Chapter 236 Zhou Heng had been warned

The atmosphere inside the carriage gradually grew heavy, and silence filled the space between the two.

The light and shadow of the tall buildings outside the window were reflected on the car window, casting a flowing, mottled pattern of light and shadow.

Zhou Heng leaned slightly forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his fingertips lightly tapping together.

His gaze slowly and deliberately fell on Chu Wuyang.

His tone was indifferent, with a hint of deliberate guidance:

Do you remember the invisible tattoo I mentioned to you?

Chu Wuyang frowned slightly and pursed her lips without answering.

"Yours should be a pigeon blood stealth tattoo."

Zhou Heng's tone remained calm, carrying a hint of rational speculation.

"It's very likely that a skin-type tattoo was applied over the original brand, directly covering the original mark."

"Therefore, the tattoo will only temporarily disappear after you drink alcohol, and the real mark will then appear."

Chu Wuyang's fingertips tightened, his eyes turning slightly cold.

"These are just your side of the story."

Zhou Heng smiled softly, but there was no joy in his expression.

He didn't respond to her.

He simply lowered his head and fiddled with the hands of his watch, as if organizing his thoughts, before slowly saying:

"In fact, this only proves one thing—someone is protecting you,"

"And, I don't want anyone to know about the mark on your body."

After he finished speaking, he looked up and stared directly at Chu Wuyang, his gaze carrying a sharp scrutiny.

"I called you here because I want to find out—who this person is."

Hearing this, Chu Wuyang finally looked up and faced him directly, her voice cold:

"You mean, your current predicament is because of me?"

This is ironic; Zhou Heng doesn't reflect on his own inhumane acts, yet he blames others for trying to expose him and kill him.

Zhou Heng looked at her quietly, his eyes showing no sign of guilt.

He did not answer.

Instead, he took out his phone, opened a message, and pushed the screen in front of her.

The screen displayed a text message from an unknown number. The message read:

"Control your curiosity!"

Chu Wuyang frowned, about to speak,

Zhou Heng had already put his phone away, his tone calm yet meaningful:

"Ever since I accidentally saw the brand on your body last time, I've been suspicious,"

"I kept an eye on things and went through some of the records from the 'Royal Shadow' from five years ago."

He paused, then lowered his eyelashes as if in reminiscence, his fingertips slowly tracing the edge of his phone.

"Then, I received this warning message."

Chu Wuyang's fingers tightened slightly as she forced herself to remain calm, her tone still cold:

"so what?"

"Are you saying that all of this is related to me?"

Zhou Heng chuckled softly, his voice low:

"At first, I thought it was just a prank by bored people,"

So I ignored it.

"But as I continued my investigation, the laboratory's secrets were exposed,"

"Immediately afterwards, I was taken in for investigation."

His tone remained calm and unhurried, but his gaze was sharp as a blade, locking directly onto Chu Wuyang:

"The person who wants me dead must have some connection with you."

Upon hearing this, Chu Wuyang finally couldn't help but let out a cold laugh, his voice laced with sarcasm:

"absurd!"

"I didn't even know I had a brand on me,"

"You just tested me, and I haven't lost my memory at all."

Zhou Heng narrowed his eyes slightly, as if pondering the truthfulness of her words, then slowly nodded:

"Yes, that also seems strange to me."

He leaned back in his seat, gently tapped his phone screen, and whispered:

"But that warning clearly appeared because I investigated your mark."

"Moreover, my intention in releasing the news about branding tattoos was to test the waters, but it was quickly suppressed."

"This can't be a coincidence."

Chu Wuyang looked away and stopped talking.

Zhou Heng looked at her quietly, and after a moment, he sighed softly, his voice low and slow:

"Fine, I won't pressure you."

He paused for a moment, then softened his tone.

"Let me ask you another way—last time, after I accidentally saw the brand tattoo on your leg, did you mention it to anyone?"

Chu Wuyang's fingertips tightened almost imperceptibly, but she quickly suppressed the turmoil in her heart, her expression remaining indifferent as ever:

"No!"

A brief silence fell over the carriage, the lights outside the window flickering.

The image reflected on Chu Wuyang's profile was calm and aloof.

Zhou Heng gazed at her intently, his eyes deep, and his voice slowly faded:

"You, think about it again, this is very important to me."

He leaned forward slightly, his gaze earnest.

"If you can remember, or before I die, I'd like to make a deal with you in exchange for a secret,"

Chu Wuyang looked up, her eyes wary.

"What secret?"

Zhou Heng chuckled twice.

"The secret about Lin Yuebai's background,"

Chu Wuyang suddenly looked at him.

"What?"

While Zhou Heng's words cannot be entirely trusted and may even be a deliberate attempt to mystify,

But it completely captured her attention.

Zhou Heng chuckled twice, relaxing his posture somewhat.

He slowly adjusted his cuffs, his gaze never leaving her, his tone carrying a hint of persuasion:

"You're indeed interested in this. Well then, think about it some more."

Seemingly to lower Chu Wuyang's guard, he rephrased his words.

“I found the person who wanted me dead, not for revenge, but to protect myself. I can talk to him in person, tell him I have no ill intentions and will not hurt you, and ask him to stop trying to kill me.”
