After graduating from Peking University, Feng Mingshu studied abroad for two years before returning to Bincheng and becoming a teacher at the Foreign Languages Institute.
After get off work each day, I can ride my bicycle to the market to buy groceries, and I'll stop and chat with my neighbors when I run into them.
After returning home, I cooked dinner, washed the vegetables, and waited for Zhou Jinshan to come back and cook.
However, not long after, the guard answered the phone and said that Chief Zhou would not be back until later.
Feng Mingshu instructed the guards to keep an eye on Zhou Jinshan while he ate and to make sure he didn't drink too much alcohol. The guards readily agreed.
With all three of her children in college, she had no one to have dinner with, so after hanging up the phone, she decided to do something casually.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
It was late autumn, and the air got cool quickly after sunset. Feng Mingshu took a shawl and put it on, then went out into the courtyard and opened the gate. She saw a man in a suit who looked unfamiliar, so she asked, "Comrade, who are you looking for?"
The man laughed: "Miss Feng, have you forgotten me? I'm Qian Eryong from Xiaowangzhuang."
The title "young lady" had disappeared from her ears for many years, but she would still go back to Xiaowangzhuang every year, and occasionally she would hear the villagers mention Qian Eryong, saying that he had gone to Shenzhen to make a fortune.
Judging from his sophisticated attire now, he must have really made a fortune.
Feng Mingshu smiled and nodded: "So it's you. It's been many years. You've changed a lot."
"But the young lady hasn't changed at all; she's still the same as she was twenty years ago," Qian Eryong praised sincerely, his eyes filled with nostalgia.
Feng Mingshu smiled and shook her head: "Twenty years have passed, how could I not change? First of all, the way I'm addressed has to change. Don't call me Miss anymore, call me Comrade Feng."
Qian Eryong readily agreed: "Comrade Feng, I was passing by here after finishing my business today and remembered you, an old friend. So I took the opportunity to visit you and would like to invite you to have a simple meal. Is that alright?"
Seeing a hint of hesitation on her face, Qian Eryong pointed to the street corner ahead and said, "There's a newly opened Western restaurant up ahead. I heard the head chef is Italian, and the Western food is very authentic. You know, I'm just a local from the village. I'd probably make a fool of myself if I went there, so please ask Comrade Feng to take me there to broaden my horizons."
Feng Mingshu naturally knew that the Western restaurant was close to the villa, and he had even had a pleasant conversation with the Italian chef a while ago.
She didn't refuse again, and Qian Eryong was very happy. He opened the door of the black car parked by the roadside: "Comrade Feng, please get in the car."
Feng Mingshu politely declined, saying, "It's such a short distance, taking a car would be too much trouble. It's better to walk."
Qian Eryong closed the car door and said with a smile, "Whatever you say."
Three to five minutes later, they arrived at the Western restaurant and sat by the window, where they could see the fiery red maple forest outside.
The Italian chef came over to greet her, and after the meal was served, she realized that Qian Eryong's previous words were all humble expressions; he was very familiar with Western dining etiquette.
Feng Mingshu naturally didn't ask about these details, but simply ate his Western food at a leisurely pace while listening to Qian Eryong recount his entrepreneurial history.
While she was listening with great interest, Qian Eryong suddenly stopped, looked at her and asked, "Are you finding this a bit boring, or do you think I reek of money?"
She put down her coffee, smiled and shook her head: "Your experience is legendary. As for money, my family are businessmen, and my mother is still in business. I admire her very much, and I also admire all those who earn wealth legally."
The unease in Qian Eryong's eyes faded, and he smiled, with the innocence of his youth: "I am honored to be one of the people whom Comrade Feng admires."
Then, he continued to talk about his experiences.
But Feng Mingshu was slightly distracted as he looked at the streetlights outside the window. Qian Eryong immediately stopped and asked, "Comrade Feng, is something the matter? I'll take you home first, and we can meet again tomorrow."
Feng Mingshu was somewhat taken aback by what he heard. Although the two had a pleasant chat, it was just an old friend catching up. Occasionally they could chat, but meeting repeatedly would be inappropriate.
She stood up and said apologetically, "I have some things to do. I need to go home and prepare some hangover tea for my husband. I also have other plans for tomorrow, so I'm sorry."
“If tomorrow doesn’t work, then let’s do it another day. I’m going to stay in Bincheng for a while.” Qian Eryong also stood up, staring at her as he spoke, his eyes somewhat direct.
Feng Mingshu frowned slightly, and before she could refuse, a deep voice came from behind her.
“My wife has been very busy lately and doesn’t have time to socialize with a big businessman like Mr. Qian. Of course, if you want my mother-in-law Ms. Yu’s contact information, I can write it down for you now.”
As Zhou Jinshan spoke, he walked over to Feng Mingshu and reached out to straighten her shawl.
Feng Mingshu turned her head and saw that his resolute face was slightly red. She scolded him, "Have you been drinking again? I told Xiao Lin to keep an eye on you, but you didn't listen."
"I only had a little, it's nothing," Zhou Jinshan explained, his eyes overflowing with tenderness and amusement. "Walk with me for a bit, and the alcohol will dissipate."
"Let's go back and have some hangover tea first, then we can go for a walk."
"Okay, whatever you say."
Qian Eryong looked at the couple and suddenly laughed: "I'm sorry to have bothered you. I'll go settle the bill. Please feel free."
Zhou Jinshan turned his gaze to Qian Eryong and said calmly, "I have already paid the bill."
Qian Eryong's smile froze for a moment, but he quickly smiled again and politely saw the couple out of the Western restaurant.
Just as the couple left, a black car suddenly rushed over and headed straight for Qian Eryong, drawing gasps from onlookers.
Qian Eryong remained motionless, a slight smile playing on his lips, a smile that seemed both resolute and mocking.
Just as the car was about to hit him, it suddenly swerved and screeched to a stop. A woman got out of the car aggressively and grabbed Qian Eryong by the collar: "You're so sure I won't kill you, aren't you? Let me tell you, my patience has its limits. If there's a next time, I'll definitely kill you, and then kill your lover!"
Qian Eryong's previously nonchalant expression suddenly turned gloomy. He grabbed the woman's wrist, dragged her into the car, closed the door, and warned in a cold voice, "Liu Xinyi, I don't care if you cause trouble for those other girls, but you're not allowed to touch this one!"
This woman, who was nearly driven mad, was Liu Xinyi.
She traveled through time and spent eight years finally getting Qian Eryong to marry her. Then, using her knowledge from her later life, she helped Qian Eryong become one of the wealthiest men in the south, and she became his wife.
But in the past two years, she has spent every day either catching her husband cheating or on her way to catch him cheating. How could she not go crazy?
"Why? Why is she different?" Liu Xinyi asked, her eyes reddening. Then she suddenly remembered something. "I know, she's the white moonlight you've always been thinking about. Among those girls, some have faces like hers, some have eyes like hers, and some have temperaments like hers, but none of them are the real deal!"
