Chapter Eight: Returning Home

Around noon,

Yan Zhou called, saying there was something at the company. Jing Min said goodbye to Grandpa Chu and left the main garden.

Before leaving, he thought about it and decided to go to the pear orchard.

When Jing Min pushed open the door, Chu Wuyang was painting by the window. The painting on the canvas was already taking shape—a deep blue ocean.

The windows were wide open, and a cool breeze blew in.

There were papers fluttering in the wind, making a rustling sound. Several sheets were scattered on the ground. Jing Min silently walked over, picked up the papers, and placed them on the table.

After a brief silence, he spoke in a low voice:

"I have to leave now because of something at the company. Let's go home together after dinner."

Chu Wuyang knew that when he said "go home," he meant go back to the Jing family. His tone wasn't one of consulting her or asking for her consent; he was simply informing her directly.

"No need to trouble yourself, just have Li Yan drive me back."

I'll come back to pick you up tonight.

Jingmin walked to the window, reached out and closed it, his voice filled with obsession and domineering.

Without hearing a reply from the woman, he had already left the room.

Chu Wuyang gazed out the window; the man's handsome profile was reflected in the car window, his face expressionless.

In today's society, both domestic and international markets revere abstinent male gods as "yyds" (a derogatory term for men who are considered abstinent and unattractive).

These people are usually exceptionally good-looking, have a particularly cold temperament, and possess an extraordinary level of self-discipline that ordinary people can only dream of.

The man sitting next to her now could be described as...

Li Yan was driving in front, and he spoke while we were waiting at the traffic light:

"Mr. Jing, all the servants in the North Building have been dismissed, and the newly hired servants won't be able to start work for another two days. Would you like to transfer two servants from the South Building first?"

Jing Min remained silent after hearing this, and only spoke softly after a while:

"What happened?"

Li Yan had already received instructions last night, so he naturally knew they were asking about what happened last night. He glanced at the two people in the rearview mirror.

The woman casually rested her hand on the back of the chair, gazing lazily out the window in a daze.

The man stared ahead, his jawline taut, his expression cold.

The distance between the couple clearly shows that

They weren't familiar with each other.

Suddenly meeting Jing Min's cold gaze, Li Yan quickly snapped back to reality and focused on driving.

"The housekeeper said that the new maid was not very good at making soup, and she was usually close to the maids in the south building. She came to the north building to ask for advice on how to make soup."

This statement, seemingly a question, is actually an explanation.

The car fell silent again. The air conditioning wasn't on, but Li Yan felt a chill run down his spine from the draft. The car was moving smoothly.

Only a few dozen seconds after he finished speaking,

Li Yan felt that this suffocating atmosphere lasted for a long time.

After a long while, Jing Min finally spoke in a cold, hard voice:

"Give the order that, unless it's something urgent, no one from the South Building is allowed to come over here casually."

"Don't make any personnel changes before the new person arrives; I'll arrange it later."

Without waiting for Li Yan's reply, Jing Min reached out and raised the partition inside the car, blocking the view ahead.

The space is quieter now.

As Chu Wuyang saw Jing Min reach out his hand through the car window, the night view outside, the flashing neon lights, glided across the watch on his wrist, reflecting a dazzling light.

She couldn't help but think of the group photo that was trending on social media.

The hand resting on Lin Yuebai's shoulder was the one wearing this watch.

Yes, a nine-figure luxury watch signifies status and wealth, coupled with his handsome appearance.

It certainly has the qualities to make many women flock to it.

"How long are you going to cover this up?"

Chu Wuyang asked calmly,

In name, he was her closest person, but in reality, they rarely spent time together, and their professional fields were vastly different. Strictly speaking,

They were strangers living under the same roof, their daily interactions consisting mainly of silence.

But she made a decision at the airport: she was going to take another gamble for herself.

Betting on their future,

So she decided to try to break the silence.

Jingmin heard her question and could even see her furrowed brows and vivid expression.

I couldn't help but recall the brief but pleasant time we spent together when we were young and had feelings for each other.

He placed his hand on hers, his large palm enveloping her entire hand. Chu Wuyang tried to pull away twice, but...

But the more she struggled, the tighter the man's grip became, so she simply let him be.

"Wait a little longer. Aunt Lin can't move yet. There were people guarding outside the ward at the time. How she got in is still unknown."

"She was quickly poisoned and rendered mute afterward. She is illiterate, and the person behind this knows this very well. Don't you want to know who the mastermind is and what their motives are?"

After Jing Min finished speaking, he stared at the unmoved profile of the woman beside him and said softly:

"Just let her stay with Grandma, don't let her appear in front of you, trust me, okay?"

The soft glow from the starry sky ceiling inside the car illuminated the twinkling lights in the man's deep eyes.

Chu Wuyang met the man's burning gaze, said nothing, and turned her head to look out the window, refusing to look at him again.

They had been estranged for so long that such private conversations were extremely rare.

He lowered his voice again, adopting a tone of half-negotiation.

"There's a banquet tomorrow night, could you accompany me? Hmm?"

His voice was deep and magnetic. The two had been married for two years, living apart and maintaining a lukewarm relationship.

This is the first time we've ever had such a cramped conversation inside a car.

Chu Wuyang turned her face away and refused:

"I don't want to go, I want to sleep all day tomorrow."

Jingmin hadn't expected her to agree anyway, but considering the unpleasantness of last night, he wanted her to go out for a walk.

Since she felt tired and wanted to sleep, Jing Min's thin lips curved slightly.
