Chapter 63: The Secret Hidden in the Teddy Bear

Chapter 63: The Secret Hidden in the Teddy Bear

Returning to the apartment where I originally lived, compared to the period just after the apocalypse, there was no longer any bloody smell in the corridor. There was only a smell of dust and decay, indicating that no living thing had been here for a long time.

The elevator was completely broken, so I could only go up through the corridor. The corridor was pitch black and there was no light source. Fortunately, with my enhanced perception, I was able to confirm the environment through my senses in such darkness.

I went all the way up to the fifth floor. The door lock of the house where I used to live was completely broken and the door was wide open.

I walked in with mixed feelings.

The room was in a mess, as if it had been turned over by something. I guess it was monsters or other survivors who turned it over later.

When I walked to the bedroom, the door was also open and it was a mess inside. To my surprise, the door was not broken and could be locked.

That's good, at least I can rest in the bedroom.

After a rough inspection of the room, there was nothing special except that it had been turned over.

When I passed by the refrigerator, I saw a pool of dried water under it. I guess it was caused by a power outage.

When I opened it casually, I was hit by a foul smell and maggots crawling around. I couldn't help but frown. The meat that was frozen inside had already gone bad. Fortunately, I live alone for a long time and don't freeze a lot of meat, so there are not many maggots.

I suppressed my nausea and took out the plastic bag containing the meat. I paused a second before closing the refrigerator door and suddenly realized something was wrong.

I was in a hurry to leave, so I didn't take the food out of the refrigerator. There were a lot of ready-to-eat convenience foods frozen in it. After so long, these ready-to-eat foods were still in their original places in the refrigerator, not missing at all, and there was not even a sign of being turned over.

I turned around and looked around the room again. The messy room contrasted with the neatly arranged refrigerator.

Maybe a monster had been here. After all, monsters wouldn't rummage through the refrigerator. To be on the safe side, I decided to check it again.

After getting rid of the rotten and spoiled food in the refrigerator, I looked around the room again. The places that had been turned over were mainly in the bookcases and drawers.

The doubts in my heart grew deeper.

If it was a monster, would it be rummaging around in these places? It was like it was searching for something specifically.

Back in the bedroom, I was careful and didn't miss any clues during this inspection. This inspection really made me discover something different.

There is a footprint on the edge of my bedside table. It has been so long that even the footprint is covered with a layer of dust. It is difficult to notice if you don’t look carefully.

The owner of the footprints has feet that are slightly larger and wider than mine, so they must be men's footprints.

I stood at the location of the footprints, squatted down in the same direction as the footprints, and opened the drawer of the bedside table.

Sure enough, it was a mess. While I was tidying up the drawer, I recalled what was in it before. Strangely, there was nothing missing from the drawer.

I can be sure that I am not overthinking it. After I left, someone must have come back in looking for something, but nothing was missing. There is only one possibility: this person did not find what he wanted.

This can be divided into two situations. Either I really don’t have this kind of thing at home, or I do have it at home, but he just didn’t find it.

But I prefer the second one.

But this raises a new question: who is this person and what does he want to find?

I have to find this thing first, but even so, I don't even know what I'm looking for, so I have no idea where to start.

I sat on the bed for a while, not knowing what to do.

I scratched my head in annoyance and looked at the sky. It was already bright, but I hadn't slept all night, building walls and looking for things, so I really didn't have the energy to think about these things.

"Now that things have come to this, let's go to sleep."

I muttered to myself, then began to rummage through the closet to find a clean mattress and quilt to change into, then I picked up the dusty, worn-out teddy bear that had been placed next to my pillow and patted it.

The teddy bear's little skirt was extremely dirty. I picked it up and looked at it from left to right. I felt uncomfortable because of the dirtiness.

Although this toy bear is very old, it was left to me by my mother. From childhood to adulthood, it has become my only thought about my family.

Fortunately, my mother had sewed a few small replacement clothes for the teddy bear at that time. I recalled a little and took out a small piece of clothing from a box in the drawer of the wardrobe and put it on the teddy bear.

The teddy bear had a big head, so it was a little difficult for me to put it on. I pinched its body tightly and stuffed it into the clothes.

At this moment, I suddenly felt a hard object in the bear's body, which was a bit prickly.

In fact, I had touched it before. Although I was curious, I was reluctant to destroy it because it was left to me by my mother.

But at this moment, a light bulb suddenly lit up in my head. This teddy bear was left to me by my mother. Could there be something hidden inside?

Thinking of this, I stared at the little bear for a while. The toy bear had a smiling face sewn crookedly on its mouth with needle and thread, and its eyes were made of buttons. In this case, it looked a little scary, but it was my only toy in my childhood.

"I'm sorry, my good friend!" I gritted my teeth and whispered to the toy bear.

Then he pulled out a dagger from his waist and cut open the bear's body.

The cotton inside was old and yellow, so I dug into the bear's body and pulled the cotton out.

Sure enough, there was something like a lump of iron in this ball of cotton. I cleaned out the lump of iron and held it in my hand to examine it carefully.

It is not quite accurate to call it an iron lump. To be precise, it looks a bit like a piece of meteorite fragment. The surface is bumpy and only one side is smooth, like the traces of artificial cutting.

On the smooth side, there is a small relief pattern, a pattern that I am very familiar with - cloud and thunder pattern!

The next second, I suddenly reacted and grabbed the Miao Dao. The relief on the meteorite was raised, while the cloud and thunder pattern on the Miao Dao was concave, one engraved in negative and the other in positive!

With the mentality of giving it a try, I inlaid the embossed side of the meteorite into the cloud and thunder pattern of the Miao Dao.

Fits perfectly!

Just as I placed the meteorite into the Miao Dao Yunlei groove, my head suddenly started to ache for no reason and my vision became blurred.

Then it seemed as if countless images kept switching in my mind, accompanied by the long-lost tinnitus with a frequency like Morse code. However, the severe pain in my head and the pounding heart made it impossible for me to interpret the message conveyed by this tinnitus.

Before I lost consciousness, I subconsciously held the Miao Dao tightly in my hand.
