Chapter 9 is quite good at bluffing.

The three of them then tried on clothes at various counters, and Xia Huiying bought them all as long as they suited Gu Mingyue.

As she got older, her physical strength couldn't keep up, so Xia Huiying found a stool to sit down and rest.

"I'll wait here. You can go and browse around some more. Grandma will give you her wallet. Buy whatever you like!"

The old lady readily handed the wallet to Gu Mingyue, instructing her granddaughter to spend the money inside and not to let her granddaughter-in-law spend it.

"I guarantee I'll complete the mission!" Lu Wanwan brought her own pocket money with her when she came out, intending to secretly buy her sister-in-law a gift as a token of her gratitude.

The two continued to wander around when Lu Wanwan suddenly clutched her stomach, crying out, "Ouch!"

Gu Mingyue looked at her anxiously, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"Sister-in-law, my stomach hurts a little and I need to go to the toilet. Can you wait for me up ahead for a while?"

There are three urgent needs in life, and this matter cannot be delayed.

Gu Mingyue quickly replied, "Okay, go ahead, I'll wait for you there."

After Lu Wanwan left, Gu Mingyue paced back and forth at the agreed-upon location.

Suddenly, she noticed a red dress in the corner of the counter, her eyes lit up, and she said to the sales clerk, "Excuse me, could you let me take a look at that dress?"

The sales clerk, with her signature smile, said, "Of course, I'll get it for you right away."

The service at the department store was impeccable. When Gu Mingyue entered, she saw that every salesperson had a smile on their face, unlike the employees of the supply and marketing cooperative who looked down on everyone.

No wonder so many people come to join in the fun; the excellent service alone is enough to keep a large portion of the customers.

The sales clerk placed the dress on the counter so that Gu Mingyue could easily observe it.

"This dress is a fresh import from the south. It's the only one available, but because it's a bit too bright, it's just sitting in the corner."

Gu Mingyue nodded in understanding, her fingers gently caressing the fabric beneath her. It was a comfortable and breathable fine gauze fabric, perfect for wearing.

The dress is fitted at the waist, which nicely accentuates the figure, while the floral embellishments at the waist subtly conceal its allure.

Overall, it's eye-catching but not blatant.

Gu Mingyue liked it very much and was ready to ask to buy the dress.

"I want this dress."

A voice interrupted from the side. Looking in the direction of the voice, a woman wearing a dress and with braids pointed at the clothes in her hand.

Gu Mingyue held up the dress in her hand and asked again to confirm, "Are you talking about the one I'm holding?"

The other person raised their chin and said, "This is the one I like. You can have it. You don't necessarily have to be able to afford it anyway."

She didn't lower her voice for the last sentence; every word clearly reached Gu Mingyue's ears.

She raised an eyebrow; it seemed this person was coming for her.

With a slight smile, she said, "I'm sorry, ma'am, everything is about first come, first served. I liked this dress first, so please go and look around elsewhere."

The moment she called out "Big Sister," the other person instantly flew into a rage.

The other person glared angrily, pointing a finger at Gu Mingyue's nose and yelling, "Who are you calling 'big sister'? I'm only nineteen this year, I don't look like a big sister at all!"

A sharp sound rang out, and Gu Mingyue's eardrums vibrated. She rubbed her ears.

Why are you being so fierce?

"You're only nineteen? I can't believe it. Looking at your clothes, I would have guessed you were twenty-nine."

Gu Mingyue feigned surprise, her eyes scanning the woman intently.

The woman was wearing a dress, but the color didn't suit her. Her skin was slightly dark, her hair was yellowish, and the ends were dry and frizzy. If it weren't for the dress she was wearing, people would think she had just fled from a famine.

The contrast is even more striking when the two stand together.

The way she called me "elder sister" wasn't unjustified.

Zhu Xiaohong angrily stomped her foot, ready to argue with Gu Mingyue.

Gu Mingyue snorted coldly. She wasn't someone to be bullied. Let her try if she dared.

"Xiaohong, be mindful of your appearance when you're out in public."

Hearing her cousin's words, Zhu Xiaohong was indignant. "Cousin, she bullied me."

While the two were arguing, Zhu Xiaoqing was quietly observing Gu Mingyue, and realized that this was what she looked like.

She's good-looking, but unfortunately has a bad temper; she's not a good match for that person at all.

Lowering his eyelids, he noticed the whitening of her clothes and felt a glimmer of hope. It seemed the Lu family didn't treat her very well either.

I wouldn't feel ashamed to let my future daughter-in-law go out wearing clothes like this.

If Gu Mingyue knew what she was thinking, she would definitely go crazy. If there were suitable clothes, she would never wear what she was wearing.

In the Lu family, only Lu Wanwan is the same age as her, but Gu Mingyue can't fit into her clothes.

It's not unusual for her to not have suitable clothes to change into since she's just arrived in Beijing.

Zhu Xiaoqing ignored Gu Mingyue and looked straight at the sales clerk: "Comrade, you haven't paid for this dress yet, right? We'll take it."

The sales clerk hesitated, then pointed to Gu Mingyue and said, "This lady was the one who first took a liking to it. We have many other clothes in our counter, all of which are very nice. You can take a look and see if there's anything you like."

Zhu Xiaoqing got the answer she wanted, took out her wallet, and said, "Since no one has paid, everyone has the opportunity to buy."

Salesperson: "This..."

Her attitude wavered, and it was obvious to anyone with eyes that Gu Mingyue was more suited to the dress on the counter.

The sales clerk's task is to successfully sell the goods; this is the first lesson her supervisor taught her when she started work.

"Sister-in-law, I'm back!"

Having resolved this major life event, Lu Wanwan returned in a good mood. Before she even got close, she noticed two men standing menacingly opposite her sister-in-law.

Her protective instincts kicked in immediately.

Ever since the makeover was completed, Lu Wanwan has admired her sister-in-law to the point of worship and is very willing to be her sister-in-law's little dog... no, little follower!

She'll be the first to object if anyone tries to bully her!

Lu Wanwan ran over like the wind and stood in front of Gu Mingyue.

"Who dares to bully my sister-in-law!"

Lu Wanwan was stunned for a moment when she saw the two people in front of her. "Zhu Xiaoqing, Zhu Xiaohong, are you two the ones who bullied my sister-in-law?"

She rolled up her sleeves, looking like she was about to take action.

Zhu Xiaoqing glanced at Gu Mingyue behind her, then looked at her cousin beside her with a gloomy expression.

"Cousin, doesn't that mean she's Lu Lin's fiancée?"

Zhu Xiaoqing glanced at her indifferently, and Zhu Xiaohong, knowing better than to speak, pursed her lips tightly.

At home, she was the youngest and the least valued. She was always the one being scolded by her older cousin, so she'd better behave herself.

"You guys have good taste. What do you think? My sister-in-law is beautiful, isn't she? She's a hundred times better than someone else. Even my brother likes her a lot."

Gu Mingyue glanced at her secretly. How could she not know that Lu Lin liked her? She was quite good at bluffing.

However, Gu Mingyue was happy to hear this, as it meant that Lu Wanwan had accepted her from the bottom of her heart, which was a good thing for her.
