Chapter 13 Falling in Love

Jing Min picked up the half-finished glass of wine that Chu Wuyang had just drunk, his eyes unreadable. He reached for a cigarette from Zhuo Qun next to him, got up, walked to where he had answered the phone, and lit a cigarette he didn't usually smoke.

Sitting opposite Jingmin, Rongyu had witnessed the entire scene. He then slowly walked over to Jingmin's side.

"Have you really fallen in love? Didn't you say all that's left is hatred, or is this your alternative way of getting revenge?"

"If I hadn't seen how you acted when you liked someone, I would have almost believed your image of a deeply affectionate person."

"Rong Yu, your cleverness will only get you killed sooner or later." Jing Min's eyes were full of contempt.

Rong Yu looked at Jing Min standing there, so straight and imposing, like a towering mountain, and for a moment, she couldn't quite understand him.

He lowered his head, feeling somewhat stifled, and said angrily:

"I'm not wrong either. You went abroad looking disheveled and almost died. Where is your wife now?"

"I advise you to look back and see who truly cares about you."

Jing Min's expression grew increasingly grim as he saw Zhuo Qun from afar, their expressions already tense and ready to clash.

She quickly walked over, pulled Rong Yu aside, and stopped him from continuing to speak, "Stop talking."

Rong Yu broke free from him and continued, "Have you let go of your hatred? This is my honest advice, brother, for your own good."

After a long pause, Jingmin said softly:

"I can't let go, but so what? I can't control what other people do, and I don't want to."

Jingmin didn't want to admit it, but he had to admit that he wasn't exactly a good person. He would stop at nothing to achieve his goals, whether it was in his career or in his pursuit of marriage.

What he sees as poison that others avoid at all costs is honey that some people flock to.

"Just this once, Rong Yu," Jing Min looked at Rong Yu with sharp, deep eyes, his gaze carrying a warning and oppressive force.

A single warning left the three speechless for a moment. A cool night breeze blew by, bringing with it a series of "thumping" sounds; something was slowly cracking.

When a dandelion encounters the wind, it is its destiny, and also a dissipation, but perhaps it finds joy in it.

To be reborn from the ashes—isn't that destiny?

The wind guides the dandelion's direction, and also determines its mood and future.

Zhou Chen, who had rushed over, whispered something to Jing Min.

Suddenly, the atmosphere around him seemed to freeze, and the cigarette between his fingers fell to the ground.

Under the dim outdoor light, those deep, cold eyes seemed to drip with water.

Without a word, he walked away while the others were still unaware of what was happening.

Rong Yu and Zhuo Qun remained silent for a long time, their expressions complex.

——

Chu Wuyang sat down on a bench on the long corridor of a terrace on the second floor. Her previous words were just an excuse, an excuse to escape. She couldn't fit into Jing Min's circle of friends, nor did she want to. She felt uncomfortable all over.

Gazing at the leaves scattered on the green lawn, blown by the wind, it seemed as if her heart, like the fallen leaves, didn't know where to go, drifting and rustling in the wind.

I really feel sorry for myself. Why am I being so sentimental?

She understood the implication in Rong Yu's words; wasn't she just mocking these facades?

The facade of marital harmony was a facade; how could those around Jingmin not know that they were a couple who were both extremely close and extremely distant?

She's long past the age of openly expressing her emotions; she wouldn't just walk away in a huff regardless of the situation.

The night, tinged with a purplish-black hue by the lamplight, was broken by a distant male voice as Chu Wuyang stared blankly at the empty meadow.

"Yangyang"

Chu Wuyang stood up, turned around and looked at him with some surprise, saying, "What a coincidence? Brother Wenli."

Wen Li smiled gently and said:

"Unfortunately, I knew you'd come over after hearing about Young Master Zhou from Jin Chu,"

"I met Young Master Zhou at a seminar we both attended. I was invited back to China to attend a banquet, and I thought I'd also like to see you. We grew up together. You're not thinking of cutting ties with us, are you? We haven't heard from you for the past two years." Her tone was a mix of concern and reproach.

Chu Wuyang wasn't surprised, after all, Wen Li was also engaged in medicine and had achieved some success in the field, so it wasn't surprising that he knew Zhou Heng.

"No, I'm just too busy preparing my graduation project and thesis."

Wen Li gazed at Chu Wuyang's face, listening to her explanation, which seemed somewhat insincere. His eyes darkened, but his words remained as gentle and warm as ever.

"Yangyang, you've changed a lot. Back then... was there something you couldn't say about what happened back then? You and Jinchu were doing so well, how did things turn out like this?"

Chu Wuyang hesitated for a moment before saying, "There's nothing to hide. Besides, people always change. It's normal to grow and change after experiencing certain things."

She is avoiding the topic.

Wen Li paused slightly, then echoed, "That's true."

Chu Wuyang turned away and stopped speaking, facing the darkness, seemingly struggling to suppress and hold back some emotions.

Seeing this, Wen Li naturally didn't press the matter further and fell silent...

Chu Wuyang turned to look at the open lawn, where the vast lawn was illuminated by ground lights and lampposts.

The light was brighter than where she was.

It was quite lively there, with groups of two or three chatting and laughing.

But wasn't the woman with the exquisite figure wrapped in a red dress who kept glancing up at the second floor of the high building Lin Yuebai?

Chu Wuyang narrowed her eyes, as if she had thought of something.

"Brother Wenli, can people who have donated a kidney drink a lot of alcohol?"

Wenli found her question quite strange.

But I didn't ask any further questions, assuming she was just trying to distract herself from the sensitive topic we had just discussed.

So he answered very seriously:

"Excessive consumption is generally not recommended because the metabolism of large amounts of alcohol requires water, which can lead to kidney ischemia and damage kidney function,"

"This can affect the kidney's metabolic function. For kidney donors, excessive alcohol consumption can further burden the kidneys."

Why are you suddenly asking this?

The fact that Lin Yuebai donated a kidney to Old Master Chu was known only to family members and was not made public.

After all, the health of the head of a large family can directly affect the company's shareholding structure.

It's normal that Wen Li didn't know.

"Nothing, just asking," Chu Wuyang replied casually.

A cool night breeze blew by. Wen Li glanced at Chu Wuyang's suit jacket. He had already seen Jing Min when he arrived; yes, it was his.

His eyes turned slightly cold for a moment. Had their relationship become that good? What about Jin Chu?

"Although I don't know exactly what happened between you two that led you to call off the engagement, it's truly a pity that you and Jin Chu have been together for so many years. Jin Chu... he's in so much pain,"

"I can tell he's still waiting for you,"

"No matter what your purpose in getting married is, it's not for love. Why are you so stubborn? Give yourself and Jin Chu a chance to cut your losses in time."

Upon hearing this, Chu Wuyang immediately turned around and interrupted Wen Li in a very serious manner.

"Brother Wenli, I'm already married."

At that moment, a deep, cold male voice suddenly rang out behind the two of them.
