Chapter 45 Rest and Recover

Xia Huiying almost ran over, carefully lifting Gu Mingyue's arm with both hands, her movements as gentle as if she were touching a fragile piece of porcelain.

On the way to the car, I inevitably got a little wet, and the edges of the gauze curled up slightly.

She couldn't help but smooth it with her fingertips, but then immediately waved her hand, as if afraid of hurting herself.

"How did this happen? Does it hurt? When did this happen?" A series of questions came out urgently, with a noticeable tremor in the voice.

Lu Limin walked a little slower, but he stood to the side when she spoke, his brows furrowed into a deep frown.

"Lu Lin! How did you take care of Yueyue?!"

Look at that big bandage on his arm; the wound must be quite large.

Gu Mingyue quickly stepped forward to stand between Lin and his grandfather, saying, "Grandpa's mistake wasn't his fault." As he spoke, he explained the whole story.

From being robbed at the beginning to meeting Lu Lin at the hospital later.

When Xia Huiying learned that she had been robbed on her way to a state-run restaurant, her heart was in her throat.

"Who would dare to be so bold in broad daylight!"

"He's a hoodlum who came from out of town."

Lu Lin had already sent people to inquire, and they learned that the other party had fled from another province and was the person on the wanted list.

He only started keeping an eye on them after he happened to see Qin Xiangping giving money to Mingyue.

Lu Limin's brows relaxed slightly, but the heartache in his eyes remained.

"Why didn't you call home immediately after something like this happened?"

Although their old bones couldn't help much, they knew to make phone calls to call for backup.

Lu Lin said in a low voice, "The situation was a bit chaotic at the time, and Yueyue didn't want you to worry."

Xia Huiying sighed with heartache, took Gu Mingyue's hand, and pressed her down on the sofa, "Sit still, this wound needs to be healed properly."

She turned around and called to the kitchen, "Aunt Liu, could you please make some light soup? Yueyue needs to eat something that a patient can eat now."

From the kitchen came Aunt Liu's cheerful reply, "Okay, I'll go and start simmering the chicken soup and cook some noodles."

Xia Huiying continued to instruct, "Don't go out for the next two days. Rest well at home. If you need anything, ask Lu Lin to get it for you. You took care of her before, now it's his turn to take care of you."

After she finished speaking, she gave Lu Lin a wink. Lu Lin didn't say anything, but just nodded, acknowledging the arrangement.

In the evening, Lu Wanwan, Lu Qinming, and Zhong Yuxiu returned home. After hearing about Gu Mingyue's injury, they all surrounded her, asking about her well-being and comforting her for a while.

That evening, Gu Mingyue was preparing to take a shower when Lu Lin knocked on her door and asked, "How are you going to wash your hands? Do you need help?"

Gu Mingyue's cheeks flushed, and she slammed the door shut, feeling both embarrassed and angry. "I can wash myself!"

The next morning, Qin Xiangping brought her daughter to express her gratitude, carrying a basket of eggs, malted milk powder, and various snacks.

The mother and daughter thanked her repeatedly.

Thanks to Gu Mingyue's daughter, she was safe and sound. Qin Xiangping didn't dare to think about what she and her husband would do if something had happened to her daughter.

Not long after, Lu Lin returned from outside, holding a document with a red stamp on it.

The robbers have been sentenced and exiled to the Northwest for land reclamation.

He handed the paper to Gu Mingyue, saying, "Don't worry, people like that won't appear again."

Gu Mingyue took the paper, looked at the few lines of text, and suddenly felt at ease.

Because of the wound on her arm, Gu Mingyue rested at home for a few days, during which time she was always by Gu Mingyue's side taking care of her.

Lu Lin sat on the bench and gently massaged her shoulders with just the right amount of pressure. "Does this feel good?"

Gu Mingyue hummed in agreement, feeling a warmth in her heart as if she were enveloped in sunshine, but deliberately nitpicked, "It's alright, but the technique is a bit clumsy."

Lu Lin chuckled softly, but his hands became even more focused. "Then I'll practice more, and I guarantee I'll make you feel so comfortable next time that you'll want to sleep."

Gu Mingyue began living the carefree, laid-back life she had always wanted.

If she was thirsty, he would bring her warm water and carefully place the cup next to her uninjured hand.

When he was hungry, he would go to the kitchen and bring out the hot soup and rice that Aunt Liu had made, and he would also remember to serve her some food.

Even when she was drawing, he would sit quietly beside her and read a book.

It was good, but after a few days of feeding her, Gu Mingyue felt that she had gained a lot of weight around her waist.

That day, Lu Lin brought a bag of things back from outside.

When Gu Mingyue came out, she glanced outside; it was just dawn.

"What are you doing up so early?"

She yawned and sat on the sofa, still a little sleepy.

If it weren't for that nightmare, she could have slept until late morning.

"I went and bought some pig's trotters to help you recover."

Gu Mingyue exclaimed "Ah!" and pinched the flesh on her face, feeling that she didn't need any more filling.

Lu Lin glanced at her, a smile in his eyes, "Replenishing blood isn't about nourishing your face, your brain..."

"What's wrong with my brain?" Gu Mingyue glared at him immediately.

"She's very smart, just a little silly sometimes," he said slowly, deliberately reaching out to ruffle her hair.

Gu Mingyue's cheeks flushed from his words, and she pushed him away, saying, "You're the stupid one!"

Lu Lin took her hand and held it firmly, whispering, "It's okay if you're a little slow, I'll take care of you."

The sudden cheesy pickup line made Gu Mingyue's ears burn. She was both embarrassed and angry, and pushed Lu Lin away, saying, "Why are you suddenly so close? I haven't even brushed my teeth this morning."

"It smells good even without brushing your teeth."

After Lu Lin finished speaking, he was stunned for a moment, and then his ears turned slightly red.

Gu Mingyue was stunned for two seconds, and then her cheeks flushed instantly. "What nonsense are you talking about!"

She raised her hand to push him away, but he grabbed her wrist with a light touch, making it impossible for her to break free.

“I mean…” Lu Lin lowered his voice, his eyes serious yet with a hint of mischief, “You’re good-looking no matter what.”

Gu Mingyue felt flustered under his gaze and quickly looked away, pretending to straighten her clothes, saying, "You're so glib."

But the smile that she couldn't help but let slip was impossible to hide.

Xia Huiying, who had just reached the stairs, saw the two being affectionate and quickly turned back, also calling the old man who was about to leave back with her.

Seeing that he was walking downstairs without noticing, fearing that something bad might happen, she grabbed his arm and whispered, "Come on, let's go back first, don't disturb the children."

Lu Limin was pulled so hard that he stumbled and before he could react, he was pulled back into the room.

"What's wrong?"

Lu Limin was completely confused and didn't know what was going on.

"Didn't you see?" Xia Huiying lowered her voice, a sly smile flashing in her eyes. "Our grandson has finally figured it out."

Good news is sure to come from our family soon.

Thinking of this, Xia Huiying's back no longer felt tired, her legs no longer hurt, and she walked with great energy.

Inside the room, the faint sound of their laughter could be heard. Xia Huiying and Lu Limin exchanged a glance and couldn't help but laugh.
