Chapter 130 Startled

Afterwards, Wang Ma sent another letter to Feng Mingshu, mentioning that the educated youth living in Feng's ancestral home had settled down, and only half of the dug-up yard was planted with vegetables, while the other half had been restored to its original state.

The letter also included some everyday stories about the villagers.

Among them was the matter of the second son of the Qian family. Wang Ma said that this boy was originally smart, but because he did not do proper work, no one thought much of him. Families with daughters warned their daughters not to associate with this boy and even liked to follow him.

As it turned out, a female educated youth sent to the countryside fell in love with the second son of the Qian family and boldly pursued him without any hesitation. The second son of the Qian family seemed a little impatient, but Wang Ma predicted that the two would get married soon, after all, it's easy for a woman to pursue a man.

After reading the letter, Feng Mingshu thought for a while before remembering that the second son of the Qian family was the roguish boy who called her "Miss" in Xiaowangzhuang at the beginning of this year.

Then, as she was taking the bus back to Bincheng, he whispered something offensive in her ear, which made her very angry.

Looking back now, she has long since lost her anger, leaving only a sense of感慨 (gǎnkǎi, a feeling of mixed emotions, including regret and reflection).

Half a year has passed in the blink of an eye. She is living a peaceful life on the island, her belly is as big as a watermelon, and the troublemaker from her hometown is about to marry the female educated youth. That's good enough.

"What are you looking at?"

Zhou Jinshan walked up to her and asked.

Feng Mingshu snapped out of his reverie, handed over the letter, and smiled, saying, "It's a letter from Aunt Wang, talking about some things back home."

Zhou Jinshan took the letter and casually placed it on the table. He then took his wife's arm and said, "Mingshu, according to the doctor's orders, you need to take a walk for at least half an hour every day. I'll help you walk around in the yard."

Feng Mingshu didn't want to move because she was too tired. She only taught one or two classes a day. Fortunately, the school took care of her as a pregnant woman and specially placed a chair on the podium.

After finishing her classes in the afternoon, she went home and collapsed on a recliner.

"Old Zhou, let me sit a little longer?" Feng Mingshu asked him.

His wife, with her rosy cheeks and soft demeanor, coaxed him sweetly, and Zhou Jinshan's heart fluttered for a moment, but he managed to hold on for the next second: "Ming Shu, let's take a walk first, and I'll massage your legs when we're done."

Alright, Old Zhou has recently mastered the art of leg massage.

Feng Mingshu handed him her hand: "Let's go for a walk today. I'm tired of walking around the yard." Seeing that Zhou Jinshan was about to speak, she added, "We won't go far, just on that path outside the yard."

But then she remembered something, withdrew her hand, and tilted her head slightly to look at Zhou Jinshan: "Commander Zhou, do you feel that helping me take a walk is a disgrace to you as a commander, so you are unwilling? Never mind, I'll go and call Caifeng to accompany me."

"Sister-in-law, did you call me?"

On the second floor, Zhou Caifeng, holding a book, leaned down and asked a question.

"This is none of your business. Go read your book." Zhou Jinshan waved his hand upstairs.

Zhou Caifeng said "Oh," but still leaned on the railing and looked down, a smile on her face.

Zhou Jinshan: "..."

“Teacher Feng, let’s go. I’m more than willing.” Zhou Jinshan extended his hand to Feng Mingshu, looking helpless.

Feng Mingshu laughed until her stomach hurt a little, so she quickly stopped laughing, put her hand on the man's large palm, and used it to stand up. The man's other hand then rested on her waist, making sure she was steady.

With her pregnant belly sticking out, she slowly walked out of the yard, and the neighbors all greeted her.

"Is Teacher Feng out for a walk?"

"Commander Zhou is with you? What a model husband! Teacher Feng, you are so lucky."

"Teacher Feng, judging from your belly, your due date should be less than a month away, right?"

Feng Mingshu thought Zhou Jinshan would feel uncomfortable, but she didn't expect him to respond to the neighbors' greetings on her behalf.

"Yes, I took Teacher Feng out for a walk."

"My due date is next month."

"Sister-in-law, I feel unworthy of your praise. It is my blessing to marry Teacher Feng."

Zhou Jinshan's response made the women laugh, and they jokingly said that they should have their husbands come over and learn from him.

Just then, Director Lu of the Political Department suddenly led a group of soldiers over, his expression serious and dignified.

Upon seeing this, the women stopped laughing and joking.

Feng Mingshu's heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively grabbed Zhou Jinshan's hand, only to let go a second later.

She has to face her own problems.

Before their hands had completely separated, Zhou Jinshan grabbed her hand in return, looked up to meet Director Lu's gaze, and asked, "Director Lu, is there something you need here?"

Director Lu paused, glanced at Feng Mingshu's protruding belly, and said, "Commander Zhou, take your wife back to the compound first. I need to go next door."

Feng Mingshu paused for a moment, then turned to look at Zhou Jinshan.

"Thank you." Zhou Jinshan said his thanks, then immediately helped his wife up and turned to walk into their own yard.

Director Lu and his soldiers brushed past them and headed towards the west courtyard.

Feng Mingshu suddenly realized that the other party was not looking for her, but was going to Chief of Staff Wang's house next door.

She had a vague suspicion, but her stomach started to feel uncomfortable, so she didn't dare to think too much about it. She grabbed Zhou Jinshan's hand and said, "Old Zhou, I can't walk anymore."

Upon hearing this, Zhou Jinshan's expression became tense: "Were you frightened? I'll carry you to the hospital."

As he spoke, he bent down to pick her up and carry her away, but Feng Mingshu quickly said, "It's not that serious, I'm just a little uncomfortable. You can carry me into the yard to rest for a bit."

Zhou Jinshan observed her expression and, seeing that she wasn't in too much pain, nodded and turned to enter the courtyard.

Before I could even put her on the recliner, there was already some commotion in the neighboring yard.

"My manuscripts have all been reviewed by the station. If there are any problems, they should be held accountable, not me!"

Next door, Yan Jiayi's voice was sharp and panicked.

“Someone from the radio station will investigate. But your problem isn’t just about the script; it also involves your family. Come with us right now and explain everything,” Director Lu said sternly.

Yan Jiayi seemed to realize something and hurriedly backed away: "I'm not going! I'm fine! I went through a political vetting process when I married Lao Wang. Lao Wang, Lao Wang, please come out and say something for me!"

Chief of Staff Wang came out of the house, but his expression was full of regret and remorse: "Jiayi, I never thought that you would deceive me with fake documents when we got married."

Yan Jiayi was stunned: "Wang Shijie, what do you mean by that? How did I lie to you?"

Wang Shijie sighed: "The family information you provided to me is correct, but you deliberately omitted your aunt. Your aunt went to Taiwan with her husband before the liberation. Am I right?"

Yan Jiayi's face drained of color instantly. She frantically grabbed her husband's arm and said, "Shijie, you have to believe me. I didn't mean to hide it. My family severed ties with my aunt a long time ago. My aunt's name isn't even on our family's genealogy..."

"Jiayi, you should go and talk to the organization yourself." Wang Shijie sighed, and with some effort, he managed to pull Yan Jiayi's hand away. He then gave Director Lu a look.

Director Lu led his men forward, and Yan Jiayi no longer dodged, but looked straight at her husband and asked, "If I told you I was pregnant, would you still refuse to save me?"
