Chapter 35 Encounter

Chapter 35 Encounter

We got in the car, and the closer we got to the western suburbs, the stronger the feeling of unease became.

I glanced at the ground and saw a variety of traces. Not just human footprints, but also traces of other things I couldn't identify. All of these footprints pointed in the same direction—Ankang Sanatorium.

At this moment, a strange noise came from nearby, as if something was approaching at a very fast speed.

The captain turned around and gave everyone a wink, signaling them to prepare for battle. Everyone got out of the car and took cover, leaving only a few people to drive a car not far away to provide support.

I held my breath and looked in the direction where the sound was approaching.

As the sound got closer, a twisted humanoid monster appeared from behind a building. It was called a humanoid monster, but it had six arms and saliva kept coming out of its mouth, which was very disgusting.

The thing approached at an extremely fast speed and crawled towards the western suburbs.

We can’t let that thing get close to the western suburbs. The captain made a gesture, and a gunshot was heard. A sniper hidden somewhere fired a shot, blowing the monster in the head.

However, before we could breathe a sigh of relief, a louder noise was heard in the distance.

Judging from the sound, it’s a group.

"Get ready," the captain whispered.

Every member of the task force was on high alert.

To be honest, I was a little nervous. Although it was not the first time I faced these monsters, it was the first time I participated in such a battle, and on such a large scale.

On the main road, a group of strange-looking creatures appeared from the end of the road. The monsters came like a tide, unstoppable.

"Open fire!" With the captain's order, each unit quickly adjusted its formation and suppressed those things with firepower.

Monsters were constantly being pierced, falling down, and then wriggling to their feet. New monsters kept appearing from all directions, and it seemed that they would never be defeated.

Our team members were also constantly getting injured and falling down.

This was a real battlefield, different from any other battle I'd ever had with monsters.

The smell of blood stimulated my nerves, and the impulse that I had suppressed with great difficulty seemed to be awakened and began to stir in my body again.

I calmed myself down and continued shooting.

However, there were too many monsters, and many mutant creatures had already reached the front, so the fire suppression had little effect.

Many team members began to engage in close combat with the monsters.

Fortunately, the number of these things is getting smaller and smaller. I suppressed the unspeakable urge and pinched myself.

At this moment, a long centipede-like insect came towards me, and I narrowly avoided it.

Before I could even breathe a sigh of relief, a cry from one of the team members drew my attention.

At the end of the road, a large number of monsters came out again.

"Fuck, it's never going to end, is it?"

Song Nanxing also noticed the situation at the end of the road and couldn't help but blurt out a Chinese quintessence.

"Captain, we can't hold on any longer! Let's retreat to the western suburbs!" Someone said.

To make matters worse, I discovered I was out of bullets! Without time to think, I pulled out my Miao Dao and scratched my palm. The blood-stained knife seemed to be activated. As the blood slid down the blade, the cloud-lightning pattern on the handle flashed with a dark light.

While I was keeping an eye on the monsters' movements with my keen senses, I spared no effort to kill the monsters that were already in front of me and had no way to escape.

The monsters' blood sprayed onto my goggles, and the heady smell filled my nostrils.

My temples started throbbing, the feeling seemed familiar, but more intense than any before.

Two thoughts that did not belong to me were pulling at each other in my mind without any warning. The scene in front of me gradually became blurred, but I still saw that others were fighting desperately.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain on my back, as if something had scratched it.

Soon, more and more pain came. Although I was not conscious enough, every pain from my skin told me that I was being attacked by a monster.

There seemed to be something blocking my throat, so I coughed and a warm and sticky liquid flowed out of my throat, soaking my mask and flowing down my neck.

The pain from the outside world and from within my body made me miserable.

Endless agony enveloped me, like countless torrents roaring past my ears. My vision faded into darkness, and I heard myself fall to the ground. The pain all around me and the noise in my ears grew stronger.

The crazy whispers that came from nowhere exploded in my mind. I couldn't hear what the voice was saying, but I could feel that I seemed to be being controlled.

My head started to ache again. I felt that I was sometimes clear-headed and sometimes confused, but a voice sounded in my heart for no reason.

"You are a mutated monster." This was the only voice I heard clearly. It didn't belong to anything else. I was very familiar with this voice—it was my own voice.

No, wait…

I subconsciously wanted to reject this voice, but it sounded again.

"Don't think you're a hero. Monsters should behave like monsters."

At the same time, I felt my skin begin to move, as if something wanted to break out of my body.

Wait...at least not now...

"You are not human...you are not a monster...no one will accept you..."

"Destroy them, destroy everything, including yourself."

No... hold on a little longer...

In the endless darkness, the noise in my ears seemed to never end.

I propped myself up and stood up, letting the inexplicable thoughts in my body grow wildly.

The wound was itchy and I couldn't help but scratch it. My nails dug deep into the flesh and waves of sharp pain invaded me.

In addition to the pain, there seemed to be a force that did not belong to me running around in my body. Even though I didn't know what it was, I could still feel that it was very violent and almost exploded me from the inside out.

My skin was tearing with pain, and my vision finally became clearer, but the vision was a little strange.

Not only was my field of vision narrower than usual, it also seemed lower. I couldn't see clearly, only vaguely making out the distorted shadows of the people and monsters around me. Strangely, they all seemed to be taller than me.

I turned my eyes and looked to the side. I didn't know whose waist was next to me, but there was a dagger stuck on the belt - my dagger.

Soon, I realized where this strange feeling came from. It was not my eyes that saw these scenes.

Or rather, not the eyes I normally use.

In order to confirm my guess, I tried to touch my arm, and in my vision, a bloody hand trembled and touched me. I subconsciously closed my eyes, and my fingers gently touched my eyelids.

The eye that grew out of my left arm!

The fear in my head exploded and I screamed in terror.
