Chapter 148 Generous Girlfriend VS Poor Boyfriend 4
Hospital.
The weather was lovely, and sunlight streamed in through the window.
After the doctor finished his rounds, Gu Xingyuan massaged Wang Hongling's legs and asked, "How are you feeling today?"
Wang Hongling: "I'm fine, you don't need to worry about me. There are only a few days left until the New Year, right?"
Gu Xingyuan nodded.
"Do you have a girlfriend?"
Gu Xingyuan's hand paused. "Mom, you..."
Wang Hongling smiled and said, "You have a lipstick mark on your neck, and you're trying to hide it from me?"
Gu Xingyuan reached out to touch his neck.
He remembered that when he was leaving, Jiang Zhiyi stopped him in the entryway and wouldn't let him go. She insisted that he hug her for a while before she would leave. She must have secretly kissed him then. As for the lipstick mark, he didn't know if she left it on purpose or accidentally.
"Bring her over sometime so I can take a look," Wang Hongling said, secretly pleased.
Gu Xingyuan hesitated for a moment and said, "It might be inconvenient for her to come."
Wang Hongling looked somewhat forlorn. "Does she know about our family's situation now? My illness..."
Gu Xingyuan immediately saw what she was thinking. "Mom, it's not because of that. She's a good person, she doesn't look down on me. It's just that our relationship isn't very stable, and I feel like we might not be able to talk for long."
"Who would be in a relationship while thinking it won't last long? Are you stupid? Relationships take time to develop. Since you've started dating, you should be serious about the girl."
“I know,” he said.
...
Nighttime, inside the apartment.
The thick blackout curtains in the living room were all drawn, making it pitch black inside.
"Should we turn on a small light?" Gu Xingyuan asked.
Jiang Zhiyi pulled him along, saying she wanted to watch a horror movie, but the room was too dark right now, with only a little light coming from the TV screen, making it very inconvenient to move around.
"Don't turn it on, this will create a better atmosphere." Jiang Zhiyi groped her way to sit on the sofa. "Come here quickly."
Gu Xingyuan walked to the sofa, but because he couldn't see clearly, he tripped over Jiang Zhiyi's leg and fell down next to her, but fortunately he didn't get hurt.
"Are you alright?" she asked.
"I'm fine." He sat down on the sofa.
Jiang Zhiyi moved a little closer to him and leaned against him. "Let's get closer together so we won't be scared."
After a while, she started kissing him...
Gu Xingyuan acquiesced and did not make a move.
...
In the bedroom.
Jiang Zhiyi rested her head on Gu Xingyuan's slightly bent arm, and the two embraced.
With her eyes closed and her consciousness somewhat hazy, she said, "Gu Xingyuan, let's go to the hospital together to visit Auntie on New Year's Eve in a few days?"
Gu Xingyuan remained silent.
He used to spend many New Year's Eves in the hospital, but those were not pleasant experiences, and he didn't even want to think about some of them.
One Lunar New Year's Eve, he had just paid his medical bills and didn't have much money left, so he went to the supermarket and bought frozen dumplings. That evening, he and Wang Hongling ate dumplings together in the hospital room. Wang Hongling noticed that he wasn't very happy and kept saying that the dumplings tasted even better than the ones they made at home.
The next day, he returned to his rented room to get some clothes to change into for the hospital, but he had lost his keys and had to ask the landlord for a spare key.
The landlord was an elderly man who opened the door for him while muttering and cursing, saying he was bad luck, probably because he knew the man had just come back from the hospital and still smelled of disinfectant.
He spent another 50 yuan to get a key made, enough to feed him for several days. He sat in the park for a long time that day, feeling that the New Year was meaningless.
"Is it good or not?" Jiang Zhiyi asked again.
"Don't go to the hospital during the Chinese New Year," he said.
"Why can't we go? What's the big deal? We can cook at home beforehand and bring the food over. Does Auntie have any dietary restrictions? If all else fails, we can make dumplings, what do you think?"
Gu Xingyuan's gaze fell on her soft hair. After a while, he said, "Then let's make dumplings."
