Chapter 8 Arriving at the Blind Date Venue

Suddenly, the municipal office issued an instruction to "strengthen the ideological and moral education of employees." The leaders of the cotton mill were on edge. Then, the municipal office specifically named a female employee in the factory who had to attend the training session. The leaders immediately understood where this unexpected disaster came from.

After figuring out what happened, they were even more furious. It was truly a case of one bad apple spoiling the whole bunch, especially at such a crucial time as the end of the year!

She needs to study, so let her study hard, study like crazy!

Yu Xiuchun was flustered when she was first called there, but when she found out that she was just there to study and didn't even have to attend classes, she stopped caring and even felt a little smug.

When her supervisor asked her to write a study report, she just did a sloppy job and wasn't afraid of being criticized. She was a worker with a secure job, and even if her supervisor was unhappy, could he fire her?

Yes, the boss couldn't fire her, but the workshop foreman position that her husband was just one day away from being filled was taken by his neighbor, Old Wang.

That evening, the couple had a fight, and Yu Chunxiu was slapped hard across the face, leaving it swollen.

The next day, Chu Xuanxuan ran out of the experts' building in tears because Wang Sujuan had told her in front of everyone that the Zhang family would not marry a girl from a family with questionable moral character.

Chu Xuanxuan ran back to the tenement building and started crying and making a scene at Yu Xiuchun, who had been "studying" all day. The neighbors around her got to watch the spectacle.

Old Wang next door was the happiest, enjoying the lively scene while munching on his cornbread, saving himself the trouble of eating any other dishes.

The excitement at the Chu family's house hadn't even died down when Sunday arrived, the day for the military social dance party held at the Red Star Auditorium.

Feng Mingshu went to the tailor shop early in the morning to pick up her new clothes: a gray-blue collared top and matching straight-leg pants. The fit was very loose, and they swayed a bit when she put them on, but that was exactly the effect she wanted.

She had been hiding to try on clothes when the twins playfully barged into her room. Her mother, dressed in a plain cheongsam, then came in, her gentle gaze falling upon her.

Feng Mingshu couldn't help but feel uneasy and explained in a low voice, "Mom, I think it would be better for me to dress simply for the ball, given my status."

Yu Jingqiu could easily see through her daughter's little scheme. She smiled and nodded, "Zhuzhu has good taste. Mom will buy you something. Don't worry, it's not jewelry."

"That's not necessary..."

Under her mother's smiling gaze, Feng Mingshu's voice gradually weakened, and then a brownish-red leather belt appeared around her waist.

Her simple work clothes were instantly elevated, adding a touch of dashing spirit and showcasing her slender waist.

Feng Mingshu inwardly groaned, but dared not disobey her gentle mother, so she could only run away first.

"Mom, I'm running out of time, I have to go wait for the bus." She put on her cotton-padded coat, grabbed her army green backpack, and stomped downstairs.

"Sister's scarf." Mingxue trotted over, holding up a red cashmere scarf.

Feng Mingshu hesitated for a second, but still accepted it: "Thank you, Xiaomingxue."

Mingxue shook her head like a little adult: "You're welcome. Remember to bring your brother-in-law back, sister."

Feng Mingshu was slightly taken aback, and Mingyu ran over and said loudly, "Sister, don't get married. When I grow up, I will protect you!"

Feng Mingshu was both amused and exasperated. She reached out and pinched each of their tender little faces: "Don't worry about your sister's affairs. Go back to your rooms and do your homework."

"Sis, I've finished my homework."

"Sis, I've finished writing too."

"You didn't write it; you copied it from me."

"I didn't copy yours, I copied the book."

"Then you still cheated, you're a bad student!"

"I'm not!"

The twins started arguing again. Feng Mingshu didn't try to stop them; she enjoyed the lively atmosphere and wanted to protect it.

She went out with a smile on her face and ran into Uncle Li. Uncle Li offered to take her to the auditorium, but she refused and jogged to the bus stop twenty meters away.

Li Yanzhong stood at the gate of the courtyard, watching the little girl's dusty figure squeeze onto the bus. He turned around and said to Yu Jingqiu, who had arrived at some unknown time, "Ming Shu doesn't seem to want the blind date to be successful."

Yu Jingqiu watched the bus start moving and said calmly, "Whether Ming Shu wants to or not is not important. As long as she goes, some good young men will take a liking to her."

"What if Ming Shu doesn't like him anymore?" Li Yanzhong asked with some concern. He had watched the young girl grow up and always hoped that she could meet an outstanding young man who liked her and be with him.

Upon hearing this, Yu Jingqiu remained silent for a moment before saying, "If Ming Shu is getting married, I would rather she find someone who loves her than someone she likes."

Li Yanzhong moved his lips, but ultimately said nothing.

As their eyes met, Yu Jingqiu vaguely sensed something, but seeing that he didn't speak, she turned around and pushed open the courtyard gate: "You came here today because you have something to do, right? Come inside, it's too cold outside."

Li Yanzhong nodded and followed her into the house, then explained his purpose: "I recently found out about my parents. The place is quite far from Bincheng, and I may need to go there in person to confirm it."

Yu Jingqiu paused in her tea-pouring, looked up and smiled, "That's good news, congratulations."

Li Yanzhong was adopted by the Feng family, but he wasn't exactly an orphan, as he had family members he had separated from when he was young due to war. Over the years, he had been trying to find news of his family, receiving both true and false information several times, but today was the first time Li Yanzhong had seriously mentioned any leads to his family to her.

It seems highly likely that this news is true.

She put down the teapot and said, "Since the information is reliable, you should set off as soon as possible."

Hearing her urging, Li Yanzhong fell silent, his gaze falling on her beautiful face, seeing only the usual calm. He lowered his eyes and said, "It will take quite a while to get there. I want to wait until Ming Shu's marriage is settled before I set off."
