While Gu Anran was in a deep sleep, she suddenly remembered something else, abruptly opened her eyes, and broke free from Ye Lichuan's embrace.
Just as Ye Lichuan was about to fall asleep, he drowsily hugged her tighter, grunted, and said in a muffled voice, "Where are you going again? Didn't you promise to go to sleep obediently?"
Gu Anran nudged him and whispered, "I'm going to check on your son. He's acting a bit strange today, and I'm still a little worried."
Ye Lichuan waited for a long time before reluctantly letting go of Gu Anran, then pulled the blanket over himself and went back to sleep.
Come back soon.
Gu Anran tiptoed toward Gu Xiaotian's room and found the door ajar, but the lights were off, meaning the little guy was already asleep.
At least that's how it looks.
She stood at the door for a while and heard sobbing coming from inside; it was Gu Xiaotian crying.
What's wrong with this child? What sad thing is keeping inside like this?
Hearing Gu Xiaotian's cries, Gu Anran felt as if her heart was being torn apart. As a parent, the thing she couldn't bear to see her child suffer was being wronged.
She waited until the crying inside gradually subsided before quietly going in.
Gu Anran carefully turned on the bedside lamp and adjusted it to the lowest brightness. She saw that Gu Xiaotian's fair face was covered with tear stains, indicating that he had been crying very hard.
He was sleeping soundly, clutching a corner of the blanket, but he looked pitiful and rather pathetic.
"Mmm~ Mommy." He turned over, murmured a couple of times, and went back to sleep.
Gu Anran thought about how she had been busy with work lately and hadn't had time to spend with Xiaotian. Perhaps the child was sad because of this lack of companionship.
Thinking about this, Gu Anran felt extremely guilty.
She wasn't a good mother; at the very least, she didn't give Xiaotian enough companionship.
She saw that Gu Xiaotian's body was trembling, and she wondered what he was dreaming about.
So Gu Anran quietly climbed into bed, lay down next to Xiaotian, hugged him in her arms, and gently patted his back.
When Xiao Tian was a little younger, Gu Anran would do this every night to lull him to sleep.
Sure enough, after a short while, Gu Xiaotian's body stopped trembling, and he seemed to be sleeping soundly.
Gu Anran held Gu Xiaotian close all night until he woke up in the morning. When Gu Xiaotian saw his mother lying next to him, he was both surprised and delighted.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" Gu Xiaotian glanced outside worriedly, as if afraid that Ye Lichuan would suddenly rush in and snatch her away.
Look how terrified this child is.
Gu Anran patted his head and said, "Mom is with our Xiaotian. What do you want to eat for breakfast? I'll make it for you, okay?"
Gu Xiaotian's eyes lit up; he hadn't had breakfast made by his mother in a long time.
"I want to eat Mom's sandwich, and it has to have lots and lots of pork floss and ham in it!"
Normally, Gu Anran would have said that those were junk food and shouldn't be eaten too much, but today she was unusually indulgent and readily agreed.
"Okay, Xiao Tian can eat as much as he wants today!"
Gu Xiaotian cheered and jumped out of bed on his own without Gu Anran urging him. He got dressed and started washing up.
Gu Anran smiled as she went downstairs to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Seeing Xiaotian's smile made her feel good all day long.
Gu Anran made a very generous sandwich as Xiaotian requested, and in the end, Gu Xiaotian was so full that he lay back in his chair groaning.
"Oh no, I think I'm going to be late!" Gu Xiaotian glanced at the clock and immediately jumped off his chair.
But Gu Anran called him back and said, "Don't worry, your dad and I will take you to school together today, so you don't need to wait for the school bus."
Gu Xiaotian could hardly believe his ears. Was all of this real? He was being treated like an emperor today.
"Thank you, Mom. I feel so happy," Gu Xiaotian said with a smile.
Ye Lichuan drove Gu Xiaotian to school with Gu Anran, and watched him enter the school gate before leaving.
Gu Anran pressed her temples with a hint of melancholy and said, "Look how happy he was just now, but I always felt like he was faking it for the two of us. He was clearly still unhappy."
"Then we'll pick him up from school again tonight. There's always a way to cheer him up." Ye Lichuan reached out and patted Gu Anran's head, giving her some encouragement.
There are just too many things to worry about.
Gu Anran sighed, "Once I'm done with this busy period, I must spend some quality time with Xiaotian. That child is just too lonely."
"You've done very well, don't blame yourself too much," Ye Lichuan encouraged.
Ye Lichuan dropped Gu Anran off at the company building. Before the car even stopped, he saw a familiar figure standing by the roadside, seemingly waiting for someone.
Thinking about what happened last night, Ye Lichuan didn't want to have any more contact with this kind of woman who didn't respect herself, so he parked the car at the intersection and let Gu Anran walk a few more steps to the company.
Gu Anran knew what he was thinking and didn't want to put him in a difficult position, so she immediately got out of the car.
She leaned out of the car window and waved to Ye Lichuan, smiling as she said, "See you tonight, remember to pick Xiaotian up from school together."
"Okay, call me anytime if anything happens." Ye Lichuan said, rolling up the car window.
Gu Anran walked towards the company gate, and as expected, Yan Jun, who was already waiting there, caught up with her.
"Mr. Gu, what a coincidence that we met at the door." Yan Jun greeted Gu Anran in a dry manner.
Gu Anran thought to herself, "You were clearly lying in wait at the door, did you think no one could tell?"
However, out of politeness, Gu Anran still greeted her with a smile.
"Last night I thought about it a lot and decided I should explain to President Gu that what you saw in the garage yesterday was all a misunderstanding. There's nothing between me and President Ye." Yan Jun hurriedly explained.
Yan Jun wasn't stupid; he knew that even without Ye Lichuan, he couldn't afford to lose Gu Anran, his pillar of support.
Gu Anran was already troubled by work and Gu Xiaotian's affairs, and then she was pestered by Yan Jun as soon as she arrived at the company in the morning, which made her feel very annoyed.
She suppressed her impatience and casually said, "I know it was all a misunderstanding. Since it's all over, you shouldn't dwell on it too much. You should focus on the show."
Now that things have been said to this extent, even if Yan Jun is stupid, he should be able to understand.
Yan Jun's expression softened considerably, and she quickly smiled and smoothed things over, saying, "Mr. Gu is right. Since it's all in the past, let's not bring it up again. Thank you for your understanding, Mr. Gu."
