Chapter 91 The Fierce Li Family

The three sisters-in-law were all people of their word. After breakfast, they indeed took Yu Jingqiu and the twins with them, and began to show off to each family.

Of course, showing off was one aspect, but another was to integrate the mother and her three children into Lijiatun.

The mother-in-law has missed her brother-in-law for decades. Now that he has returned with his wife and children, the sisters-in-law, no matter what they have in mind, have to put on a good show.

Yu Jingqiu has managed the Feng family's business for over a decade and is well-versed in human relationships. When she talks to people, she gives them a warm and welcoming feeling. Yesterday, as soon as she arrived home, she delivered gifts to each household, all of which were practical clothes and fabrics, and she also gave the children candy.

The children had already started calling her "Auntie," wishing they could be her children.

The three sisters-in-law were both amused and annoyed. They scolded their own children and, in their hearts, accepted their new sister-in-law.

So when visiting other people's homes with their new sisters-in-law, they would do everything they could to be considerate. If they encountered someone with a foul mouth, the three sisters-in-law would take turns scolding them until they were completely bewildered.

Yu Jingqiu smiled gently, and after returning home, she became even kinder to her nephews and nieces.

Some of them have twins, and some have nephews and nieces. I read to them in my spare time.

The youngest son of the third wife was a glutton. With a White Rabbit candy in his mouth, he muttered, "Auntie, why didn't you come to our house sooner? Otherwise, I could have eaten a lot more White Rabbit candies and grown strong."

As soon as he said that, the whole room burst into laughter.

The third sister-in-law laughed in exasperation, picked up her chubby youngest son, and slapped him twice on the bottom: "You think your mother didn't raise you well? Fine, you can switch places with Er Gouzi from across the street."

The chubby boy immediately wailed, "Mom, I don't want to change! Er Gouzi isn't getting enough to eat, and he doesn't get any meat. I'll starve to death if I go there!"

"Then do you still dislike your mother?"

"I don't mind at all. Mom is the best mom, and Auntie is the best auntie too!" The chubby boy said sweetly, making sure to praise both of them.

Laughter filled the room again.

The Li family was doing well; they had built a courtyard house with four brick and tile main rooms and side rooms on the left and right, making them one of the best families in the village.

This is all thanks to Li Yanzhong's father, who was a hunter and raised three sons.

Although the old man's legs are weak and he can no longer hunt, his three sons are in their prime. Every time they go up the mountain together, they have a good catch. And because the brothers are united, they rarely get hurt. So life is getting better and better.

The three brothers were also good at dealing with people. Every time they had a harvest, they would hand over a portion to the brigade, unlike other families who would hide their harvest.

As for whether the three brothers secretly hid some, as long as no one saw it, then they didn't.

The family across the street, Er Gouzi, has a different surname, Chen. They do things in the exact opposite way to the Li family, always doing things secretly. But their child is still thin and pale. Er Gouzi often runs to the Li family's door to sniff the delicious aroma.

The Li family weren't pushovers; they knew the saying "a little kindness is appreciated, but too much kindness breeds resentment," so they would only give the Chen family children some food during festivals, which was a custom in the countryside.

Those who know etiquette will reciprocate, while those who don't, or those who are genuinely trying to take advantage, are like the Chen family.

Just then, Old Mrs. Chen was standing in her own fenced yard when she heard the laughter from across the street. She curled her lip and cursed, "What's so funny! Fourth Donkey's wife is obviously not a decent woman. They'll break up sooner or later!"

"Mom, when do you think they'll break up?" The one who asked was Chen Yuexiang, the third daughter of Old Mrs. Chen.

She had a fight with her husband yesterday and ran back to her parents' home with a bruised and swollen face. She originally wanted to bring her family to fight with her husband's family, but yesterday she saw Li Yanzhong returning home, along with a car full of luggage and packages, and a radio!

Chen Yuexiang had never seen anything so extravagant!

Her mind immediately wavered, and she lost all interest in going back to her husband's family to settle scores with him. So she stayed at her parents' home, waiting for the Li family to bring Li Yanzhong's wife to their door.

As a result, the Li family didn't come in at all; they just greeted them from the doorway!

This is disrespecting the Chen family!

Chen Yuexiang was furious, but she had fought with Li's third sister-in-law before, so she couldn't go directly to her mother's house. Instead, she set her sights on her mother.

"Mom, go take a look across the street. I didn't even get a good look at what Fourth Brother's wife looks like."

"They all have two eyes, two nostrils, and a mouth, what's there to see?" Old Chen retorted to his daughter, then suddenly seemed to remember something and looked at her suspiciously, "What kind of trick are you up to now?"

"Mom, what are you thinking? What kind of crazy ideas could I possibly have?"

"Hmph, you came from my belly, how could I not know how many tricks you have up your sleeve?"

Having been exposed by her mother, Chen Yuexiang stopped hiding it and whispered something in her mother's ear.

Old Mrs. Chen's eyes widened first, then she pointed at Chen Yuexiang with her chicken claw-like fingers: "You really are my daughter."

"Of course!" Chen Yuexiang said proudly, then grabbed her mother's arm and shook it. "Mom, you must help me. If it works out, I'll definitely take good care of you."

"Then you'd better remember what you said."

Old Mrs. Chen made her daughter make a promise again, then went inside to get some things. She then walked briskly to the opposite door and shouted at the top of her lungs, "Fourth Donkey's wife, Fourth Donkey's wife, are you there?"

The laughter inside the room stopped abruptly.

Yu Jingqiu was about to get off the kang (a heated brick bed) to greet the guests, but was stopped by Sister-in-law Li.

"Don't move, I'll go out and deal with it."

Yu Jingqiu readily agreed and sat back down, saying gently, "Then I'll have to trouble you, sister-in-law."

Sister-in-law Li gave her a "you just wait and see" look, then stepped out of the room and grabbed Old Lady Chen, who was glancing around aimlessly.

"Aunt Chen, what brings you here?"

"Hey, I just came to see Fourth Donkey's wife. Is she inside? I'll go in and check on her."

As she spoke, Old Mrs. Chen rushed towards the side room, but Sister-in-law Li stopped her, saying, "Auntie, my fourth sister-in-law is asleep. You can't go in and wake her up. You don't know, my mother-in-law dotes on my fourth sister-in-law now. If anyone offends her, she'll definitely grab a knife and start slashing them."

Old Mrs. Chen had witnessed Li's fierceness in her youth, so she was initially taken aback, then scoffed, "What kind of precious daughter-in-law is that?"

"That's because your wife isn't precious enough. She treats people like donkeys and has worked them to death. Your third son can't even get married now, can he?" Sister-in-law Li said with a smile that seemed to stab people in the heart.

Old Mrs. Chen was so angry that her face turned green: "You're making baseless accusations! My third daughter-in-law died of illness, not from overwork!"

"If you're too tired, you're bound to get sick. And if you get sick, they won't even treat you. It's pitiful," Sister-in-law Li said, shaking her head and sighing.
