Having witnessed her mother and Uncle Li's respectful and courteous relationship, and after listening to her mother's advice, and considering that she had indeed taken advantage of Zhou Jinshan's military officer status, Feng Mingshu decided to change the way the two interacted. She would take the initiative and be more considerate towards him.
So, after Zhou Jinshan arrived in the afternoon, Feng Mingshu first poured him some tea, then took out the Nanfu Hero fountain pen that he had just bought that day and personally pinned it to his military uniform jacket pocket.
It was her first time doing something like this, and she felt a little awkward and unskilled. The pen was clipped on crookedly, while above her, the man was breathing heavily.
She was only up to Zhou Jinshan's chin, and the man's hot breath hit her forehead directly, making her feel itchy.
The itching made Feng Mingshu's movements a little erratic. After spending some time adjusting the pen, she pulled down the cap on the top of the pocket, but inadvertently felt the man's heart pounding violently below, which made her hand go numb. She quickly withdrew her hand and tried to back away.
Her wrist was grabbed, and Zhou Jinshan looked down at her, his gaze intense: "Ming Shu, is there something you want to say?"
Feng Mingshu was a little confused by the question and did not answer for a moment.
Zhou Jinshan sighed again: "Go ahead and tell me, I can take it."
Feng Mingshu looked up at the man's expression, and belatedly asked, "Do you think I did all this to make a deal with you?"
The man looked at her with his dark eyes, saying nothing, but that was an implicit agreement.
His calloused fingertips gently caressed her fair and delicate wrist, sending a tingling sensation through her.
It also gave me goosebumps.
Feng Mingshu suddenly became a little annoyed, pulled her hand away and sat down on the sofa: "Yes, I have a request for doing this. My mother and younger siblings are going to the north soon, and I want to go see them off."
"No." Zhou Jinshan's heart tightened, and he immediately rejected the idea.
“Why not? They don’t know when they’ll be back in Bincheng. I’m just going to see them off. It’s not like I’m not coming back.” Feng Mingshu felt a little aggrieved. Her mother disagreed, and even Zhou Jinshan disagreed.
Looking at the little girl's slightly red eyes, Zhou Jinshan couldn't help but soften. He sat down next to her, held her soft hand, and patiently said, "Mingshu, I don't have a vacation right now, so I can't go with you to see them off. When I have a vacation in the future, I'll go with you to the north to see them."
"I don't need you to accompany me, I can deliver it myself," Feng Mingshu said nonchalantly.
“You’re taking her home by yourself and coming back alone. It’s such a long journey. How can I be at ease?” Zhou Jinshan gripped her hand tightly, his jaw clenching.
Seeing his anxious expression, Feng Mingshu felt a strange emotion. She lowered her eyes and said, "I'm not some clueless little girl. What's there to worry about about me going on a long trip?"
Zhou Jinshan gazed at her and said, "You are my little girl."
The man's voice was deep, mellow, and magnetic, making Feng Mingshu's heart tremble. She looked up and met the man's bright eyes.
In those eyes, there is a tiny reflection of myself.
The little girl looked up at him, her almond-shaped eyes glistening with moisture, her lips a deep red, like a ripe red fruit from the mountains of his hometown, sweet and delicious. Zhou Jinshan couldn't help but lower his head, wanting to taste the red fruit before him.
Feng Mingshu sensed his intention and nervously closed her eyes.
The darkness amplified one's senses, and Feng Mingshu smelled the man's clean and refreshing scent. This scent overwhelmed her breath, and with its scalding heat, it drew closer and closer to her lips, making her tense up.
But the next moment, the man's lips pressed against her brow, soft and warm, a fleeting touch.
Feng Mingshu breathed a sigh of relief, but a strange sense of loss also arose in his heart.
"Sister and brother-in-law, dinner's ready."
Just then, Xiaomingxue's soft, sweet voice came from the restaurant.
The disappointment vanished instantly. Feng Mingshu immediately pushed Zhou Jinshan away, stood up abruptly, and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that her sister hadn't run over.
"How about we go to the bedroom next time?" Zhou Jinshan stood up and leaned down to coax her in a low voice.
Feng Mingshu's ears suddenly felt hot, and she pushed him again: "I'm not going."
After saying that, she quickly went to the restaurant to help set the plates and serve the rice, keeping herself very busy, but she didn't even glance at Zhou Jinshan.
Looking at her daughter's flushed cheeks, Yu Jingqiu smiled knowingly and rearranged the seating: "Xiaoyu and Xiaoxue, don't sit next to your older sister anymore. Come sit here with Mom."
"Okay, Mom," Xiaomingxue replied softly, taking her bowl and moving to her mother's side.
Little Mingyu was a little unhappy, and he shuffled around on the chair, dawdling.
Just as Feng Mingshu was about to give his younger brother a thumbs up, he saw Zhou Jinshan lean down and whisper something in his brother's ear. The boy's eyes lit up instantly, and he immediately betrayed his brother, grabbing his bowl and running to sit down across the table.
Feng Mingshu was furious and turned to Zhou Jinshan to ask, "What benefits did you promise him?"
Li Mingyu spoke first, "Brother-in-law, this is our secret." Then he looked at his brother-in-law expectantly.
Finally hearing his brother-in-law call him "brother-in-law," Zhou Jinshan felt refreshed and nodded to his brother-in-law: "Yes, this is our secret, we won't tell your sister."
Feng Mingshu was so angry she laughed. She pushed the freshly served rice to Zhou Jinshan and said, "Then don't talk to me anymore today. Just eat your rice."
Zhou Jinshan: "..."
"Brother-in-law, let me talk to you." Li Mingyu felt a little guilty and offered to make amends.
"No need, let's eat." Zhou Jinshan politely declined his brother-in-law's offer, sat down, picked up the serving chopsticks, and began to serve food to his young lady.
We firmly adhere to the principle of taking action rather than speaking.
Feng Mingshu glared at him, then picked up her bowl and started eating.
The atmosphere at the meal was quite pleasant; the family chatted and laughed, except for the young couple who didn't speak directly to each other. However, Zhou Jinshan would seize every opportunity to serve food to Feng Mingshu, successfully getting her to eat until she was stuffed.
To help with digestion, Feng Mingshu volunteered to wash the dishes.
She had just turned on the kitchen tap when she heard footsteps stop behind her.
The orange light enveloped her completely, and the man's tall figure surrounded her. Without turning her head, she waved to him, signaling him to move aside and not block the light.
The man didn't move: "Ming Shu, the military academy just called, I need to go back immediately."
Feng Mingshu paused for a moment, turned off the tap and turned around. Seeing that Zhou Jinshan was already dressed, she said to him, "Then you should leave quickly."
“It’s a temporary training session, and we might have to stay at sea for a few days before we can come back,” Zhou Jinshan said, looking at her.
This was the first time a man had explained his itinerary to her, especially since he was her husband. Feng Mingshu was a little flustered and after three seconds, she said dryly, "Then be careful and come back safely."
Hearing her words, Zhou Jinshan's cold face softened, and he stared into her eyes: "Before I leave, I want to ask for something."
"What do you want?" Feng Mingshu asked immediately.
A smile and longing gleamed in the man's eyes. He leaned down and said in a low, husky voice, "Ming Shu, I just brushed my teeth."
