Chapter 23 The Culprit

"Are you alright? Were you frightened? Drink some soup to calm your nerves."

As Gu Mingyue spoke, she poured out the chicken soup, "This was specially made for you by Aunt Liu. It smells delicious. Drink more while it's hot."

Aunt Liu's cooking skills are, of course, excellent.

What Gu Mingyue didn't mention was that she had secretly added spiritual spring water to the soup.

With the spiritual spring water and Elder Xue's medical skills working together, Lu Lin should be able to stand up again in no time.

Smelling the fragrance in the air, Lu Lin knew that this matter couldn't be rushed; the most important thing right now was to heal his injuries.

He drank the chicken soup while Lu Wanwan checked the ward to make sure there was nothing Zhu Xiaoqing had brought before she felt relieved.

"Brother, don't associate with that bad woman anymore. When you were injured, she avoided you. Now that you're better, she's come knocking on your door. Who knows what she's up to?"

Lu Lin paused. The Lu family had publicly stated that he was hospitalized for recuperation, but they had not told anyone the specific hospital; only his family knew.

Where did Zhu Xiaoqing get the news that he was here?

His eyes narrowed slightly, as if he had discovered something extraordinary.

After finishing their meal, Gu Mingyue and Lu Wanwan made plans to go shopping, so they didn't stay any longer.

Lu Lin was worried that Gu Mingyue wouldn't have enough money, so he handed her all the money he had on him. Although it wasn't much, it was enough for her to go shopping once.

"Wow, big brother, you're so generous, can you try being a little sister?"

Looking at the colorful banknotes in Gu Mingyue's hand, Lu Wanwan expressed her envy.

Her older brother is usually frugal and only gives her a large red envelope during the Lunar New Year. Although the amount is not small, it only happens once a year.

Lu Wanwan said, "Who would complain about having too much money?"

Lu Lin glanced at her and said, "You haven't paid back the pocket money you 'borrowed' from me last time, have you? You want money back so soon."

His tone emphasized the word "borrow," which made Lu Wanwan feel uneasy.

From childhood to adulthood, she has taken money from her older brother under the guise of borrowing money countless times, but she has never paid it back.

Lu Wanwan laughed awkwardly, "It's too formal for us siblings to be calculating money."

Before Lu Lin could react, she grabbed Gu Mingyue's hand and started to run.

"Big brother, we're leaving now. You get some rest and don't let that bad woman bother you."

The door clicked shut, and Lu Lin couldn't help but chuckle. This girl was really something; she'd always been like this since she was little. When had she ever asked him for money? Why did she act so guilty and like a ghost whenever the topic came up?

Thinking of Zhu Xiaoqing, Lu Lin regained his composure and decided to tell Li Ming about it when he came to visit, so that he could have someone investigate.

Li Ming and Zhu Xiaoqing had grown up together since childhood. Although he didn't believe Zhu Xiaoqing had the guts, Lu Lin's words weren't without reason.

Zhu Xiaoqing may not have the guts, but that doesn't mean the Zhu family wouldn't.

No wonder they've been making underhanded moves lately; it turns out it's because of this.

It's likely that some of their people were among those who took Mr. Xue away at the train station.

Li Ming acted swiftly, and after receiving the message, he led his men to investigate immediately.

When Lu Lin was discharged from the hospital and returned home to recuperate, he brought the latest news.

"The Zhu family was indeed behind this."

Their men arrested several people who worked for the Zhu family. When the other party realized they were serious, they confessed that the culprit was Zhu's father.

If you walk by the river often enough, you're bound to get your shoes wet.

Zhu's father did more than just this one thing, and the people who did things for him weren't fools. They secretly kept evidence in case Zhu's father killed them, and used it to threaten him. Unexpectedly, it came in handy at this time.

A letter of denunciation was sent to higher authorities, and soon the Zhu family was taken away for investigation; no one was spared.

The residents of the family compound thought that something big was about to happen, and everyone was filled with anxiety.

Only the Lu family knew what had happened, and they lived their lives calmly.

Everyone was astonished when the results came out.

All the things the Zhu family had done were exposed to the public, and everyone was outraged when they found out. They never expected that Zhu's father, who usually seemed honest and kind, would be such a despicable person.

The entire Zhu family was implicated and sent to remote areas for reform through labor.

Zhu Xiaoqing was naturally among them.

On the day she was taken away, she looked completely bewildered, not knowing what had happened.

Even sitting in the interrogation room and hearing the person opposite her list her father's misdeeds, she still couldn't believe it.

Her lips trembled; she wanted to retort, but didn't know where to begin.

Did she really not know what her father had done?

Actually, that's not the case.

Living in such an environment, no one is a fool, and she had also sensed that something was wrong.

However, considering her blood ties and privileged living environment, she did not expose or report the crime. Instead, she comfortably enjoyed the benefits she gained by stepping on the blood of others.

After the Zhu family fell from power, Zhu Xiaohong dared not walk in front of the family compound anymore.

Once, when Gu Mingyue and Lu Wanwan were shopping, they ran into her. She acted like a rat crossing the street, and when she saw them, she tucked her tail between her legs and scurried away.

Lu Wanwan felt very relieved. "Last time she acted like a boss in front of us, but this time she seemed like a completely different person."

Gu Mingyue chuckled lightly, "You've really become a different person."

Zhu Xiaohong's family background was not as outstanding as Zhu Xiaoqing's; her parents were just ordinary workers.

Zhu Xiaohong followed Zhu Xiaoqing around every day, just so she could get to know more of the children of high-ranking officials and rise in status.

It's often said that people strive for higher positions and water flows downhill, so her thinking is understandable.

However, an individual's character determines their perspective, and with her previous attitude, she was destined not to go very far.

After Zhu Xiaoqing's family got into trouble, she didn't even bother to visit them; she immediately distanced herself from them, fearing that her own family would be implicated.

He threw away everything he had bought with Zhu Xiaoqing to avoid giving others cause for gossip.

Before Zhu Xiaoqing got into trouble, she followed behind and got a lot of things too.

Those things were all good, and expensive. It's amazing she made such a tough decision.

The Lu family was overjoyed that the Zhu family, this malignant tumor, had been removed.

When Old Xue got into trouble, his family was terrified. After they found out that the Zhu family was behind it all, they also helped to stir things up.

What the Zhu family did was real; they didn't intentionally fabricate false information. They simply provided some clues to their superiors when the other party was being investigated.

Lu Lin's injuries are also healing day by day.

When the elders from the family compound and Lu's relatives came to visit him, they were all overjoyed to learn that his leg was getting better.

If we're talking about the most promising younger generation in the family compound, it has to be Lu Lin.

This child is upright and honest, a rare talent for leadership.

When Lu Lin was injured, everyone felt sorry for him.

Now, the hardships have finally come to an end, and everything is moving in a positive direction.

Seeing Lu Lin and Gu Mingyue chatting and laughing on the sofa, the elders joked that they would soon be drinking wedding wine.
