In the warm spring of March, the grass grows and the orioles fly.
The train travels south, passing through a landscape of blooming flowers.
Feng Mingshu couldn't resist taking out her notebook and sketching the scenery outside the window.
Little did she know that when she painted the landscape, she was also being seen as a landscape by others.
After painting several pictures in a row, Feng Mingshu looked up to stretch his neck, but almost bumped into Zhou Jinshan's chin.
Just then, the train entered the tunnel, and the carriages were plunged into darkness.
The man seized the opportunity to grab his young girl, lowered his head and kissed her, a kiss both intimate and passionate.
The surroundings were noisy. Someone turned on a flashlight, and the light broke through the darkness. The delicate little girl was lying on the headboard, her blushing face hidden by a white pillow.
Zhou Jinshan's thin lips were slightly moist. He smiled as he gently stroked the little girl's back with one hand and picked up a notebook with the other, flipping through the landscape paintings.
It's just a sketch, but the brushstrokes are lively and light, allowing the viewer to immediately see the joy and delight in the artist's heart.
Those who appreciate the painting are equally delighted.
"Comrade, is your spouse a painter?" the passenger in the opposite bunk asked curiously.
"yes."
"no."
The couple spoke in unison, but gave completely different answers.
Feng Mingshu sat up, glared at Zhou Jinshan, and explained to the passenger in the opposite bed, "I've only studied painting for a few years, I'm still far from being a painter."
The passenger in the opposite bed gave her a thumbs up: "It's amazing that you can draw so well after studying for a few years."
Feng Mingshu waved his hand to indicate that he was just an ordinary person.
The conversation between the two attracted the curiosity of other travelers, many of whom came over to admire her sketches, praising them and even asking her to draw their portraits.
But Zhou Jinshan stopped him from making the request, saying only, "My wife is pregnant."
Upon hearing this, the passenger who had made the request apologized sheepishly, and the others dispersed, but the harmonious atmosphere remained, and the children in the carriage all enjoyed watching Feng Mingshu paint.
They were all quiet and well-behaved. One little boy even stuffed some candy from his pocket into her hand, then turned and ran away shyly.
Feng Mingshu was both amused and exasperated. Then, recalling the little boy's appearance, she quickly drew a portrait, tore off a piece of paper, and handed it to Zhou Jinshan: "Please give this to that little boy for me."
Zhou Jinshan took the drawing paper but didn't move. Feng Mingshu asked in surprise, "What's wrong?"
Zhou Jinshan glanced at the candy the little boy had given him on the table and asked in a low voice, "Ming Shu, isn't the chocolate I bought you sweet enough?"
Feng Mingshu was stunned for a second before realizing that the man was jealous—jealous of a six-year-old boy. She couldn't help but laugh and gave him a nudge: "Go deliver it quickly, and I'll draw it for you after you're done."
"No need, it's hard on my eyes on the train, I'll draw it later."
Zhou Jinshan left with these thoughtful words and turned to deliver the painting.
Knowing that he was doing it for her own good, Feng Mingshu closed the storybook, leaned against the quilt, and closed her eyes to rest.
Seeing this, the other children and adults decided not to bother her anymore, but the little boy who received the painting was overjoyed.
The boy's parents wanted to bring him some food to express their gratitude, but Zhou Jinshan declined. He returned to the bed, took off his coat, and covered his wife with it.
Feng Mingshu originally only intended to take a nap, but listening to the rhythmic clanging of the rails, he unknowingly fell asleep.
On a northbound train, the atmosphere in one of the carriages was not so pleasant.
"Captain, I just want to go to the toilet, why are you stopping me?" Chu Xuanxuan said unhappily.
Yue Hongli was one of the temporary team leaders appointed by the educated youth office. Her task was to keep an eye on the team members and prevent any problems from occurring on the train. Unfortunately, Chu Xuanxuan was in her team.
“If you need to go to the restroom, I’ll go with you,” Yue Hongli said, handing her bag to her companion for safekeeping.
"I don't need you to accompany me!"
Chu Xuanxuan said this and took off running, but the passageway was narrow and people were blocking the way, so she couldn't go fast at all.
Yue Hongli quickly caught up with Chu Xuanxuan: "It's just going to the restroom, why are you running?"
The two had reached the connecting area between the carriages. There weren't many people there. Chu Xuanxuan took out a food coupon from her pocket and handed it to Yue Hongli: "Captain, I'm just going to see a friend. Can you make an exception for me?"
Yue Hongli returned the food coupons directly: "I can go with you to see your friend, but it can't be that classmate Zhang."
Chu Xuanxuan was furious: "Zhang Yunxiao is my boyfriend, why can't I go see him?"
Yue Hongli looked at her in astonishment: "Where did you learn to talk nonsense like that?"
"Who's talking nonsense? He's not now, but he'll definitely be my boyfriend in the future!" Chu Xuanxuan declared confidently, leaving Yue Hongli speechless.
"Captain, helping others is helping yourself. I promise there won't be any trouble this time."
She tried to run away after saying that, but Yue Hongli reached out and grabbed her.
The two of them continued to tug and pull at each other until they finally arrived at another carriage, but Zhang Yunxiao was not in the carriage.
"How could he not be here? He clearly got into this carriage. Did you hide him?" Chu Xuanxuan grabbed the head of the educated youth team in the carriage and questioned him.
The team leader, a male educated youth, was caught off guard when Chu Xuanxuan grabbed his collar and nearly choked him. He was finally rescued by the other educated youths. Clutching his neck, he angrily said, "No wonder Comrade Zhang avoids you, you shrew!"
"Who are you calling a shrew?" Chu Xuanxuan was about to pounce, but this time she was stopped by many educated youths.
"You, you're a shrew! Let me tell you the truth, Zhang Yunxiao has moved to the sleeper car. If you want to go, go ahead, nobody's stopping you!"
Upon hearing this, Chu Xuanxuan immediately ran to the sleeper car.
The doors between the sleeper and regular carriages were closed and could only be opened by the train attendant. Chu Xuanxuan was stopped because she couldn't produce a sleeper ticket.
She tried to force her way in but failed and was taken to the flight attendant's room for criticism and education.
Zhang Yunxiao held the sleeper ticket in her hand, her heart filled with complicated emotions.
Because this ticket was obtained for him by his mother, Wang Sujuan, through her connections, he wanted to escape his mother's control, but he was able to temporarily avoid the neurotic Chu Xuanxuan by using the resources his mother provided.
Ultimately, he was too weak.
Zhang Yunxiao looked out the window at the vast land, her fingers clenching tighter and tighter.
Bincheng Maritime College.
Political Commissar Lin received Zhai Qingping's marriage application. The woman was a nurse at Bincheng General Hospital, from a cadre family, and her background was not problematic.
The two had met at a military social dance last year.
Commissar Lin tapped the table with his finger: "Zhai Qingping, marriage is a serious matter. Are you sure you've thought this through?"
Zhai Qingping smiled casually: "Political Commissar, you used to urge me not to get married, but now that I'm getting married, why are you stopping me?"
Political Commissar Lin frowned and scolded, "Look at you now, where is the slightest bit of seriousness in your expression?"
