Chapter 153 Undersea
Following the map's instructions, I quickly sneaked along the abandoned coastal freight railway branch line. The map information Bai Zang provided was very accurate, and this route was relatively hidden.
The collapsed concrete viaduct piers, the rusted and twisted abandoned carriages, and the bushes on both sides of the railway that had long been reduced to nothing but dead branches, all became perfect shelters.
I didn't use mirror jumps too often, as there were very few reflective objects to be found in the countryside. Fortunately, there were still some, which could shorten the distance between me and my destination to a certain extent.
The closer we got to Frost Bay, the thicker the air became. The red fog thinned out a bit, but due to the humidity, the air was still filled with grayish-white mist, and visibility dropped sharply.
The air began to be filled with an unusual fragrance that had only appeared at night before. Now it was clearly discernible during the day, a mixture of the smell of the sea and rust, penetrating into the nasal cavity through every pore, trying to stir up the hidden madness of the creatures in this area.
Fortunately, after seizing some of the power of "Gali", I will no longer be affected by this strange fragrance and will not fall into an illusion.
However, the situation is still not much better.
Although I wasn't affected by the strange fragrance, the closer I got to the port, the more I felt something was wrong.
It was somewhat similar to the crazy mumbling in my mind before, but not as intense.
Soon, I realized what was wrong. From a few moments ago, along with the sound of waves, there was a faint singing voice.
Although the singing was intermittent, it was not unpleasant. On the contrary, it was quite attractive. I stopped and looked at the sea in the distance.
However, the fog was too thick and I still couldn't see the situation on the sea surface clearly. I couldn't help but speed up and walk towards the beach.
But after taking only two steps, I suddenly stopped. Something was wrong with the singing!
Although it doesn't make people collapse like those annoying mumblings, it always attracts people to get closer involuntarily.
I rubbed my brows. It seemed this song was also connected to the anomalous unit. While it wasn't enough to completely immerse me in it, nor did it have any real negative effects on me, it was still best to be cautious.
Thinking of this, I stopped and took out a mirror from my bag. I used the mirror to reflect and replicate the surrounding scene, creating a small "virtual" world.
Then I replaced myself and the self in the mirror, letting the other "me" come to the real world to continue exploring, while I entered the mirror.
This method is very convenient. I figured it out when I was free. I only need to devote some energy to controlling my shadow to achieve a similar effect to that of a clone.
Unfortunately, I only mastered a portion of the authority related to the illusion, and I am not very skilled in using it, so I can't keep it for long.
But you can use it now, there are no side effects anyway.
Sure enough, the effect was immediate. Although the faint singing voice was still there, it was isolated by the illusory barrier and instantly became no different from ordinary singing voice.
By the time I reached Hanwan Harbor, I hadn't noticed anything unusual. It was truly just a port. There were no mysterious symbols left behind by the evil gods, no monsters, and aside from the lower visibility and a stronger aroma, there seemed to be nothing special about it.
I searched around desperately, trying to find some clues, but still found nothing.
Fortunately, I have plenty of strength and means!
Although I try to avoid using my abilities when it comes to "Gali", I have used them a few times so far without any obvious discomfort, which means that within a reasonable range, I can still use them.
After making up my mind, I opened the eyes on my arm and surveyed my surroundings.
There really wasn't any problem on shore...
In other words, the place I'm going to is really at the bottom of the sea?
Thinking of this, I cast my gaze towards the sea again. As expected, this time I saw something different.
Through the thick mist, the seawater appears to be an unnatural, deep, dark blue vortex. At its center, the outline of a large, regular stone structure can be vaguely seen underwater, which is definitely not a natural formation.
"Underwater ruins", four big words flashed through my mind.
It seems so. Above the ruins, the fog is most distorted, and the light there refracts into countless broken, bizarre fragments of illusion, sometimes like broken church stained windows, and sometimes like kaleidoscope-like rotating geometric shapes, which are very beautiful.
I exchanged with my own shadow again, came out of the mirror world, and carefully identified that the source of the "singing" came from the depths of this vortex, like a call from the abyss.
Okay, although I really don’t want to dive, I have to do it since I’m here.
I quickly donned my diving gear in the lee of the cabin. The oxygen mask blocked out most of the strange aroma, but the helmet couldn't block out the song that directly affected my soul.
Fortunately, the singing has a very weak effect on me and can be ignored. I just need to stay focused to resist it.
Taking a deep breath of oxygen with a rubbery and metallic smell, I casually threw a piece of mirror fragment nearby - I threw a lot of them along the way, all of them were my "anchor points".
I carefully slid into the freezing cold water along a steep path eroded by the sea on the edge of the cliff.
The underwater world was even more distorted and silent than the one on land. Huge, bizarrely mutated seaweed swayed like ghostly claws, and the carcasses or remains of fish hung in the water, unnaturally stiff.
I dove toward the blue vortex I remembered. The closer I got, the more pronounced the water's pull, as if pulled by an invisible hand. The "song" grew clearer underwater, no longer a fragmented cacophony, but a vast, ethereal, yet inhuman chorus. It was as if countless voices whispered the truths and falsehoods of the universe, attempting to assimilate my consciousness.
I shook my head, concentrated, and continued swimming towards my destination.
There are several collapsed concrete blocks in sight, which may be caused by the previous collapse of the dock. After bypassing these concrete piles, the underwater ruins finally appear clearly in front of us.
It is not the dilapidated shipwreck or palace imagined, but a large pit that looks simple and unpretentious.
There was nothing special in the big pit, as if it was just a naturally formed submarine basin.
The reason I can be sure this is the location of the ruins is because this pit is a mixture of false illusions and real scenes. To the naked eye, there may be no difference, but I can't hide it.
I calmed myself down and swam towards the center of the pit, destroying those illusory illusions. A real entrance to the ruins appeared in front of me.
