Chapter 4 First Encounter at the Hospital

That night, Feng Mingshu stayed in her mother's room. Later, Mingxue also came. Only Mingyu was sent back to sleep in his own room because of the difference between men and women.

I slept well all night.

The next day, Feng Mingshu woke up early and ran to the kitchen to help his mother cook.

The twins were surprised that their older sister could do housework, so they went over to join in the fun, making a mess of the kitchen, and were eventually kicked out.

Wang Ma was a little lost when she had nothing to do again, so Yu Jingqiu gave her another day off, promising that her salary would not be deducted. Only then did Wang Ma happily go back to take care of her daughter-in-law who had just given birth.

After breakfast, the family of four went to Bincheng No. 1 Hospital.

This is one of the top hospitals in the area. The Feng family was one of the founders. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, they voluntarily donated their shares to the state and no longer participated in management. However, their past friendship remains, and several attending physicians have always been on good terms with the Feng family.

Yu Jingqiu contacted Director Wang, whom she knew, and quickly arranged for a physical examination.

However, in those days, testing methods were limited, and imported equipment was extremely scarce. There were only simple blood tests, urine tests, auscultation, and the four diagnostic methods of traditional Chinese medicine: observation, listening, questioning, and palpation.

The results came out quickly; apart from Mingyu having some minor digestive issues due to overeating, all four family members were in good health.

Despite her joy, Feng Mingshu was still somewhat worried. After reviewing all of her mother's test reports and finding no problems, she pulled Director Wang aside and asked, "Uncle Wang, have all the tests been completed? Is anything missing? We're not in a hurry, so please arrange them all for us, just my mother's."

Director Wang paused slightly, glanced behind the little girl, and smiled kindly: "Our hospital has arranged everything we can, little girl. You can rest assured, based on the current test results, your mother is in good health. Of course, if you ever find that your family member is feeling unwell, please come to the hospital immediately."

Upon hearing this, Feng Mingshu breathed a sigh of relief and nodded repeatedly, indicating that he would follow the doctor's advice.

At this moment, Yu Jingqiu, who was standing behind her daughter, spoke gently: "The hospital is good, but it's a bit far from my home. It's troublesome to go to the hospital when I have a fever or a cold. How about Director Wang prescribe some fever-reducing medicine for me so I can keep some at home?"

Director Wang nodded: "That's fine, please come with me."

“Mom, I’ll go,” Feng Mingshu immediately volunteered, but was refused.

"You stay here and keep an eye on them. Mom will be back soon."

Yu Jingqiu walked away quickly, so Feng Mingshu had to stay in the corridor to look after the twins while waiting.

Suddenly, a commotion broke out ahead.

The curious twins not only craned their necks to look around, but also secretly wiggled their short legs out as well.

Feng Mingshu immediately frowned: "Mingyu and Mingxue, come back!"

But before she could finish speaking, several people in military uniforms pushed a blood-stained stretcher straight toward the corridor, while white coats shouted urgently to make way.

Feng Mingshu's heart skipped a beat. She immediately rushed over, grabbed the twins, and backed away. Her movements were too hasty, and all three siblings crashed into the wall. Fortunately, they managed to avoid the oncoming stretcher.

As they passed each other, Feng Mingshu saw a soldier lying unconscious on a stretcher. He was covered in blood, his short hair was also stained red, and blood was flowing down his forehead, a shocking sight.

Just as she was about to look away, the soldier suddenly opened his eyes. His dark pupils were cold and sharp, and he shot towards her with murderous intent.

In an instant, Feng Mingshu froze.

Just like being stared at by a fierce and cruel beast in the wild, humans react instinctively, standing still and playing dead!

But a rebellious impulse suddenly arose in her heart. She had been reborn, so why should she still be so cowardly?

She opened her almond-shaped eyes wide and glared back, like a small animal showing its delicate claws to a fierce beast.

The moment Zhou Jinshan broke free from unconsciousness and opened his eyes, he still heard gunshots and saw blood everywhere. His body instinctively prepared for battle, but he found himself injured and unable to move. As he looked around, he met a pair of misty almond-shaped eyes.

In that instant, he seemed to see the spring water flowing in the mountains of his hometown. When he was young, he would bathe and catch fish in that spring water every year, and he felt extremely happy every time.

Perhaps it was because he missed his hometown too much, or perhaps for some other reason, but he couldn't look away for a moment, his gaze burning.

But soon, he noticed the fear and apprehension in her eyes. Had he frightened her?

Just as Zhou Jinshan was about to look away, the soft-spoken girl suddenly mustered up the courage to glare at him, but her clear almond-shaped eyes had no intimidating power whatsoever. Instead, they were like a kitten scratching at his heart.

A strange feeling, one he had never experienced before, suddenly welled up in his chest.

"This is the operating room. Take him in, the doctor will be here right away!"

The head nurse, who had rushed over, gave loud instructions and pushed open a door in front of her. Several soldiers immediately pushed the stretcher inside.

When the piercing gaze disappeared, Feng Mingshu realized that his back, which was pressed against the wall, was sweaty and his undershirt was damp.

She suddenly regretted glaring back at him.

"Sister, the person on the stretcher is so scary," Mingxue muttered softly, clutching her sister's sleeve tightly.

"Coward, those are heroes. All soldiers are heroes." Mingyu puffed out his little chest, his eyes shining. "When I grow up, I'll join the army too. Sister, what do you say?"

Meeting his younger brother's innocent eyes, Feng Mingshu recalled the man's cold, sharp gaze and the bloodstains all over his body, and for a moment he was speechless.

"Director Wang, the patient has shrapnel in his body and needs immediate surgery. I have already arranged for him to be taken to operating room number one."

The head nurse's voice rang out again. She led Director Wang over and, noticing some people by the roadside, immediately waved her hand: "Don't gather here, everyone disperse."

Director Wang also saw the three siblings and nodded slightly: "Mingshu, your mother is behind you, go ahead."

Following Director Wang's instructions, Feng Mingshu saw her mother not far away. She quickly thanked her and pulled her younger siblings over to join her.

Feng Mingshu discreetly checked the medicine her mother had given her, and it was indeed a regular fever-reducing medicine. Her anxiety finally subsided.

I figured that as long as I avoided that impact, my mother would be safe and sound.

After having lunch at home, Feng Mingshu and her daughter Yu Jingqiu went to the municipal government.

Upon arriving at the destination, Feng Mingshu discovered that the donation was made in her name as the eldest daughter of the Feng family, while her mother's name was not listed.

She was about to object, but the mayor had already been alerted and took the time to meet with them, then arranged for his office director to receive them.

The director, surnamed Wu, was a kind and warm-hearted female leader. She praised and thanked the mother and daughter for their selflessness and then kindly asked, "Are you having any difficulties in your life, work, or studies? If so, please tell us. The organization will do its best to help you if it can."

The Feng family donated all their assets except for the small Western-style house in the west of the city. If the organization didn't express its support, it would be disheartening.

Director Wu has learned that the eldest daughter of the donor, Ms. Feng, will be taking the college entrance examination next year and is doing quite well. This donation is probably to make her college entrance examination smoother.

She couldn't be sure about universities outside the city, but she could make arrangements for several local universities in Bincheng. As long as the scores were high enough, she wouldn't be held back in other aspects.

If the girl doesn't pass the exam, arranging a job for her is also an option, such as a sales clerk or a train conductor.
