Chapter 36: Sword of Dawn
Fear shattered the last bit of sanity I had barely managed to hold on to.
The power in my body could no longer be suppressed, and I opened the eyes on my arms again, staring at everything on the battlefield, and my vision became clearer.
Everyone's movements seemed to slow down at this moment, and I could even predict their next move.
I picked up the knife on the ground with my right hand and slashed at the monster on the field.
My mind was in a mess and I couldn't care about anything else. There was only one thought in my mind.
Kill everyone here.
The desire to kill grew wildly in my chest and could no longer be suppressed.
I don’t know how many monsters I killed, and then I set my sights on those fully armed people.
Gripping the knife tightly in my hand, I chopped at the person closest to me.
Just as the blade was about to hit the man, a powerful airflow hit me and knocked me away.
The ground where I was originally standing cracked radially.
Chen Yubing stood there looking at me coldly. Around her, there was a layer of invisible airflow, which surrounded her whole body and formed a defensive shield.
The next second, she moved in front of me and grabbed my neck, and I couldn't move.
"Do you think you're the only one like this? Look at this battlefield, look at the others!"
Her words seemed to have awakened a bit of rationality, and I turned my head to look around.
Many people died, and the remains of humans and monsters were scattered everywhere. There were still dying people crawling among the broken limbs and arms, their clothes soaked with blood.
The survivors pulled the triggers recklessly, firing all kinds of light and heavy weapons at full speed. When they ran out of bullets, they engaged in hand-to-hand combat, unwilling to retreat even a little, determined to fight to the last second.
I vaguely saw despair and hope intertwined in their eyes through the goggles.
Turning around again, Song Nanxing was confronting a huge ball of flesh. The ball of flesh was wriggling over the debris on the ground and approaching Song Nanxing covered with broken flesh, pus and blood.
At this time, Song Nanxing's mask had long fallen away. I vaguely saw that the tattoo on his neck was constantly expanding and had spread from his neck to his face.
The flesh ball made a creepy "gurgling" sound, as if mocking Song Nanxing's situation. Pus and unknown liquid oozed from its surface from time to time, emitting a disgusting stench.
Song Nanxing's eyes became extremely sharp, his body seemed to swell, his muscles were trembling violently, stretching his clothes. I noticed that his tattoos not only spread to his face, but his body was also covered with blood vessel-like lines.
The color of the pattern was darker than before, as if it contained some mysterious power.
Suddenly, Song Nanxing moved.
His body rushed towards the ball of flesh like lightning, so fast that I could hardly see clearly. He clenched his right fist and smashed it hard on the surface of the flesh.
"Bang!" With a loud bang, the meatball was smashed into a large dent. A normal person simply couldn't have such strength.
However, the meatball did not die immediately, but instead let out an even more shrill scream. Its body began to twist violently, trying to break free from Song Nanxing's restraints.
Song Nanxing didn't give the meatball any chance. He launched continuous attacks, hitting the target accurately every time. The meatball's screams became quieter and quieter, and the twisting of its body became weaker and weaker.
Finally, under Song Nanxing's continuous attacks, the meatball could no longer hold on and exploded with a loud bang. Fragments and internal organs splattered everywhere, dyeing the surrounding area blood red.
The focus shifted, and it was not just Chen Yubing and Song Nanxing. Half of the Dawn Sword team members showed a side that was different from that of ordinary people to a greater or lesser extent.
Some people's bodies have even become twisted and weird, no different from monsters.
The monster-like member of the "Sword of Dawn" team was covered in wounds. His eyes seemed to be pierced by something, and unusual black blood was flowing out of his wounds.
He staggered to his feet, raised one arm high, and shouted:
"Behind us is the Western Suburbs Shelter!"
"We are humanity's last line of defense!"
This voice belongs to the captain, and this monster-like "Sword of Dawn" belongs to the captain.
For some reason, I suddenly calmed down. The smell of blood still stimulated me, and the desire in my heart was still there.
But something seemed to become firm.
So what if I turned into a monster? At least I could still keep my sanity, at least I wasn't alone.
At least, what I'm doing is meaningful.
Because we are the "Sword of Dawn"!
"I understand." I turned around and said to Chen Yubing.
Gripping the knife tightly in my hand, I joined the battle again.
Unlike before, this time, without any external force, I suppressed the power running rampant in my body and swung the knife forward.
As if inspired by the captain's words, the rest of the people cheered themselves up and threw themselves into the fierce battle again.
Chen Yubing's figure glided past me, the Tang sword in her hand piercing the chest of a mutant like lightning. I followed closely behind, cleaving the monster in two before it could recover.
At this moment, a strong sense of crisis came over me, and something seemed to appear silently behind me.
The way that thing appeared was very secretive, and even with my senses heightened, I didn't even notice it at all!
The next second, a black shadow appeared in front of us. The shadow flashed extremely fast and attacked without any warning.
It’s too late to hide!
At the critical moment, I heard the voice of Steel Lord.
"Get down!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Chen Yubing and I squatted down together.
Immediately afterwards, an arrow flew through the air, brushed past my head, and directly hit the fast-moving black shadow!
At this moment, the image of hitting the target with a bullet from a hundred paces away suddenly appeared in my mind.
The black shadow screamed miserably and stopped moving. Only then could I see clearly what it was.
It is also a humanoid mutant creature, it looks emaciated, like a mummy.
This mummy-like monster had a tattered piece of clothing hanging loosely on its body.
The moment my eyes fell on the clothes, my pupils suddenly shrank.
I recognize this piece of clothing. It belongs to Tang Wen. Tang Wen is my childhood friend. I remember that we always quarreled with each other, but on his birthday, I once gave him a piece of clothing.
It was the same jersey as the one worn by his favorite e-sports player, with the player's autograph on it.
Looking at his face again, it was shrunken beyond recognition, but I could vaguely make out the scar on his forehead from when he was a child.
It's really him...
"Well……"
A painful groan came from Tang Wen's throat, and I saw his eyes briefly focus on my face.
Then, his body slowly fell down and fell in front of me.
Seeing my former playmate dead in front of me like this, I glanced at Chen Yubing beside me and wanted to say something, but the words were stuck in my throat.
In the ruins that looked like hell, people kept falling down, and the mutated monsters were becoming fewer and fewer.
Until the last monster is destroyed.
The captain forced himself to stand up, one eye closed, blood oozing from it. He seemed unconcerned. I saw the captain smile and say, "We won."
