Chapter 23 The protagonist is alive again
At this moment, a series of orderly long and short sounds rang in my ears.
"Ji Ling."
My name?
It suddenly occurred to me that this was the Morse code frequency.
It was as if a crack was opened in the endless darkness, and a faint light seeped in from the crack.
A breeze blew by, blowing away the inexplicable things in my mind. My consciousness gradually returned and my vision gradually became clear.
I tried hard to open my eyes and finally saw the person in front of me clearly.
An Xiaowei?!
How could it be her?
Seeing me wake up, An Xiaowei smiled at me as usual and said, "Ji Ling, are you feeling better?"
I was a little confused about the current situation.
Looking around, I found that I was still inside the farmer's market. The thick fog had not lightened at all, but I could actually see everything under the fog through it, and even vaguely see the exit of the farmer's market.
The originally thick fog seemed to have turned into a transparent film at this moment.
"Ji Ling?" An Xiaowei called me again.
I came back to my senses and answered in a daze: "Huh?"
At the same time, I noticed her eyes. Her eyes were the same as always, gentle and always caring, as if they had some kind of captivating power that always made people feel at ease.
But for some reason, this time when I looked into her eyes, I felt a little repulsive.
I suddenly recalled what happened before I fell into a coma. Damn, I think I was infected!
Without bothering to respond to An Xiaowei's words, I quickly rolled up my sleeves and looked at my arms. Strangely, my arms were intact. If I had to say anything different, it was that my skin was light pink, like new flesh.
I pulled up my trouser legs again and looked at my feet. Just like my arms, there was nothing but slightly pink skin.
?????
What's going on?
As if seeing my confusion, An Xiaowei smiled and said, "Don't worry, nothing's wrong with you."
I nodded, but I silently put up a layer of defense in my heart. It was too strange. If An Xiaowei's attempt to smother me last time was an illusion, then how do I explain her inexplicable disappearance and reappearance this time?
Besides... I'm a little concerned about what I heard just before I fell into a coma.
"Where did you go just now? We were all looking for you." I pretended to look at her with a reproachful expression.
"Just when I was halfway through my run, I realized that you had disappeared, and then the fog started to rise. I looked for you for a long time." An Xiaowei replied without a trace of flaw on her face.
I sighed and looked around for the Miao Dao, but I said, "Where's my phone?"
"Did you lose it accidentally? The signal is so bad now, it's useless to carry your phone." An Xiaowei shrugged.
I stared at her for a while without saying anything.
"What's wrong?" An Xiaowei smiled.
I lowered my head, rubbed my temples, and said a little confusedly, "I remember I seemed to be infected."
As I said this, I secretly glanced at An Xiaowei's reaction.
A frightened expression appeared on her face. She swallowed and took two steps back to distance herself from me: "You...you don't scare me."
This performance was flawless.
I lowered my eyes and put on a thoughtful expression: "I just had a very strange dream. I might have fallen into an illusion."
"What dream?"
"I can't remember clearly. It's very confusing. I only remember that I was clearly infected and even died, but..."
"But what!" An Xiaowei was a little anxious. She took a step forward and stared at me without caring about her fear.
I closed my eyes and put on a pious expression:
“The Lord alone is supreme, the Lord alone is exalted.”
“Almighty and all-loving, most holy and pure God.”
Fortunately, I joined the drama club in college, and my acting skills have reached their peak now.
As expected, An Xiaowei's face lit up with joy, and she excitedly stepped forward and took my hand:
"Ji Ling, you just said you dreamed of a god?"
I nodded and continued, "But this is the strangest part. I'm an atheist, and I've never had a dream like this before."
"Maybe there really are gods in this world?" An Xiaowei stared into my eyes with such a deep look that I was momentarily dazed.
The next second I suddenly came to my senses, and at the same time, I finally understood why I had a strange feeling every time I saw her eyes these days.
Every time I see her eyes, I can't help but believe her, but many of her actions don't make sense logically.
Some bits and pieces of things that happened in the past suddenly emerged in my mind one by one, not only the last time she tried to smother me, but also before that.
In the Information Building, An Xiaowei was not among those people who were sleepwalking on the first night.
On the second night, the door to my room was inexplicably broken open in the middle of the night. The doors to the other rooms were intact, so why was it the one she and I were staying in? Who could have such strength?
And when I was slandered as the murderer, she said only a few words and easily changed other people's tone. Even if people followed the crowd, it was too sudden for her to get rid of my suspicion with just those few words.
Her shadow can be seen in all the unreasonable places, and as soon as she appears, those things that are obviously illogical will be ignored.
"Ji Ling, you are lying to me, right?"
An Xiaowei's expression suddenly turned cold, and her eyes stared at me, as if she wanted to explore something.
"You're lying to me too, aren't you?" I looked her straight in the eyes.
An Xiaowei chuckled and said with a somewhat regretful tone:
"You are special. I really think of you as a friend. It's a pity that you are as stupid as your parents."
My parents? I caught the message in her words.
"Do you know my parents?" I stepped forward to ask clearly.
"Not only do I know them, I'm also very familiar with them." An Xiaowei had a very happy smile on her face. She leaned back and looked at me with an expression as if she was watching a show.
"You must have a lot of questions right now, and I can tell you everything: about your parents, about the end of the world, about yourself..."
"I can also give you the power to survive the apocalypse, so you don't have to worry about being attacked by those monsters..."
"As long as... you join the Lord's embrace, all of this can be perfectly resolved."
An Xiaowei's voice was full of bewitching power, which made me waver for a moment.
"So good?" I asked her with interest.
"Of course! The Lord is the true God who will come at the end of the world. Only He can guide us! Only He can bring salvation to mankind!" An Xiaowei's tone was crazy, and her voice was also trembling with suppressed excitement.
"Oh, sounds like a cult," I scoffed.
There was a crack in An Xiaowei's expression, and her eyes were fierce, staring at me so hard that it made my spine chill.
A sticky reddish-brown blood-like liquid appeared under her feet and moved towards me.
Holy shit, you're already broken by just saying a word about a cult? If you can't afford it, don't play!
