she slowly opened her eyes, her once clear gaze now cold and distant.
"I said, who was on duty yesterday, what happened? And what's with that beast in the backyard?"
As he spoke, he slowly rose, methodically straightening his clothes and cuffs, and glanced at the crowd.
"Do you want me to explain everything clearly, without missing a single word?"
The oppressive voice sent a chill down my spine.
"You go first,"
The man's gaze swept over the first plump maid on his left.
The plump maid who was called out felt weak and sore in her lower limbs; her large body swayed unsteadily.
"Sir, after dinner, Madam rested alone in the bedroom. I was with the other women in the garden tending to the seedlings, watering and fertilizing them. They were with us, and we can all testify that we did not see Madam leave the house."
The anxious voice pointed to the people nearby.
The others nodded in agreement.
Jing Min didn't say anything, but his face had darkened further, and his expression clearly showed his dissatisfaction with this nonsense.
The astute butler, Mr. He, quickly stepped forward and prompted him to ask...
"Didn't I tell you the dog in the backyard was already full and didn't need to be fed? Who opened the door? It wasn't even locked."
These past few days, the bodyguards have been too idle, so they've been hunting on the private hill in the backyard. They've caught too much game, so they've just given it to the wolfhounds.
