Chapter 21: Mist

Chapter 21: Mist

Even if there is danger, at least we have to pull her out and interrogate her personally.

I laughed at myself and quickened my pace to catch up. Seeing this, Song Nanxing sighed helplessly and followed.

Because of this little episode, we invisibly created some estrangement with Song Nanxing. We looked at each other in silence and returned to the agricultural product store we had just been to.

However, we searched around and didn't see her. Mo Junfan called out a few times tentatively, but no one responded.

Due to the roof and buildings on both sides, there was not enough light in the farmers' market. We explored it carefully, not missing any places that might be missed.

As we walked, visibility became increasingly low, and even a thin layer of fog began to spread inside the farmers' market.

Song Nanxing became increasingly irritated and could not help but remind them, "Everyone, try to stay closer together."

However, it wasn't just me. Jiang Wang and Mo Junfan obviously didn't trust him either. The three of us slightly shortened the distance between each other, but we all unconsciously moved away from him.

Song Nanxing didn't say anything, but just walked a little ahead with a serious face, his hand lightly placed on his waist.

There was a gun hidden in that location.

I glanced at him, lost in thought. This man was strange from the moment I first met him. He seemed to have no ill will towards us, yet he was hiding everything.

I have to find an opportunity to test him.

The fog was getting thicker and thicker, so thick that I couldn't even see Jiang Wang and Mo Jun next to me clearly. I could only determine their location by the sound of footsteps and vague shadows.

This fog always feels a bit unpleasant. I don’t know if it is poisonous. Fortunately, I am wearing a gas mask.

I was muttering to myself when suddenly I felt something sticky on the soles of my feet, as if I had stepped on something soft.

Did he step on a corpse?!

I was startled and looked down quickly. Under my feet was a bunch of flocs with no specific shape, like a ball of red rag.

Wait, flocs?

I suddenly realized something and quickly raised my foot to look.

I don't know when my shoes were covered with those red threads, and what's worse is that these things are spreading to my pants. Fortunately, I was wearing protective clothing, otherwise the consequences would be unimaginable.

I felt somewhat relieved, but suddenly I discovered that there was a hole in my protective suit at my ankle!

I quickly lifted up the trouser legs of my protective suit to check the situation, thinking that at least there was a layer of pants underneath. Even if the red thread-like object accidentally got into the protective suit, there would be no problem as long as I discovered it early enough.

People can't, or at least shouldn't be so unlucky...

I comforted myself in this way.

However, the facts tell me that I am just so unlucky.

The moment I lifted up my trouser leg, my heart sank. The red thread had already penetrated through. I didn't give up and lifted up the inner trouser leg as well.

I leaned in close to my calf and observed it carefully. A red thread was clinging to my skin, occasionally moving slightly. Horrified, I slapped my leg, trying to get it off. However, I discovered that the thread wasn't simply clinging to me, but had grown into my skin...

Ha, I'm really done for this time~

I was a little panicked and subconsciously wanted to call out to others, but when I looked up, I found that the thick fog had obscured any trace of others.

"Jiang Wang? Mo Junfan?"

There was no response.

"Song Nanxing?"

Still no response.

I glanced down at my leg again. Aside from the red streak, there was nothing else unusual. I rummaged through my EDC gear, found a lighter, gritted my teeth, and aimed the flame at the spot on my leg where the red streak had attached itself.

The flame jumped up and burned my legs, causing a burning pain. Fortunately, the red thread seemed to be burned away by the fire, and it was actually burned away.

Without bothering to look for other people, I quickly pulled on my trouser legs, tied up the holes in my protective suit, and turned to walk towards the exit.

The most urgent thing now is to leave this damn place first. Wasting more time here will only make it more dangerous.

As visibility had dropped to less than one meter, I couldn't tell the direction and could only walk back based on my feeling.

I took out my phone and sent a message to Jiang Wang. A small circle on the screen spun around and around, and finally turned into a red exclamation mark.

I clicked it a few more times, with the same result.

I had no choice but to put my phone away and quicken my pace.

Like this fog, a strong sense of uneasiness enveloped my heart. I tried hard to identify the direction, but I couldn't see the exit.

I don’t know if it was a psychological effect or something else, but my left calf felt itchy, so I had to lift up my trouser leg again.

This sight made my heart sink even more. There were light red vein-like lines under the skin of my left leg, spreading up along my calf.

I looked around and saw that the fog was thicker and visibility was getting lower and lower. I took out the remaining half bottle of water in my bag, poured it all on my legs and rubbed them vigorously.

I don't know if this will work, but at least it will make me feel a little better mentally.

After doing all this, I stood up again and continued to move forward. I took out my cell phone to check the time. 15 minutes had passed, but I still didn’t see the exit. I couldn’t think of any other possibility except that I went in the wrong direction.

I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself. Panic would only make things worse. I had to calm down and think of a solution.

I closed my eyes and listened carefully to the sounds around me. Apart from the sound of my breathing and heartbeat, the surroundings were eerily quiet.

There was not even the sound of rain.

In desperation, I had to continue groping forward in a certain direction. As long as I reached the edge, even if the direction was wrong, I could still explore along the edge and I would always be able to get out.

As I walked, I paid attention to the changes in my body, but apart from a little itchiness, I didn't feel any discomfort.

Maybe there is still hope. I kept comforting myself and kept moving forward.

I don’t know how long I walked. I felt a little tired and looked around, but still couldn’t tell where I was. I even suspected that I might have left the farmer’s market, but I didn’t know it.

I felt a sharp pain in my leg, so I sat down on the ground, lifted up my trouser leg and took a look. The blood vessel-like thing was still spreading upwards. Judging from the location of the pain, I estimated that it had reached my thigh.

I rummaged through my bag, pulled out a triangular bandage and tied it around my thigh, praying that it wouldn't spread any further.

I opened my phone again to check the time, and it had been 50 minutes since I discovered that I was stained with this red thread.

I sent the message again. After the small circle next to the chat box turned for a long time, it indicated that the message was sent successfully.

After taking a short rest for a few minutes to recover some strength, I adjusted my condition, stood up and continued to grope forward.
