Chapter 201: Is Prefect Hu's Daughter Married?
Without a doubt, Jiang Jingyan was defeated and easily subdued by General Huo.
Jiang Jingyan refused to believe it, staring intently at Su Zhenzhen, "How did you do that?"
Humans and ghosts are separated by the boundary between life and death, a natural and insurmountable chasm; ghosts cannot touch humans.
At least his cousin Jiang Jingwei has been researching for many years, but has made absolutely no progress.
What did Su Zhenzhen do? Could giving a ghost a drop of living human blood really make it overcome the barrier between Yin and Yang?
Su Zhenzhen looked at him coldly and waved behind her.
A black figure suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Except for its eyes, the person was completely covered by black cloth.
"Hand him over to your master," Su Zhenzhen said coldly.
The guards reluctantly took Jiang Jingyan away. How could they explain that he initially thought Su Zhenzhen was deliberately subdued and that he wasn't just watching coldly?
Su Zhenzhen wasn't sure how skilled the bodyguard was, but since he was able to launch a sneak attack from behind while she was being held hostage by Jiang Jingyan, she didn't necessarily need to release General Huo.
But Su Zhenzhen didn't want to hold anyone accountable; she just wanted to give the other party a reminder.
I know you had people watching you from the shadows. Whoever they were watching, they must have clearly seen what happened just now. Why didn't you help them? Was it to avoid revealing your identity, or were you waiting for an opportunity to act with other plans?
The guards acted swiftly, dislocating Jiang Jingyan's jaw to prevent him from shouting.
They carried the man all the way to the county government office, where the guards reported to Chunzhi.
"Jiang Jingyan suddenly attacked Su Zhenzhen. Su Zhenzhen was initially no match for him, but then she summoned General Huo to counterattack."
Chunzhi stopped reading and turned her gaze to Hu Wen beside her.
The latter was shocked. He never expected that this person would speak as soon as he entered, leaving him no chance to get up and take his leave.
"General, I suddenly remembered that I have something to attend to at home, so I'll take my leave now."
Chunzhi did not hold a formal official position, and Hu Wen politely addressed her as "General".
At this moment, Hu Wen only wanted to get away as soon as possible; what happened next was not something a surrendered official like him could hear.
“It won’t make a difference to wait a moment,” Chunzhi said gently. “I have something to discuss with the Prefect. Why don’t you stay and listen to this matter first, and we can come up with a plan together? The Prefect has some matters to attend to at home and can take a day off tomorrow.”
If Hu Wen still insists on going back now that things have come to this point, then he would be ungrateful.
Hu Wen sat back down nervously, silently praying that what he was about to say wouldn't be anything shady.
Chunzhi looked at the guards, "Is there anything else?"
"Jiang Jingyan promised Su Zhenzhen the position of his wife, and his words showed no respect for the Crown Prince of Jiang Dynasty."
The guard relayed every detail of what had happened in Su Zhenzhen's bedroom, down to the smallest detail, making it a veritable live broadcast.
Jiang Jingyan never expected that since he entered Yangcheng, his every move has been under everyone's watchful eye, and now it has been described in vivid detail.
Overwhelmed with shame and embarrassment, Jiang Jingyan's face flushed slightly.
Jiang Jingyan was now gagged. He knew how ugly it would be to struggle to speak. The upbringing of a noble family would not allow him to make such a fool of himself. Therefore, he just stared coldly at Chunzhi at the head of the table, trying to ease his embarrassment with this silent confrontation. He also had a sense of fearlessness that "what can you do to me now that things have come to this?"
Chunzhi scrutinized Jiang Jingyan from head to toe, who looked like a lamb to the slaughter, and finally drew her conclusion.
"Such a talented and handsome man is far inferior to the Crown Prince of Jiang Dynasty. No wonder Su Zhenzhen looks down on him."
"Your Excellency, what do you think?"
Hu Wen hadn't expected to have his own affairs so soon, so he gave a standard, conventional answer.
"The general is absolutely right."
Chunzhi seemed dissatisfied with the answer, clicking her tongue and looking hesitant.
"In your opinion, Your Excellency, what kind of woman is worthy of a man like Jiang Jingyan?"
Unsure of Chunzhi's attitude, Hu Wen gave a standard, conventional answer.
"This young master Jiang comes from a collateral branch of the Jiang family. He is quite handsome and above average in terms of appearance. He is a perfect match for the daughter of an official. In a way, neither family's status is disgraced."
"That's a fair assessment." Chunzhi smiled with satisfaction. "Prefect, I remember you have a daughter of marriageable age. I wonder if she's engaged yet?"
Hu Wen's heart was pounding; he never expected the conversation to turn to him.
Hu Wen's previous evaluation was from an absolutely objective perspective.
Now that he knows Chunzhi intends to use his daughter for a marriage alliance, Hu Wen looks at Jiang Jingyan with the same appreciative air a father-in-law would have when looking at his son-in-law.
The Jiang royal family has basically had only one son per generation, and the selection of the crown princess is carried out through a rigorous process.
Ordinary families who wanted to change their social standing could only wait until the crown prince ascended the throne and then send their daughters into the palace as concubines.
Or perhaps they married into a collateral branch of the Jiang family. However, the collateral branches of the Jiang family have not maintained close ties with the direct imperial family to this day.
Another branch of the Jiang family is very low-key; unless one's ancestors were on good terms with them, it is difficult to find any trace of them.
As a rising star, the Hu family naturally had no opportunity to come into contact with them.
Hu Wen originally planned to marry his daughter to the son of an official in Yangcheng in order to consolidate his power structure through marriage.
But Song Anbang's arrival brought with him people like Chunzhi, causing his original power structure to collapse.
Thinking of this, Hu Wen couldn't help but curse that ungrateful scoundrel.
This Song Anbang is absolutely a menace; even as a child in the countryside, he was disliked by his own parents.
He had a stroke of good luck and got involved with a cousin who was more than five degrees of kinship with him. The emperor bestowed a favor and took him to the capital. He finally got his own name and identity, but then he turned around and betrayed the person who had promoted him.
This scourge reached Yangcheng, and despite treating him to good food and drink, Yangcheng ended up changing hands.
Hu Wen would never admit that he had his own ulterior motives at the time, wanting to play the game of "holding the emperor hostage to command the princes."
But as it turned out, he didn't have that ability.
Having thought a bit too far ahead, Hu Wen refocused his attention on Jiang Jingyan.
It seems like a good choice to establish a kinship with the Jiang family. Even if it's just a name, a hundred years later, the family genealogy will record that although Hu Wen didn't achieve much in his life, marrying his daughter into the Jiang family was something to be praised for.
Therefore, Hu Wen bowed to Chunzhi and said, "My daughter is of marriageable age and has never met any men, nor has she been betrothed since birth. I beg the general to arrange a good marriage for her."
Jiang Jingyan was dumbfounded. This was not what he had imagined. He originally thought that he would be beaten and tortured to find out the purpose of his trip to Yangcheng.
But how did they end up arranging a marriage for him?
Jiang Jingyan twisted a few times symbolically to express his dissatisfaction, since large movements would not look good.
