Chapter 45: Church

Chapter 45: Church

After Chen Yubing spoke, the other people also turned their eyes to me at the same time. I don’t know if it was my illusion, but I always felt a little creepy being stared at by them.

"Nothing, I just feel like there's nothing unusual." I shook my head and replied with a smile, trying to act natural enough.

It is still unclear what is going on, so we cannot act rashly.

In such a clueless situation, I'd better protect myself first. It would be better to pretend that I didn't notice anything, figure out the situation secretly, and then find a chance to slip away.

Song Nanxing looked around and turned back to me with some disdain, "What abnormality can you find just by looking at it like this? Are you planning to desert?"

"I'm a coward..." I shrank my head and made a scared expression.

Seeing that he wasn't wavering, I continued my acting: "I've barely made it to this day, and this is a Level I investigation mission... I'm a little nervous."

At this time, "Chen Yubing" stepped forward, patted my shoulder, and said gently and comfortingly, "I understand you're nervous about your first cross-level mission, but it's okay, we will protect you."

It's really awkward no matter how I look at it. If they were in person, they would probably remind me to protect myself.

"Wait, what is this?" The "Steel Lord" on the side suddenly looked somewhere. Just behind the dusty instrument, there was a wall whose color was slightly different from the surrounding area.

Song Nanxing followed his gaze, took two steps to the side, and turned back to say, "There seems to be a secret compartment here. Push it open and take a look."

Everyone stepped forward and started moving the instrument.

I stood there, pretending to roll up my sleeves to help, but in fact I was waiting for an opportunity to open my arms' eyes.

Perhaps another eye could reveal something?

However, before I could open the eyes on my arm, they had already moved the instrument over, revealing a secret door at the back.

"Song Nanxing" pushed the door tentatively, and the secret door opened.

The men looked at each other, and "Song Nanxing" hesitated and said, "Let's go in and take a look?"

As they said this, several people turned around to look at me again.

I felt a little nervous when they were staring at me. If I ran now, I would probably be surrounded. I was not sure about their fighting strength yet, and I couldn't show too much hesitation, so I had to follow them quietly.

Behind the secret door was a long corridor with a worn-out kerosene lamp at intervals on both sides.

We just walked in silence, with people in front and behind me, as if they were afraid that I would run away. In this narrow place, I had no chance.

After thinking about it, I let down my sleeves. My inner clothes were not very thick, so if I let down one layer, it would not only hide my identity and give me a chance to open my eyes, but also allow me to vaguely see the surrounding environment through the clothes.

Although I don’t know if this eye can see the unusual aspects of this mirrored world, it is my only reliance at the moment.

That's right, since I came here, I found that I couldn't feel the Morse code prompts at all.

Could it be that the world in the mirror can block even such secret things?

After walking for a while, we finally reached the end of the corridor. There was still a door at the end, but it looked very shabby.

"Song Nanxing" pushed open the door, and the world behind the door suddenly came into view.

I thought there would be a small space behind the door, or perhaps some mutated monsters or something scary.

But to my surprise, there was a rather spacious place behind the door. There were quaint candlesticks hanging on the walls, and the windows on both sides were made of colored glass arranged into classical patterns. The faint light coming in from outside gave it a somewhat charming feel.

Looking up, I saw that the roof was very high, with a magnificent ceiling painting on it.

The layout of the entire venue is like a church. If there is anything wrong, it is that the lighting is too dim.

Before the end of the world, I visited some churches. Those churches were either decorated magnificently or gave people a sacred and warm feeling.

But this church was very dim even with candles lit on both sides.

There are benches and tables neatly arranged on both sides of the church, and many believers in white robes are bowing their heads in prayer.

Right in front of the church, there is a jade platform with a very small statue on it, only as big as my arm.

I just froze there.

The statue was covered with cracks and looked like it would break into pieces in the next second. A piece of the statue's head was missing. There was a candle lit on each side of the statue. The flickering candlelight made the statue's face flicker, looking very strange.

"Broken Idol"!

The statue seemed to have some kind of magic that attracted my attention and forced me to look at it.

I pinched my fingers subconsciously, calmed myself down, and looked back at "Song Nanxing" and the others. "Song Nanxing" was staring at the statue and didn't seem to be too surprised. The same was true for the others.

At this time, a clergyman came over and saluted us very humbly and politely, saying, "Welcome, distinguished guests. Please follow me."

The fake teammates nodded and followed the clergyman, while I walked slowly at the end.

I opened the eyes on my arms and looked carefully at the surrounding environment through my clothes. Sure enough, the whole vision felt distorted and unreal, but the whole scene was a completely enclosed space and there was no breakthrough.

I glanced at the other teammates and they didn't seem to notice me dawdling behind them.

In this way, I gradually increased the distance between me and them and moved closer to the small door.

It just so happened that "Song Nanxing" and the others had followed the clergy to a large archway and were about to turn a corner. I just had to catch them turning to leave the hall and slip out through the small door.

Having made up my mind, I backed away little by little, getting closer and closer to the small door.

As they left the hall, I quickly turned the doorknob behind me and retreated back into the kerosene-lit corridor.

After taking a look at the road I came from, I breathed a sigh of relief and walked back without stopping.

As long as we go back to the mirrored chemical plant at the beginning, we should be able to find a way out.

Thinking of this, I couldn't help but quicken my pace.

I was getting closer and closer to the door I came from. I couldn't wait to open the secret door and step out.

What caught my eye was not the chemical plant, but the clergyman. Behind him, there were a few people, including the fake Song Nanxing, who were walking towards me.

My chest suddenly trembled, and I hurriedly turned around to look at where I came from. This sight almost made me break out in a cold sweat.

There is no secret door at the back. Behind me is a huge statue.

When the Ming clergyman saw me, he smiled warmly again.

"My dear guest, the church has a complex terrain. You will get lost if you run around alone."
