Chapter Fourteen: Obtaining the Organizer's Weapon
“Miss Su, if you want to understand the current situation in the world, why don’t you ask General Huo?” Old Man Bai suggested.
"General Huo?" Hensheng asked, puzzled.
Old Bai looked at Su Zhenzhen and said, "On the day the grave was dug up, it was because Miss Su summoned General Huo's ghost that those people were scared away, which allowed me to escape."
Hearing this, Hensheng was very excited. "May I meet General Huo? I would like to thank him in person."
“No way.” Su Zhenzhen rolled her eyes at him. “General Huo carries the merits of countless people and has suffered a great injustice. If it weren’t for his good intentions, he would probably have become a demon long ago. My current soul power is insufficient to summon him.”
Hensheng was clearly disappointed, but he quickly regained his composure. "Miss Su, may I become your apprentice? You always drag me away when I try to escape. I want to run away on my own too."
That's a good idea, but Su Zhenzhen herself is only a beginner and can't teach Hensheng anything.
At that moment, a "ding" sound came from my mind.
It turns out that, in response to the barrage of complaints from viewers during the live stream, the organizers granted Su Zhenzhen a weapon slot.
Su Zhenzhen took out a submachine gun, which was thoughtfully equipped with bullets.
"What is this?" Hensheng asked curiously.
As Su Zhenzhen loaded the gun, she replied, "A submachine gun, unlike the guns here, can fire at long range."
"Thud—"
The moment the ring was pulled, a bullet flew out like an arrow.
Hensheng heard a "whoosh" sound, and then it seemed like something exploded in the air.
Su Zhenzhen shook her arm as she drew the gun. It was her first time firing a gun, and the recoil from this thing was quite strong.
"Here, you give it a try."
Su Zhenzhen handed the gun to Hensheng and taught him how to use it.
After explaining, Su Zhenzhen asked Hensheng to try firing a shot himself.
Hensheng was both nervous and excited. The moment his index finger pulled the trigger, a bead of sweat rolled down his forehead.
"Bang--"
The bullet exploded in the air, but Hensheng felt no pain in his arm; all he felt was the joy of having the ability to protect himself.
That's great, now he can help if we encounter danger again.
"This submachine gun is for charging, but we probably won't need it. If we encounter pursuers again, we can just use it to spray bullets." Su Zhenzhen took the submachine gun back from Hensheng. "Ammunition is limited, so I can't let you practice your accuracy. Just know how to use it."
Putting away the submachine gun, Su Zhenzhen took out a flashlight to illuminate the area and then took out some dry rations from the storage compartment.
"You two hurry up and eat to replenish your energy, then think about whether to rest here for the night or continue your journey through the night. How long will it take us to reach the capital?"
Old Bai took the dry rations, and after severing ties with Hensheng, he said, "If we had horses, we could arrive in a month if we rode day and night at full speed."
Su Zhenzhen shook her head. "We don't know how to ride horses, and it looks like we'll have to walk for at least three months. Let's see where we can replenish our food supplies first. The dry rations you brought won't last long."
Without a word, Old Man Bai and Hensheng quickly finished their food.
Old Man Bai spoke first, "Miss Su, we've been traveling all day. Why don't we rest here for a bit? We still have a long way to go to the next town."
Su Zhenzhen had no objection, after all, she could work without sleep, but Old Man Bai and Hensheng were still just mortals.
And so the three of them sat down on the ground beside the official road.
Su Zhenzhen took out a quilt from her luggage from the storage compartment. After the two of them fell asleep, she covered the light of her flashlight and pressed it against Hensheng, absorbing the continuous golden light of merit emanating from him.
That's right, it's the golden light of merit.
After Hensheng's identity was revealed, Su Zhenzhen discovered that all the mysterious power he originally possessed had surfaced, converging into a soaring golden light of merit.
This kind of situation usually only happens to purely kind and philanthropic people. How can someone who hates others do good deeds if he never leaves his home?
This can only mean that his parents were charitable and saved tens of millions of people throughout their lives, which is why he was blessed with such good fortune from birth.
But that doesn't make sense. If his parents brought blessings to tens of thousands of people, how did the previous dynasty fall?
Su Zhenzhen couldn't figure it out, so she simply stopped thinking about it. Interfering too much in other people's karma would ruin her own fortune.
As dawn broke, Old Man Bai woke up, while Hen Sheng was still asleep.
Old Man Bai wanted to wake him up, but Su Zhenzhen stopped him.
The old man lowered his voice, "Miss Su, would you like to take a nap?"
Su Zhenzhen had already put the flashlight away. "No need, I'm not sleepy yet."
Su Zhenzhen really didn't want to sleep on the floor, but her body could handle it anyway.
By the time Hensheng woke up naturally, the sun had already risen.
After a quick breakfast, the father and son set off for the next town with Su Zhenzhen.
It was already dark when they arrived at Liuyun Town. Su Zhenzhen found an inn and paid ten taels of silver for a room.
It wasn't that Su Zhenzhen was unwilling to spend the money; after all, the world was not peaceful, and if something unexpected happened to the three of them living separately, there wouldn't be time to lend a hand.
Although Liuyun Town is far from the front lines of the war, prices are not much cheaper.
Su Zhenzhen ordered two bowls of noodles, since white rice was only available to guests in the superior rooms.
Su Zhenzhen didn't want to eat anything that didn't taste good, and she wanted to take a bath more than eat.
Hensheng volunteered, "I'll go to the kitchen and borrow some hot water in a bit. Hot water shouldn't cost any money."
Su Zhenzhen glanced at him and said, "You better stay put. You always manage to get into trouble when you act alone. Tonight, after they're all asleep, I'll sneak into the kitchen and get some hot water."
Su Zhenzhen is a woman of action; she does what she says she will do. These days, people who stay in inns are discerning; nobody is so idle as to stay in an inn and not sleep at night.
There was no one in the kitchen, so Su Zhenzhen picked up firewood and put it into the stove. When the water was almost boiled, she took out toiletries from her backpack.
Although the requirements for becoming a full-fledged partner in the underworld are somewhat stringent (100 sales targets), their benefits are excellent.
Even the interns' backpacks came with their own personal items. At least they had these things, otherwise Su Zhenzhen didn't know how she would survive in ancient times.
After quickly washing herself with a folding bucket and a towel, Su Zhenzhen felt much more relaxed. Unfortunately, she didn't have any clothes in her backpack. She had specially bought an ancient costume when she was teleported here, but it was now a bit dirty.
I'll see if there are any ready-made clothing stores tomorrow; if so, I'll buy a couple of outfits.
After cleaning up the scene, Su Zhenzhen returned to her room. It was past midnight, and all was quiet.
But for some reason, Su Zhenzhen felt a sudden sense of unease.
And this feeling was confirmed the next day.
Someone died in the house next door.
The authorities are investigating the case, and no one is allowed to leave the inn until the murderer is caught.
"No, sir, we're in a hurry to escape! The barbarians could come and kill us at any time."
