Feng Mingshu smiled and took her hand, saying, "You don't need to reduce your food intake. From now on, you can eat whatever I eat."
Li Mingxue nodded happily.
But when she was eating, she realized she had been too happy, because her sister was eating wild vegetable buns, mushrooms, and all kinds of vegetables, but not meat.
She said nice things, that simple meals could cleanse the stomach and intestines and strengthen the body, so even her doting grandmother wouldn't give her meat.
Li Mingxue ate two cornbread buns with tears in her eyes, but couldn't eat anymore.
Three days later, when her mother returned, Li Mingxue pretended to cry, "Mom, I haven't eaten meat for three days, and I've lost weight."
Yu Jingqiu smiled and looked at her second daughter, pinching her chubby little face: "You still have room to lose weight, keep trying. When your eldest sister leaves, you can go back to Bincheng with her."
These words caused astonishment throughout the room.
Feng Mingshu asked, "Mom, aren't you coming back with me?"
Yu Jingqiu shook her head and smiled, "It's not the right time yet."
Feng Mingshu understood that this should be a year later.
She didn't insist. After staying in Lijiatun for another three days, she took her three children, their uncle and aunt, and boarded the train back to Bincheng.
After returning home, the twin siblings Li Mingyu and Li Mingxue walked around the small villa with some emotion, and then took their nephew and niece to the places they used to play in their childhood, and played there again. After that, they focused on their studies with their older sister.
Of course, morning exercise is an essential part of the day.
With the help of Feng Mingshu's specially adjusted diet, the brother and sister lost excess fat in less than half a year. One became tall and handsome, and the other became slender and beautiful.
The brother and sister always attract a lot of attention when they walk down the street.
Neighbors came one after another to propose marriage, but before Feng Mingshu could speak, the brother and sister said they had no interest in marriage and wanted to focus on their studies.
The neighbors didn't quite believe it. The college entrance exam had been suspended for ten years. They thought that going to middle school was enough and there was no need to study anymore.
Unexpectedly, they were proven wrong a few months later when the college entrance examination was reinstated and the exam was scheduled for two months later.
Neighbors whose children were interested in taking the college entrance examination shamelessly sent their children to the small villa, asking Feng Mingshu and his two siblings for help and guidance.
Feng Mingshu did not completely refuse. She made a copy of her review materials and gave it to the first neighbor who came to visit, so that they could make copies of the materials they needed.
Most of the neighbors expressed their gratitude, and a few had some minor complaints, but Feng Mingshu didn't take them to heart. She and her younger siblings made their final push according to the established plan.
Time flew by, and the three siblings were assigned to different examination rooms.
Feng Mingshu asked Zhou Jinshan to send off her younger siblings, while she went to her alma mater, Yangming Middle School, alone.
On this day, she met many former classmates, but no one was in the mood for small talk; they all entered the exam hall with a mix of nervousness and excitement.
Most candidates finished their exams in two days. The third day was for the elective foreign language exam. Feng Mingshu took the exam, handed in his paper early, and left the exam room.
Outside the venue, she was surprised to find that many of her old classmates, both men and women, were waiting for her.
Including Zhang Yunxiao and Chu Xuanxuan, but they were both very quiet and didn't talk to each other, as if they were strangers.
The other classmates, however, were very enthusiastic in exchanging pleasantries with Feng Mingshu and asking about her recent situation. Feng Mingshu simply replied that she had returned to Bincheng a year ago and was currently unemployed.
Even so, it did not dampen the students' enthusiasm. Soon someone suggested going to a state-run restaurant for a meal and to catch up.
Feng Mingshu declined, saying, "I won't go. I have children to take care of at home. Let's talk again another time."
After saying that, she took her leave, her steps calm yet firm.
After she walked away, some classmates hadn't reacted yet. One boy exclaimed, "Feng Mingshu actually has a child! You can't tell at all. She looks the same as she did ten years ago."
The classmates nodded in agreement. Chu Xuanxuan finally couldn't help but say, "Of course, it's because she married well and lives a good life that she doesn't show any signs of aging on her face."
The students immediately pressed on with curiosity, "You seem to be related to her, right? Do you know who she married? What does she do for a living?"
Surrounded by people, Chu Xuanxuan felt a sense of satisfaction. So what if Feng Mingshu ignored her? She could still use her to become the center of attention, then control those relationships and turn them into resources to help her climb the social ladder.
Zhang Yunxiao glanced at Chu Xuanxuan, who was smugly standing in the crowd, then turned and left.
He walked unhurriedly along the path Feng Mingshu had taken, keeping a sufficient distance so that she was unaware that he was following her.
Not long after, he saw a bright smile bloom on her face when she saw her husband, and he saw them walking away hand in hand in the bright sunshine.
Finally, at the entrance of an alley, they saw Pi Dapeng lying on the ground, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. Zhang Yunxiao walked over, squatted down, and asked with a smile, "Got beaten up? How does it feel?"
Pi Dapeng spat a mouthful of blood at him: "Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west of the river, I'll rise again sooner or later!"
Zhang Yunxiao raised an eyebrow slightly: "You don't have thirty years left, because I won't give my enemies a chance to rise." Neither will that person.
Two weeks later, Pi Dapeng was attacked for revenge and both of his legs were broken.
Over the past decade, many families have been ruined and destroyed by Pi Dapeng, so it is only natural that they are now being retaliated against.
The Pi family reported the case to the police, but after a brief inquiry, the case was dropped due to a lack of leads.
Afterwards, Pi Dapeng, who was paralyzed in bed, was also disliked by his family. Although they did not kick him out of the house, they could not give him a meal a day. Finally, one day, after his wound became infected and he developed a fever, he stopped breathing completely.
Spring of 1978.
Feng Mingshu received his admission letter from the Department of Foreign Languages at Peking University.
Li Mingxue was admitted to Bincheng University, while Li Mingyu was admitted to a military academy as he wished.
This spring, Yu Jingqiu and Li Yanzhong returned to Bincheng from Northeast China, and the family was reunited.
The next day, the family returned to the Feng family's ancestral home in Xiaowangzhuang.
The three children, Mao Mao, happily went on a treasure hunt, and with the guidance of their grandmother, Yu Jingqiu, they actually found the treasure.
There are beautiful porcelain, bright orange gold bars, jewelry, calligraphy and paintings, antiques, and so on.
The three children were overjoyed and brought out their treasures to present to their mother.
Feng Mingshu then handed the package to her mother: "Mom, you know I'm not cut out for business, nor do I have any interest in it, so I'm entrusting all of this to you."
Yu Jingqiu asked with a smile, "Aren't you afraid that Mom will lose all your precious items?"
Feng Mingshu hugged her arm and laughed, "It's okay if we lose all the money, as long as Mom is here."
Yu Jingqiu affectionately tapped her daughter's forehead: "Then Mom will give it a try and try her best to earn a respectable family business for my granddaughter."
