Chapter 116 Mother-in-law

After being persuaded by the doctor, Zhou Jinshan stopped insisting on carrying Feng Mingshu, but he held her hand the whole way and kept an eye on the road ahead. Even if there was a small pebble blocking the way, he would remove it in advance.

Although Feng Mingshu complained that he was troublesome, a sweet feeling welled up inside her.

After arriving home, Zhou Jinshan helped her sit down and then rushed to the kitchen to cook for her.

"Old Zhou, I'm not hungry now, don't bother me," Feng Mingshu said to the kitchen.

"You have to eat something even if you're not hungry, you're carrying two babies right now."

"It's not certain yet, maybe it's just a misunderstanding." The more Feng Mingshu talked, the more uncertain she became. "Old Zhou, what if it's not this time?"

Zhou Jinshan came out of the kitchen, half-squatted in front of her, and flicked her nose with his flour-covered hand: "If not, then I'll keep trying."

Feng Mingshu's nose was tickled by his touch, and she understood the meaning of "try hard." Her face flushed, and she raised her hand to push him: "Go and cook."

"It'll be ready soon." Zhou Jinshan chuckled and got up to go to the kitchen.

Ten minutes later, a bowl of tomato and egg noodle soup was ready.

The aroma of the food made Feng Mingshu's stomach rumble. Unable to wait for Zhou Jinshan to slowly feed her, she grabbed the spoon and started eating by herself.

Finally, Feng Mingshu finished even the soup in the bowl. Feeling a bit full, she got up to wash the dishes and stretch her legs.

"I'm going to wash up. You can walk around in the yard, but walk slowly."

Zhou Jinshan gave her instructions while washing the dishes and watching her.

Feng Mingshu couldn't help but laugh: "Old Zhou, your hometown is also in the countryside. I've heard that women in the countryside have to do all sorts of chores before giving birth. You treat me like a porcelain doll. Aren't you afraid that your family will laugh at you when they find out?"

"What are you laughing at me for?"

Zhou Jinshan placed the clean dishes on the table, dried his hands, walked up to her, and smiled as he looked down at her: "Are you laughing at my good fortune in marrying such a beautiful and intelligent wife?"

Feng Mingshu tried hard to keep a straight face and pushed his face away: "You're really not modest."

"I'm being sincere," Zhou Jinshan corrected, then suddenly leaned in and kissed her lips.

Feng Mingshu responded instinctively, but then suddenly remembered something, covered the man's lips and asked, "If I'm really pregnant, isn't this bad for the baby?"

Zhou Jinshan: "..."

I'll ask the doctor tomorrow.

That night, all intimate activities were canceled, and Zhou Jinshan slept a completely vegetarian sleep.

Looking at his sleeping wife, Zhou Jinshan, who couldn't sleep, suddenly realized that his wife's pregnancy wasn't entirely a good thing.

The next day.

Before dawn, Zhou Jinshan got up, went to the camp to arrange his work, and then rushed back to make breakfast.

Feng Mingshu woke up to the sound of bugles as usual, and smelled the aroma of food as soon as he went downstairs.

Rice porridge, scallion pancakes, fried eggs, ham sausage, and crisp and delicious lettuce and bok choy.

Feng Mingshu was somewhat surprised: "Why did you make so many?"

Zhou Jinshan handed her the chopsticks: "Eat as much as you can."

Feng Mingshu ate a lot last night, so she didn't have much of an appetite this morning. She only drank half a bowl of porridge and ate a fried egg.

Zhou Jinshan finished the rest of his food and then pushed his bicycle onto the bike, gesturing for her to sit on it.

"No need, it's only a quarter of an hour to get to the hospital."

Unfortunately, Feng Mingshu's refusal was useless, and Zhou Jinshan simply picked her up and placed her on the back seat of the bicycle.

When Sister-in-law Qin saw the couple riding their bicycles out, she asked curiously, "Little Feng, where are you and Commander Zhou going? Are you leaving the island?"

"We're not leaving the island, just going to take care of some business," Feng Mingshu replied, getting ahead of Zhou Jinshan, and patted him on the shoulder. "Let's go, let's hurry back."

Zhou Jinshan glanced back at his wife, a smile spreading across his eyes, then nodded to Sister-in-law Qin: "See you later, sister-in-law."

"See you later."

Sister-in-law Qin subconsciously added, and looking at the bicycle that had ridden into the distance, she couldn't help but mutter, "Commander Zhou seems to be in a particularly good mood today."

"What are you muttering about?" Battalion Commander Qin asked his wife casually as he walked out of his house wearing a hat.

"I was saying that Commander Zhou was really happy just now; I could see a smile on his face," said Sister-in-law Qin.

"What's so strange about that? Commander Zhou isn't some stern-faced judge. Alright, I'm not talking to you anymore, I'm going to work."

Battalion Commander Qin strode towards the outer camp and bumped into Chief of Staff Wang in the western courtyard. The two men then headed to the camp together.

Yan Jiayi went out with her husband. She wasn't in a hurry. When she passed Sister Qin, she raised her chin and tidied her curly hair.

Sister-in-law Qin pursed her lips: "Some people only know how to dress up. They've been married for several years and there's still no sign of pregnancy, but they're not worried at all."

Yan Jiayi was about to leave when she heard this and turned around: "Who are you talking about?"

"I didn't name names, why are you so eager to talk about it?" Sister Qin scoffed.

Yan Jiayi was so choked that her face turned pale. She snorted coldly, "Mind your own business!"

After saying that, he raised his chin and walked away.

Unaware of the argument between the two neighbors, Feng Mingshu went to the hospital, had her blood drawn, and then sat on a bench to wait for the results.

She could still sit still, but Zhou Jinshan soon got up and paced around, glancing at his watch every now and then as he wandered to the lab window.

"Old Zhou, is something wrong? If you're busy, go ahead and do your thing," Feng Mingshu advised.

“I’m fine.” Zhou Jinshan stopped and sat down next to her, then discussed with her, “I want to send a telegram home and ask my mother to come to the island to take care of you.”

Feng Mingshu was startled and quickly waved her hand, "No need, I can take care of myself, there's no need for my mother-in-law to come."

“Mingshu, neither of us has experience. My mother gave birth to five children, including my siblings. If she comes to take care of you, I can focus on my work.” Zhou Jinshan said earnestly, holding her hand.

Feng Mingshu was at her wit's end: "Zhou Jinshan, have you ever seen a daughter-in-law have her mother-in-law come to take care of her as soon as she gets pregnant? And I don't even have any definite news yet."

"Feng Mingshu's blood test results are ready. Family members, please come and pick them up."

Just then, a nurse's voice came from the window.

Zhou Jinshan jumped up, rushed to the window, took the blood test report, looked it over twice, still confused, and asked the window, "Comrade, is my wife pregnant or not?"

"There's data up there, can't you read it?" the nurse retorted.

Just as Commander Zhou was about to honestly answer that he didn't know, the blood test results were snatched from his hand.

Feng Mingshu held the blood test report, glanced at it, and her heart began to pound wildly.

"Ming Shu, you're pregnant, aren't you?" Zhou Jinshan held her hand, his voice trembling slightly.

Feng Mingshu bit her lip and nodded vigorously.

Upon receiving an affirmative answer, Zhou Jinshan's face immediately lit up with ecstasy. He scooped her up in his arms, but then, worried about disturbing the baby in her womb, he quickly put her down.

"Mingshu, I'll take you home first, then I'll send a telegram home."
