Chapter 55 Ming Shu, come in, I have something to show you.

Zhou Jinshan moved too quickly, and Feng Mingshu couldn't stop him. When a large bowl of meat and vegetables was pushed in front of her, Feng Mingshu was dumbfounded: "Do you think I'm a pig?"

A smile appeared in Zhou Jinshan's eyes: "I'd like to, but you're not eating enough."

Just then, laughter faintly came from the kitchen. Feng Mingshu instinctively felt that they were laughing at her, and her face immediately turned red. She refused to speak to Zhou Jinshan anymore and just buried her head in her food.

But the bowl was too big, and the dishes were mostly meat and oily, so she was full after eating only half of it.

As soon as she looked up, she saw a slogan on the left side of the canteen wall that read, "Every grain of rice and every bowl of porridge should remind us of the hard work involved in obtaining them," and on the right side that read, "Corruption and waste are the greatest crimes." She was speechless and choked with emotion, then lowered her head and continued eating.

Looking at her expressive face and the difficulty of swallowing, Zhou Jinshan couldn't help but smile: "Don't you remember what I just said?"

Feng Mingshu looked up blankly, and Zhou Jingshan reached out and took the large bowl from her hand.

"I'll finish what you leave behind," Zhou Jinshan repeated, then lowered his head and ate his rice from her bowl, chewing heartily.

Feng Mingshu was stunned for a moment, and his face suddenly turned hot.

When she was little, her mother ate her leftovers. As she grew older and learned about her appetite, she never added more food, so there were no leftovers.

But right now, the man opposite her is taking her bowl without any politeness and eating her leftovers, blatantly demonstrating their intimate relationship.

Suddenly, a phrase came to mind—mutual support and companionship.

The next second, she banished the word from her mind and silently reminded herself that she and Zhou Jinshan had registered their marriage and were now husband and wife. Some intimate behaviors were normal, and she should try to adapt rather than reject them.

Zhou Jinshan finished his new wife's leftovers in less than two minutes. He looked up and met his wife's calm gaze. There was no disgust or shyness, only a slight blush on her cheeks.

He had a vague feeling that his wife had changed in some ways.

"Old Zhou, have some soup." Feng Mingshu smiled and handed him a bowl of soup.

Zhou Jinshan took the bottle and gulped it down. He suddenly remembered that when the two of them discussed their marriage yesterday, his wife had mentioned the word "gentle and virtuous".

He understood the general meaning of the word; he had even looked it up in the dictionary yesterday.

Having experienced it firsthand, it would be hypocritical to say he didn't enjoy it, but a voice inside him warned him that if he became too engrossed in it, things would inevitably go wrong.

He put down the soup bowl, reached out and took his wife's hand from the table, gently squeezing her fingers: "Mingshu, you don't need to do things like serving soup, be careful not to burn yourself."

Feng Mingshu: "..."

She couldn't maintain her gentle and virtuous demeanor any longer. Before anyone in the cafeteria could look over, she quickly pulled her hand away, glared at the man opposite her, and said, "Do you really think I'm someone who never lifts a finger?"

Seeing her playful eye roll, Zhou Jinshan's initial wariness vanished, and he laughed, "If we had a daughter, I wouldn't want her to have sex."

Feng Mingshu's face flushed instantly. She turned to look at the kitchen of the cafeteria and saw that everyone was busy with their own work. She breathed a sigh of relief, glared at Zhou Jinshan, and said in a low voice, "Watch your words and actions in public."

Unbeknownst to her, when she turned around, the busy kitchen staff all looked up and jokingly stared at Zhou Jinshan.

Zhou Jinshan remained expressionless, smiling and nodding: "Okay, I'll listen to my wife."

The man's voice was deep and resonant, and the word "lover" that he uttered seemed to carry a certain ambiguity.

Feng Mingshu couldn't sit still, but she didn't want to leave, so she gave him another warning look: "Hurry up and eat, the people in the kitchen are waiting to clean up."

"We're not in a hurry, you can take your time eating," a head chef in the kitchen replied with a smile.

What a wonderful show! You can't catch one like it even once a year. They haven't had enough yet.

Upon hearing the master chef's words, Feng Mingshu knew perfectly well that what she had been seeing was not a hallucination; she had indeed been the target of a spectacle.

"You eat slowly, I'm going out for some fresh air."

After saying this, Feng Mingshu got up and quickly left the cafeteria. Only when she could no longer hear the laughter and chatter behind her did the heat on her face gradually subside.

Instead of leaving in a huff, she waited under a tree outside the cafeteria.

Zhou Jinshan arrived quickly and apologized, "It was my fault, don't be angry."

Feng Mingshu turned her head to look at him: "How can you tell I'm angry?"

Meeting her clear, sharp gaze, Zhou Jinshan smiled: "That was my fault too, I misunderstood you."

Feng Mingshu: "..."

She felt like she had bullied someone and couldn't help but feel a little guilty. She explained, "I know the people in the cafeteria didn't mean any harm. We're newlyweds, so it's normal for people to stare and tease us. I'm just a little uncomfortable with it, but I'll get used to it."

"My wife has such a good temper; she's my blessing," Zhou Jinshan praised with a smile, tentatively reaching out to take her hand.

Feng Mingshu dodged the attack, glaring at him: "You're still in your military academy, be mindful of your behavior."

Although it's before the Cultural Revolution and the social atmosphere isn't too strict, holding hands in public like this still draws attention, and she doesn't want to be the center of attention again.

“Okay, I’ll listen to you. We’ll wait until we leave the military academy to take the lead.” Zhou Jinshan went along with it, his eyes full of smiles.

Feng Mingshu: "..."

She realized she couldn't give the man any ammunition, so she simply kept quiet.

Zhou Jinshan seemed to have guessed her thoughts and did not probe further. He simply led her for a walk on campus, introducing the scenery around her and occasionally interjecting with topics about training.

Of course, none of these are confidential.

Feng Mingshu found that when this man was serious, he was quite comfortable to be around. She was so engrossed in listening that she didn't notice it was almost two o'clock. Zhou Jinshan then led her back to the dormitory area.

The dormitory area was bustling with activity. Doors were wide open, people were getting up, making their beds, and some were even calling out to her as "sister-in-law" or "brother's wife." This made the students in the dorms who weren't dressed yet very anxious, and they hurriedly tried to avoid her.

Actually, they didn't need to hide, because Zhou Jinshan blocked Feng Mingshu's view first, and Feng Mingshu quickly turned her back and didn't see anything.

Zhai Qingping hadn't slept all afternoon, so he wasn't flustered. But seeing Feng Mingshu shyly hiding in front of Zhou Jinshan, an indescribable feeling welled up in his heart.

He picked up his hat, didn't say goodbye, and strode away.

Zhou Jinshan glanced at his retreating figure, then casually looked away and said to his wife in front of him, "They'll be leaving soon."

Indeed, it was very fast. The military academy cadets disappeared in just two minutes, and the dormitory area returned to quiet.

Feng Mingshu breathed a sigh of relief, put some distance between himself and Zhou Jinshan, and pointed to the dormitory on the east side, saying, "Go in and get your things yourself, I'll wait for you outside."

When Zhou Jinshan saw his wife's delicate, rosy ear tips, he couldn't help but recall the cool, soft touch of his fingertips brushing against her ear tips last night. His Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily, and his voice became slightly hoarse: "Ming Shu, I have something to show you. Come in with me for a moment."
