Chapter 8: Second Night (1)

Chapter 8: Second Night (1)

"I believe her."

An Xiaowei walked out of the crowd, and I couldn't help but notice that her body was clean, without a trace of blood.

"Who knows if you are in cahoots with her?" Some people in the crowd were still unconvinced.

"Like she said, we can apply to see the surveillance footage. I believe such a large building must have surveillance cameras. The surveillance footage can't be fake."

An Xiaowei continued to walk over to me and stood shoulder to shoulder with me, saying to everyone, "We're still not sure if that monster is a zombie. Even if it is, I'm right in front of Ji Ling now. If she's mutated, why didn't she attack me?"

After saying that, An Xiaowei raised her eyes, and her beautiful eyes glanced at the crowd calmly, and the restless crowd gradually quieted down.

After a brief silence, someone in the crowd began to respond: "Yes, just look at the surveillance footage and you'll know."

“I don’t know the full story, so I won’t comment.”

"Well, we can't slander good people. The staff will definitely check the surveillance."

In just two minutes, the tide had turned. Those who had initially confidently claimed to have heard the noise yesterday were now saying, "Until we know the full story, we won't comment."

I suddenly found it a little funny, as if the safest thing in the world is to make yourself disappear among the "majority" and hide in the crowd, so that you can gain absolute safety armor and then unscrupulously wave the so-called "justice" knife at others.

After a while, the staff opened the door and announced something with a strange look on their faces: "From now on, no one is allowed to leave their living area."

After saying that, the staff member hurried away, as if he was afraid of something, and then the sound of the room door being locked was heard.

People looked at each other, and no one reacted for a moment.

My heart sank to the bottom all of a sudden.

This is bad. The staff must have checked the surveillance video and saw yesterday's scene, so they locked everyone up.

"What's going on? Why are you suddenly not allowed to move?"

"Is it true that there are mutants sneaking in?"

After people realized what was happening, they began to talk among themselves, and an uneasy atmosphere filled the crowd.

The situation in the boys' dormitory next door was probably similar, with someone banging on the door and shouting impatiently.

An Xiaowei glanced at me and asked me, "What should we do now?"

I shook my head. To be honest, I had no idea about this situation. The only thing I was sure of was that I absolutely could not stay here until night.

My cell phone suddenly vibrated. I took it out and saw that it was a message from Jiang Wang. When we first arrived at the Information Building, we had exchanged contact information with each other.

It took a long time for the message to be sent. Ever since the series of strange changes began, the mobile phone signal has become very unstable. Fortunately, communication can still be maintained.

"How's the situation over there?"

"It's locked up."

"We are the same. Mo Junfan and I were even considered the murderers."

"Same. We have to find a way. We can't stay in the dorm."

I replied briefly and sat back on the bed to think.

Judging from the current situation, this group of people are normal for the time being, but no one knows when that smell will come. Once the people here fall into hallucinations again, the situation may be more dangerous than yesterday.

Thinking of this, I glanced at the direction of the door. There was a handle on the door. If I wanted to destroy the lock core, I might need to remove the handle, or I could only force the door open. Either of these two options would cause a lot of noise.

"What's wrong? You don't look well." An Xiaowei sat next to me and asked with concern.

"I'm thinking about how to get out." I answered truthfully.

"Are you afraid that yesterday's murderer is still in the crowd?" An Xiaowei thought thoughtfully.

"Yes, you saw the miserable state of that man." I didn't dare to tell her about what happened yesterday. After thinking about it, I just added: "Don't take off your gas mask tonight."

An Xiaowei stared at me for a while and asked me: "Ji Ling, do you know something?"

I shook my head. "It's not certain yet. The only thing that's certain is that it will be safer if you wear a gas mask."

"I believe you." An Xiaowei smiled broadly and patted my shoulder.

I took out a piece of compressed biscuit from my backpack and drank it with mineral water. I also took out some light equipment and anti-inflammatory drugs and put them in my bag. I also charged my mobile phone and prepared for the coming night.

What followed was a somewhat agonizing wait. People in the room were either sitting or standing, some chatting in low voices, and some took out their phones and anxiously scrolled through them from time to time. Those who had initially been clamoring to leave gradually quieted down because no one paid any attention to them.

An Xiaowei was also feeling a little uneasy sitting next to me, looking towards the door from time to time.

I was a little confused and asked her, "What are you looking at?"

"I'm wondering if I can force open this door." An Xiaowei stared at the door and continued, "Staying here all the time isn't a solution. To be honest, that corpse this morning... I'm a little scared..."

I nodded in agreement. I was also afraid of what would happen tonight. How could I survive tonight? How could I get out of here? This series of things made me feel a little breathless.

After a long time, I walked to the wall and looked at my mobile phone. The battery was almost charged and the time was exactly ten o'clock in the morning.

The staff hasn't opened the door since we were locked up.

I didn’t sleep last night and I’m starting to feel sleepy now. My eyelids feel heavy and I can’t help yawning.

"Xiaowei, take a rest first. No matter what the situation is, it is important to conserve your energy." I suggested.

An Xiaowei nodded and sat back down on the bed where she slept to rest. I also lay back down on the bed. After thinking about it, I decided to put on the gas mask. The gas mask didn't affect my breathing, and I wouldn't feel stuffy even when I rested with it on. However, I was a little uncomfortable sleeping with something on my head.

Maybe I was really tired. Although my nerves were tense, I fell asleep without realizing it.

"Bang!"

What woke me up was a loud noise, and when I opened my eyes, it was already dark.

I didn't dare to act rashly. I looked up and saw that the room was empty.

Even An Xiaowei is missing!
