In the instant the car headlights clashed, Jingmin's pupils contracted sharply.
In the passenger seat of the Bentley,
Chu Wuyang leaned against the back of the seat, fast asleep, her cheek pressed against the car window.
Her sleeping face was peaceful and unguarded.
The Maybach slammed on the brakes.
The front wheel screeched as it pressed against the wet, slippery leaves.
Jingmin's knuckles tightened on the steering wheel.
The next second, the car performed a beautiful drift and U-turn, steadily heading up the mountain.
When Wuyang returned to the North Tower
The Maybach was already parked quietly at the entrance, its black body resembling a silent beast in the rainy night.
It stood there, particularly glaring.
She glanced at the car as she got out, and even subconsciously frowned—
How could even the security guard be so careless as to not park the car properly?
The living room was softly lit, with the chandelier casting a warm, white glow.
The air was eerily still.
Chu Wuyang took off her slightly damp coat and draped it over the back of the chair. As soon as she looked up, she saw a tall figure standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.
Jingmin stood with his back to her.
He stood ramrod straight, his suit jacket still on, as if he had never moved, yet his whole body seemed to be covered in a layer of frost.
She stood there, her tone hesitant and guilty.
"...Sorry, something came up and I got back a little late."
Jingmin did not turn around.
Chu Wuyang looked at the Maybach in the yard, which seemed to have just been turned off, and asked hesitantly.
"Did you just get back?"
Clearly, she didn't realize how late it was.
After a long time,
Jing Min slowly turned around, looked at her, his expression indifferent.
The calm voice, however, was so suppressed that it made it inexplicably hard to breathe.
Where's your phone?
Chu Wuyang took out her phone, which had already gone black.
"The battery died... I forgot to charge it. I'm sorry for making you worry."
Her tone softened, and a hint of apology appeared in her eyes as she tried to ease the tension.
But Jingmin's expression did not soften in the slightest.
He took a step closer, raised his hand to brush away the rain-dampened stray hairs from her forehead, and spoke in a tone almost like a soft sigh.
"What happened that took so long?"
"And who brought you back?"
That "who?" landed on my heart like a nail being driven in.
Chu Wuyang hesitated for a moment, but still answered honestly.
“Yang Jinchu… happened to be there too, and he helped me finish the last piece of the mural. Later, it rained and I couldn’t move my car, so he gave me a ride home.”
Jingmin's tone was extremely calm.
"Really? What a coincidence. Did you thank them?"
"Thanks..."
Chu Wuyang tried to explain,
"Don't overthink it, we really just happened to meet."
Jingmin lowered his eyes, his gaze falling on the ground at her feet.
It was like whispering to oneself to convince oneself.
"Nothing happened, why should I overthink it?"
Chu Wuyang was slightly taken aback; his expression clearly indicated that he was "overthinking."
Jingmin turned around.
"It's getting late, I'm going upstairs to take a shower."
Just as Chu Wuyang was about to step forward, he saw his figure sway and gently bump into the railing at the top of the stairs.
"Jingmin?"
"...It's nothing, I'm just a little dizzy from sitting on the plane for so long, don't come any closer."
After he finished speaking, he quickly went upstairs, but his back view revealed an unusual weariness and restraint.
Chu Wuyang stood there, stunned.
Until the maid came out of the kitchen, carrying a plate, and called to her,
"Madam, you're back."
She turned around instinctively.
"You haven't eaten yet, it's so late?"
The maid shook her head and pointed to the dining table.
"The gentleman hadn't eaten yet. He called us as soon as he got off the plane and told us to prepare it."
She looked in the direction the maid was pointing.
The long table was decorated in a way that was both grand and gentle: orange candlelight flickered, and a bouquet of pink and white roses sat in a crystal vase.
The tableware is in her favorite French style.
Every dish was clearly prepared with care by the chef, and an elegant gift box was placed on the corner of the table.
Next to it was a small heart-shaped cake—
The cream roses were delicate and exquisite, and the red chocolates bore the neatly written words: "Happy Fourth Wedding Anniversary."
She stood there, stunned.
In an instant, it felt as if I had been struck by something heavy.
She opened the gift box; inside was a necklace with openwork diamonds and pearls.
It was the limited edition item that she casually mentioned liking and that had long been sold out.
He... remembered, and found it.
This should have been their first wedding anniversary together.
But she missed it.
The food had gone cold, the roses had lost their moisture, and even the beam of light seemed somewhat weak.
The maid put down the last soup and asked in a low voice,
"Madam, should we go upstairs and call the master down?"
Chu Wuyang paused for a moment, then slowly shook her head:
"No need, you all go and rest."
She turned and sat down, looking at the dining table.
My throat tightened when my fingertips touched the necklace.
The bathroom door was quietly pushed open, and as steam rose, water droplets slowly slid down the wall.
Like time frozen in time.
Chu Wuyang stood at the door.
I hesitated for a second before stepping into that misty, watery space.
Jing Min had his back to her, his shoulders were smooth, and water droplets slid down his lean back muscles, revealing their distinct texture.
Quiet as a statue
He stood under the shower with his head down, water streaming down his forehead, quiet to the point of being fragile.
Chu Wuyang remained silent.
She quietly walked over, tiptoed, and gently wrapped her arms around his waist from behind.
Jing Min's body trembled slightly, and his shoulders stiffened for a moment.
Her forehead pressed against his back, the moisture enveloping her soft voice.
"Jingmin, are you angry?"
"No"
"I saw the gift, and I really like it."
