Chapter 142 Misunderstanding

She looked at Xiaoling and saw that Xiaoling's face was flushed red. She waved her hand and kept glancing at Gu Xiaotian, clearly showing that she was also interested in him. Thinking of this, Gu Anran felt a little melancholy. Now her son was obviously biased towards Xiaoling.

If they really got together, wouldn't she, as the mother, have to take a backseat? Thinking of this, she glanced at Xiaoling and Xiaotian again.

When they found that Xiaotian was no longer shy, but instead had a serious face, they immediately felt that something was wrong. Had they teased him too much just now?

"I'll go wash the grapes for you." With that, she got up and walked towards the kitchen.

While washing the grapes, Gu Anran kept recalling the scene from earlier. If Xiao Tian really liked Xiao Ling, then they should be happy to help him. Why was it different from what she thought?

In the living room, Xiaoling cautiously looked at Gu Xiaotian, thinking he would be as shy as she was. However, his smile disappeared, and his expression became very serious, as if he disliked the topic.

Xiao Ling turned her head and rested it on the coffee table in front of her, her hands on either side gripping the sofa cushions. The rosy glow on her face slowly faded, and she even became somewhat pale.

She thought that Xiao Tian liked her, but now it seems that's not the case. She misunderstood and put Xiao Tian in such an awkward situation. She will have to explain it to him later.

Confused, Gu Anran brought out the crystal-clear grapes and noticed that the atmosphere between the two children seemed a bit strange. She looked at Ye Lichuan with a questioning look, but Ye Lichuan shook his head at her.

"Xiao Ling, eat some grapes, they're very sweet." Gu Anran was even more puzzled by her hesitant expression.

Xiao Ling nodded obediently, took a grape and wanted to hand it to Gu Xiaotian, but she withdrew her hand and lowered her head just before handing it to him, not seeing Gu Xiaotian's outstretched hand.

Auntie has already misunderstood the relationship between Xiaotian and her. She can't let her actions deepen the misunderstanding. Even the sweet grapes taste a little astringent in her mouth.

"Xiaotian? Why don't you peel it for Xiaoling?" Seeing her son staring intently at Xiaoling, Gu Anran was even more confused.

"No need, Auntie, I can do it myself." Xiaoling waved her hand, then quickly peeled a grape and put it in her mouth.

"What, you don't even have your little girlfriend...?"

Before Gu Anran could finish her tentative question, Xiaoling interrupted her, "Auntie, you've misunderstood. Xiaotian and I are just friends, we're not dating."

Upon hearing this, Gu Xiaotian pursed his lips and looked at Xiaoling with a sullen face. Seeing that she still had a smile on her face, he suddenly turned his head away. So it was all wishful thinking on his part? He thought that Xiaoling had just tacitly agreed, but it turned out that Xiaoling didn't like him at all.

Gu Anran didn't know what to do either. She nudged the person next to her, and Ye Lichuan bent down and whispered in her ear that she shouldn't worry about it and that Xiao Tian would handle it.

"Xiaoling is right, we're just friends, Mom and Dad, please don't misunderstand." He suddenly stood up and said solemnly.

Seeing that his complexion was even worse than before, Gu Anran was worried but didn't know what to say.

The grapes in Xiaoling's hand were squeezed so tightly that juice was oozing out. She forced a smile as she responded to Gu Xiaotian's words. The joyful atmosphere from just now had become somewhat heavy.

The two, who had been close together, gradually drifted apart. Xiaoling stared at the television in front of her, feeling very upset. She felt that she had done something wrong and made her brother Xiaotian unhappy.

Despite their best efforts to hide their unhappiness, the young children still revealed it. Gu Anran anxiously tugged at Ye Lichuan, but he led her upstairs.

"The children are still down there."

"Don't worry, Xiaotian will handle it." He didn't want his wife to be bothered by such a trivial matter. He trusted his son and wanted them to resolve their own issues.

However, when it comes to relationships, both adults and children will experience some setbacks.

Downstairs, Gu Xiaotian watched the childish cartoon on TV with a tense face. He hated childish things but was willing to watch them with her. No matter what, she was always the first person he thought of. He thought Xiaoling understood, but it turned out he was overthinking it.

Xiaoling couldn't sit still any longer. After watching cartoons in silence for half an hour, she stood up and said, "Brother Xiaotian, should I go back first?"

"Let's go back after dinner. I've already talked to Grandma. If you feel sleepy, you can go upstairs and take a nap." He forced a smile.

Xiao Ling didn't dare to look at him. She silently followed him to the room. After being covered with a blanket, she looked at the decorations in his room and felt so sad that she wanted to cry when she remembered what had just happened.

She sobbed twice but held it back, eventually falling asleep after tossing and turning. Gu Xiaotian sat down alone on the sofa, with cartoons playing on the TV.

Worried, Gu Anran secretly hid behind the wall to check on the situation, but saw her son's lonely figure. She sighed and went back to her room.

The time to finish eating came quickly, and Gu Anran had prepared a sumptuous dinner as usual, but the atmosphere was completely different from that at noon.

Gu Anran had been observing the two of them and noticed that Xiao Tian had stopped serving food to Xiao Ling and had stopped speaking to her. Xiao Ling was left standing there, looking completely lost. Gu Anran could only try to lighten the mood, but it didn't work.

After dinner, Xiaoling offered to help. After washing the dishes, she said that her grandmother was waiting for her at home and she had to go back. While she was talking, she kept looking at Gu Xiaotian, but Gu Xiaotian turned his head away and didn't look at her.

"Be careful. If you want to come, tell Xiaotian and she'll bring you."

"Thank you, Auntie and Uncle. I'll be going now." She bowed and got into the car, where the driver took her home.

On the way, she stared blankly at the plush bear that Gu Xiaotian had given her, feeling very sad. Perhaps she would never go to the Gu family again. When she got home, her grandmother was walking towards the bathroom with her cane, and she quickly ran forward to help her grandmother.

Grandma patted her head affectionately, "Weren't you going to Xiaotian's house to play? Why are you back so early?"

"Grandma, I'll always be with you from now on." She glanced quickly at her grandma, then lowered her head, large tears streaming down her face.

The old woman turned and walked towards the sofa. Seeing her granddaughter crying and hiccuping, she comforted her tenderly, "Okay, Grandma's here, isn't she? Don't cry." She reached out and gently stroked her granddaughter's hair.

It's easy to guess that she must have argued with the Gu family's child to be so upset. However, the Gu family has helped the Mo family so much, so even if Xiaoling was crying because she was bullied by the Gu family's son, she wouldn't go to their door to demand an explanation.

In front of the Gu family's gate, Gu Xiaotian stood motionless at the entrance, even though the gate had been driven away for some time. Gu Anran stood behind him, guessing the reason for Xiaotian's behavior.

"Mom, I want to go abroad to participate in a physics competition," Gu Xiaotian suddenly said, his tone firm.
