Chapter 138 Becoming a Dad

Everyone laughed and congratulated Lu Lin: "No wonder you seem like a different person today, it turns out you've become a father."

Hearing this, Lu Lin smiled so broadly that his eyes disappeared, even the fine lines at the corners of his eyes held amusement. As he walked towards his office, he kept muttering, "I'll bring you some more next time."

The soldiers behind him, holding candy, couldn't help but laugh as they watched his light and cheerful figure. This was the first time they had ever seen Lu Lin smile like a flower.

As soon as Lu Wanwan got off work, she grabbed her cloth bag and ran home. The wisps of hair on her forehead were blown by the wind and stuck to her face, but she didn't bother to smooth them down.

As she pushed open the courtyard gate, she heard voices coming from inside the house. Lu Wanwan quickened her pace and rushed into the bedroom as soon as she entered the main room.

When she reached the bedroom door, she stopped and moved quietly, then gently opened the door a crack. Seeing that Gu Mingyue was awake, she tiptoed inside.

"Sister-in-law" Lu Wanwan tossed the cloth bag onto the sofa, rushed to the bedside, and her eyes were instantly drawn to the baby. Her voice softened as she said, "My little nephew, he's so handsome!"

She carefully reached out her finger and touched the baby's soft cheek, then couldn't help but exclaim, "Look at this little nose, it's exactly the same as my brother's, and these double eyelids are even more pronounced than yours. He'll definitely grow up to be a handsome boy."

As she spoke, she reached out to tease the baby's little hand. The little one seemed to sense her voice, and his little fist loosened, gently grasping her fingertips.

Lu Wanwan's heart melted instantly. She leaned closer and whispered to Gu Mingyue, "Sister, he just grabbed my hand. Look how smart he is. He's so young, yet he already knows how to be close to Auntie."

Gu Mingyue patted her hand with a smile: "You rushed back right after get off work, you must be exhausted. Have some water first, then take your time reading."

Zhong Yuxiu: "You touched the child without washing your hands after coming back. Go wash them quickly."

Lu Wanwan smiled shyly, went out to wash her hands before coming back in.

The little one has always been a good eater and sleeper. After drinking milk during the day, he can sleep for three hours straight and rarely cries at night, which saves Gu Mingyue a lot of trouble.

But in the middle of the night, Gu Mingyue was suddenly awakened by a slight noise.

She didn't turn on the light, but looked into the crib by the moonlight. She saw the baby's head tilted to the side, his little mouth pouting, making soft whimpering sounds, and his little arms moving around in the blankets.

Just as she was about to get up, Lu Lin beside her had already lifted the blanket.

He walked barefoot on the ground, not even wearing shoes, afraid that the sound of his shoes scraping the ground would startle the child.

He walked to the crib, bent down, and gently touched the baby's forehead with the back of his hand. There was no sweat, and the temperature was normal.

Then, he carefully lifted the corner of the blanket and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that the baby's diaper was not wet. He reached out and straightened the baby's slightly tilted head, and then gently patted his back with his palm.

After a few pats, the baby's whimpering subsided. The baby snuggled closer to his hand, closed his eyes tightly again, and his little chest rose and fell gently with his breath.

Lu Lin didn't go back to bed immediately. Instead, he half-squatted by the crib and kept watch over the baby, his eyes fixed on him until he was sure the baby was completely asleep. Only then did he tiptoe back to bed.

As he lay down, he didn't forget to tuck the blanket around Gu Mingyue. His fingertips touched her hand, and he whispered, "It's okay, the baby is fast asleep. You can sleep peacefully."

Lu Lin turned and walked towards the living room. As he passed the bedside, he deliberately touched Gu Mingyue's hair and whispered, "You continue to sleep. I'll go make the milk."

When he got to the kitchen, he first turned down the air vent on the coal stove, then took out the warm boiled water from the pot, poured it into the baby bottle, shook it, tested the temperature, and then scooped in the milk powder.

The baby formula had just dissolved when he heard the baby whimpering more urgently from the bedroom. He quickly picked up the bottle and walked back, making sure his steps were even lighter.

"Come on, baby, it's time to nurse."

Lu Lin sat half-sitting on the edge of the crib, carefully picked up the baby, and let him rest in the crook of his arm. As soon as the nipple of the bottle touched the baby's lips, the little guy immediately took it in and started drinking.

Lu Lin supported the baby's bottom with one hand and held the bottle with the other, keeping his eyes on the baby's face. When he saw that the baby was almost finished drinking the milk, he slowly slowed down to prevent the baby from choking.

After finishing the bottle of milk, the baby's tummy swelled up, he let out a small burp, leaned his little head against Lu Lin's chest, and squinted his eyes.

Lu Lin didn't immediately put him back in the crib. Instead, he held him and gently rocked him, patting his back slowly with his other hand. After patting for a while, he carefully put the baby back in the crib and covered him with a thin blanket.

He squatted by the bed for a moment, and seeing that the baby's breathing had become even again and that there was still milk residue on the baby's mouth, he couldn't help but gently wipe it with his fingertip.

When they got back to bed, Gu Mingyue was still awake. She reached out and hugged his arm, saying, "I always make you busy."

Lu Lin smiled and squeezed her hand: "Raising a child is hard work for you, what's a little work at night?"

The next morning, when Gu Mingyue got up, she found that there was no child in the crib and Lu Lin was not by her side. Following the sound, she walked to the living room and saw him sitting on a small stool, holding the baby in his arms and feeding him with a bottle. His movements were as practiced as if he had done it a thousand times.

Gu Mingyue stood at the door, her heart suddenly warmed, and her eyes became a little moist.

Since giving birth, Lu Lin has always been the first to get up when the baby is hungry or needs a diaper change at night, never letting her worry about anything.

During the day, when Zhong Yuxiu and Lu Wanwan were not around, he took care of all the chores, such as changing diapers and putting her to sleep. He even heated up the soup and porridge she drank and brought it to her bedside.

"Awake?" Lu Lin looked up and saw her, immediately smiled, and said softly, "The baby just woke up. I'll feed him some milk first, and then I'll heat up some porridge for you later."

The baby seemed to hear his mother's voice, turned his little head toward Gu Mingyue, and stopped sucking on the bottle.

Gu Mingyue walked over and reached out to straighten Lu Lin's collar, which had been ruffled by the baby. When her fingertips touched the dark circles under his eyes, her voice softened: "You were up so much all night, why didn't you get some more sleep?"

Lu Lin smiled and shook his head: "You haven't slept enough either. I'll get up a little earlier so you can rest some more."

These words warmed Gu Mingyue's heart even more. She squatted down, helped him hold the bottle, and said softly, "With your help, I feel so much more relaxed and not tired at all."

Just as Lu Lin was about to speak, the baby in his arms finished drinking milk and let out a loud burp, which made both of them laugh.

When Zhong Yuxiu returned from buying groceries, she saw Gu Mingyue get out of bed and quickly urged her to go back to lie down.

"You're still in your postpartum period, so you need to be careful in all aspects. If you need anything, want to eat, or want to drink, just call me."

Gu Mingyue smiled and said, "Okay, Mom."

She had been lying in bed for too long and was getting restless. With no books to read and no phone to play with, she was really bored.

However, she knew that her mother-in-law was right; if she didn't rest properly during her postpartum period, she was prone to postpartum illnesses.
