Chapter 48 Marriage

After deciding to get married, the atmosphere at home suddenly became lively.

Xia Huiying was full of energy every day, sometimes dragging Gu Mingyue to the department store to pick out fabrics for their wedding dress, and other times going to buy wedding candy.

Zhong Yuxiu also put down what she was doing and consulted with her mother-in-law.

"This bright red one looks good and makes you look even fairer."

As Xia Huiying held up the fabric, she smiled and said, "We need to choose one that is both auspicious and pleasing to the eye."

Lu Wanwan joined in the fun, and upon hearing her grandmother's words, she said, "My sister-in-law is naturally beautiful; she looks good in anything."

That's true.

Xia Huiying wholeheartedly agreed with her granddaughter's words.

Having lived for so many years, she has seen quite a few people with excellent looks, and Gu Mingyue could easily be ranked among the top few of them.

The young girl had fair skin like snow and bright, elegant features. Standing next to her grandson, the two looked incredibly well-matched; even the ladies in magazines weren't as beautiful as her.

Xia Huiying never thought that being beautiful was a bad thing.

She often says, "Being good-looking is a gift from God, but living beautifully is a skill you earn yourself."

In her eyes, a woman's beauty is not a tool to please others, but an inherent source of confidence.

The women in the family were in charge of purchasing, while the men were in charge of moving and organizing.

Lu Lin also told his good friends about his upcoming marriage. Xing Yi and He Binglin were both happy for him and said they would definitely make time to attend the wedding.

Even though the situation is unclear, Lu Lin wants to do everything he can to give Gu Mingyue a grand wedding.

Xia Huiying had someone specifically consult a fortune teller and set the wedding date for half a month later, a time that was neither too rushed nor too late.

After completing the remaining orders, Gu Mingyue temporarily stopped working at the tailor shop.

Several close friends, knowing that she and Lu Lin were getting married, took advantage of their spare time from work to help with the preparations.

Grandma Wu took out the wedding cloth from the bottom of the tailor shop's trunk and gave it to Gu Mingyue.

"This is fabric that my father brought from another place many years ago. It's very good. I haven't been willing to use it all these years. Please don't mind it. Take it back and see if there's anything you can use it for."

Gu Mingyue carefully felt the fabric with her fingers. Anyone with a discerning eye could tell that the fabric was expensive, and she felt it was too valuable to accept.

“Take it. I don’t have anything good to give you. If it weren’t for you bringing life to my little tailor shop, I’d probably be starving to death on the street by now.”

Grandma Wu's words were sincere, and Gu Mingyue couldn't persuade her subordinates.

"Then Lu Lin and I thank Grandma Wu."

Grandma Wu immediately beamed with joy, "That's more like it!"

With everyone's efforts, the Lu family gradually transformed, appearing as a festive red sight from afar.

The grandparents in the compound all knew that Lu Lin was getting married, and they all came to congratulate him.

"Xiao Lin has finally married his wife." Grandpa Wang smiled from ear to ear. "From now on, you must treat Mingyue well and not bully her."

Grandma Zhao held Gu Mingyue's hand and looked her up and down. "Our Mingyue is beautiful and skillful. Xiao Lin is so lucky."

Grandma Zhang came over and said mysteriously, "This young couple is very close. A couple of days ago, Mingyue injured her arm, and Xiaolin was so worried about her, running around taking care of her, afraid that Mingyue would get tired."

Gu Mingyue blushed at the comment and smiled with her head down.

Lu Lin casually put his arm around her shoulder and replied with a smile, "Of course, my wife is one in a million."

The elders laughed even harder.

After the marriage was arranged, Lu Lin even went to great lengths to send Yu Huailin an invitation.

Looking at Xi Hong's invitation, Yu Huailin couldn't help but laugh and say, "How old is this person? Why is he still acting like a child?"

"Huailin, who sent this?"

Yu Zhongqing looked at the invitation in his grandson's hand, puzzled.

He thought about it carefully and realized that no one around him was getting married, and he hadn't heard of any weddings in the compound.

Yu Huailin opened the invitation in his hand and placed it in front of his grandfather. "It's an invitation to Comrade Gu's wedding."

"Comrade Gu, which Comrade Gu?"

Yu Huailin said with a smile, "Grandpa, you don't know any other Comrade Gu, do you? There's only one."

Yu Zhongqing then realized that Gu Mingyue was getting married. He slapped his thigh in regret and pointed at his grandson with exasperation, saying, "Look at such a good girl, letting someone else marry her. What are you going to do if you stay single forever?"

Yu Huailin said helplessly, "These things depend on fate. Even if I'm willing, Comrade Gu might not be. When we went to the Lu family last time, didn't she say that she and Lu Lin were dating? If you keep making such unreasonable demands, I'll get angry."

Yu Zhongqing was just grumbling, but when he heard his grandson say that, he got even more excited.

"You little brat, you dare to get angry? I'm not even angry."

Yu Huailin didn't argue with him and left with the invitation on his own.

"Stop right there, where are you going?"

Before he even stepped out of the gate, Yu Zhongqing called him back.

Yu Huailin turned around and looked at him innocently, and said, "Of course I'm going to work."

Yu Zhongqing pointed to the invitation in his hand and said, "Bring it to me quickly."

Yu Huailin smiled and, without arguing with the old man, obediently handed over the things.

Yu Zhongqing looked through the words on the invitation and felt more and more heartbroken. What a wonderful girl, it was truly a beautiful flower stuck in cow dung.

Although Yu Zhongqing did not know Lu Lin, he knew Lu Limin. The old man was a troublemaker when he was young, and his grandson must have the same temper.

When I went to the Lu family that day, he sat next to Comrade Gu with a cold face. Anyone who didn't know better would think that he owed him a lot of money.

-

The wedding day arrived quickly.

According to local custom, a woman's journey to get married begins from her parents' home.

However, Gu Mingyue had no relatives in Beijing, so after discussion, they decided to move from the Lu family's old house to Lu Lin's new house.

The dilapidated house was completely transformed after a thorough renovation.

All the old tiles were removed, new windows were installed and cleaned until they were bright and clean, and the weeds in the yard were pulled out and replaced with new flowers.

Everything looked vibrant and full of life.

The courtyard was decorated with lanterns and colorful decorations, and bright red "double happiness" characters were pasted all over the doors and windows.

The air was filled with the sweet smell of candy and the sound of firecrackers, as lively as during the Chinese New Year.

Gu Mingyue sat on the edge of the bed, wearing a red wedding dress she had sewn herself.

Her hands trembled slightly, a mixture of nervousness and anticipation.

A flurry of footsteps approached from outside, followed by Lu Lin's voice.

"Honey, are you ready? I'm coming to take you home!"

Lu Wanwan and Song Miaoyu, along with a few friends, blocked the doorway, demanding red envelopes. "No red envelopes, no opening the door!"

Lu Lin smiled and pulled out a handful of wedding candies and red envelopes from his pocket, saying, "Go easy on me."

The door finally opened, and Lu Lin immediately saw Gu Mingyue sitting on the edge of the bed.

Gu Mingyue wore a bright red wedding dress that she had sewn herself, with simple peonies embroidered on the cuffs and hem.

Her face appeared exceptionally fair in the sunlight, her eyebrows and eyes were gentle, and a shy smile played on her lips.

Lu Lin was stunned, as if he had been nailed to the spot.
