Chapter 153 Buying a House

The dormitory was a six-person room. When Gu Mingyue and Lu Wanwan pushed open the door, two girls were already making their beds.

"Hello, my name is Lin Xiaoyan, and I study foreign languages."

"I am Zhao Mei, and I am from the Department of Economics and Management, just like you."

The two greeted each other warmly, their eyes scanning Lu Lin and his group behind them with curiosity.

Gu Mingyue smiled and replied, "My name is Gu Mingyue, and this is my sister-in-law, Lu Wanwan. She studies Chinese."

She pointed to Lu Lin, who was quickly making the bed, and then looked at Zhong Yuxiu, who was holding Chenchen, "This is my husband Lu Lin, and my mother-in-law."

"Wow." Lin Xiaoyan and Zhao Mei both widened their eyes in surprise and couldn't help but look at Lu Lin and Gu Mingyue.

"Gu Mingyue, you look so young! How come you're already married and have children?"

Chenchen seemed to understand, giggling in Zhong Yuxiu's arms and waving her little hand, instantly closing the distance between them.

Lu Lin made the bed and carefully checked the bed rails. Hearing this, he smiled and said, "We've been married for several years, and our child is over a year old."

Zhong Yuxiu also came over and handed her two roommates a bag of candy that Jing Shi had brought: "From now on, I'll have to trouble you to take care of Mingyue and Wanwan."

After tidying up the dorm, it was already quite late.

After saying goodbye to her roommates, Gu Mingyue and her group headed towards the school cafeteria.

As the first batch of college students after the resumption of the college entrance examination, the school treated them very well, providing not only meals but also cash coupons.

It was the first time Chenchen had seen so many people. Her eyes couldn't take it all in. She looked left and right, excitedly showing her little teeth.

The group looked around and chose their favorite dishes.

Chenchen was held in Lu Lin's arms, her little hands gripping the spoon and shoveling rice into the bowl.

Not long after they finished eating, they took a stroll around the school before Lu Lin and He Xiao headed back to the military camp.

"Don't go out alone with male classmates at school. Whether it's eating or shopping, always go with Wanwan or your roommates."

Lu Lin's tone was serious, but his eyes were filled with worry, "Go back to the dormitory early after class tonight, and don't linger outside."

He Xiao nodded in agreement and looked at Lu Wanwan: "If anyone strikes up a conversation with you or bullies you, call me and your brother immediately, and we'll come right away."

He paused, then added, "If you need money or things, don't be embarrassed to ask. But never borrow money from people you don't know well."

Zhong Yuxiu, standing to the side, laughed and tried to smooth things over: "You two are too nervous. They're all so grown up."

Despite saying that, he also told Gu Mingyue and Lu Wanwan, "Take good care of yourselves, eat on time, and don't stay up late."

Gu Mingyue and Lu Wanwan exchanged a glance, suppressing their laughter as they nodded repeatedly: "We know, we'll be careful."

Lu Lin was still not at ease, so he saved the phone numbers of their dormitory buildings before finally letting out a sigh of relief.

Before leaving, Lu Lin repeatedly told Gu Mingyue, "Don't rush to find a house. I'll find someone to help you. If you find a suitable one, we can discuss it first. If you don't have enough money, I'll figure something out."

Zhong Yuxiu carried Chenchen to the door and then turned to Gu Mingyue and said, "I'll take Chenchen to the guesthouse first, and we'll find a suitable house later. You and Wanwan can focus on your studies."

Gu Mingyue shook her head, her eyes gleaming with calculation: "Mom, let's not rent a house anymore, let's just buy one in Haishi."

She explained, "I think Haishi has a good geographical location and its future development is bound to be good. Buying a house here can not only serve as our place of residence, but also be a safe investment in the future."

Zhong Yuxiu was stunned for a moment, then nodded in agreement: "You're right. It's reassuring to buy it, and it will be convenient for Chenchen to come here to study when he grows up."

Gu Mingyue already had a preliminary plan in mind: once she had settled her studies, she would go house hunting with her mother-in-law.

The person who showed them the houses was Fang Hai, Lu Lin's former comrade-in-arms, who now works at the housing management bureau. Knowing that they wanted to buy a house, he was very enthusiastic and helped them find several properties.

With the savings left over from buying the tailor shop, Gu Mingyue and Zhong Yuxiu, carrying Chenchen, went to look at houses.

They looked around at two or three places, but they were either too small or too out of the way, so neither of them was very satisfied.

When they reached a quiet street in the city center, Fang Hai pushed open a small courtyard gate: "This house is a small courtyard house, a ten-minute walk from your school. It's surrounded by retired teachers from the school, and it's convenient to go to other places."

Gu Mingyue walked in. The room was square and neatly arranged, and there were several rose bushes planted in the small courtyard.

Zhong Yuxiu carried Chenchen around the yard and said with a smile, "This yard is nice. I can build a small swing for Chenchen in the future, and I can also grow some vegetables."

Chenchen clapped her little hands and babbled at the flowers in the yard.

Gu Mingyue touched the wall, asked about the price, and calculated it in her mind.

The price is within budget, the location and apartment layout meet my needs, and as a house in the city center, it definitely has great potential for future appreciation.

She turned to look at Zhong Yuxiu: "Mom, I think this set is pretty good."

Zhong Yuxiu immediately nodded: "I think it's suitable too, let's go with this one."

Fang Hai was surprised by their prompt response and quickly took out the contract.

Gu Mingyue carefully read the terms and conditions, signed them on the spot, and paid the deposit. The moment she held the new key, her new home in Haishi was settled.

As soon as she got the key, Gu Mingyue dragged Zhong Yuxiu to a public phone booth and couldn't wait to dial Lu Lin's number.

"Lu Lin, we found a house! It has four rooms and a small yard, and it's super close to the school." Her voice was full of excitement.

Lu Lin on the other end of the phone laughed instantly: "So fast? Are you satisfied with the location?"

Zhong Yuxiu, leaning over the receiver, added, "The house has good natural light, and Chenchen can play in the yard. The price is also within our budget."

Gu Mingyue continued, "I'd like to do some simple renovations: paint the living room a certain color, put a wardrobe in the bedroom, and build a low fence around the yard. What do you think?"

Lu Lin immediately replied, "I'll do whatever you say. Don't overwork yourself during the renovation. If you need any materials or help, just let me know and I'll come over when I have time."

Early on the weekend morning, Gu Mingyue and Zhong Yuxiu arrived at the new house with cleaning tools, and Lu Wanwan also came to help.

As soon as the gate to the courtyard was opened, Chenchen broke free from her grandmother's hand and started running around in the open space, her little feet kicking up dust.

"Wanwan, you're in charge of wiping the windows and tables, I'll sweep and mop the floor, Mom, you just watch Chenchen."

After assigning tasks, Gu Mingyue picked up a broom and began sweeping the yard.

Zhong Yuxiu first gathered the old items in the corner together, muttering, "If we tidy up this yard properly and plant some tomatoes and cucumbers, Chenchen can eat fresh vegetables."

After a busy morning, the new house gradually revealed its clean and tidy appearance.

After settling on her new home in Haishi, Gu Mingyue took advantage of the weekend to move all her belongings from her dormitory to the small courtyard.

While packing her luggage, her roommates Lin Xiaoyan and Zhao Mei helped her the whole time, their faces full of reluctance: "The dormitory won't be as lively without you."

Gu Mingyue smiled and patted their shoulders: "Don't be sad, I'm still in school. We can meet up for meals and shopping after class and on weekends."

She took out several wallets she had made herself from her bag and distributed them to her roommates, saying, "These are wallets I made for you as a keepsake."
