Looking at the steaming dumplings in front of her, Gu Anran felt a mix of emotions. She picked one up and put it in her mouth, but after only two chews, her nerves twitched again, and she couldn't help but frown.
It seems I didn't rest well last night; I feel nauseous after just a few bites.
Ye Lichuan, whose eyes never left her, noticed her frowning and assumed the dumplings didn't taste good. He became nervous, and Gu Anran forced herself to eat a few dumplings before feeling she couldn't eat anymore.
"I'm full." She put down her chopsticks and walked upstairs. Ye Lichuan looked at the many dumplings still left in his bowl and felt a sense of frustration.
Gu Anran rubbed her head, intending to go back to her bedroom to rest a bit more, when her phone suddenly rang. It was a message from a customer saying that she was bringing her son to a banquet and asked if she could speed things up a bit.
She hesitated for a moment on the stairs before walking toward the studio. The customer's design was the same one she hadn't saved last night, and now she had to start from scratch. It was impossible for her not to blame Ye Lichuan.
She resumed painting, finishing only halfway by noon. However, the pain slowed her thinking, and after much deliberation, she decided to rest for half a day.
"Madam, it's time for lunch."
She opened the door and came out, saying, "I'm not going to have lunch. I'm going back to my room to sleep for a while."
Seeing that she looked unwell, Aunt Wu didn't try to persuade her anymore. She thought she would cook her some porridge later, but Ye Lichuan, upon learning that she was not eating lunch again, thought that she was sulking with her and that was why she was making excuses not to eat.
After going upstairs, he arrived at the studio but found no one there. He went to the bedroom and turned the handle, where he saw a person curled up in a ball. He walked over and gently lifted her blanket.
Gu Anran frowned impatiently at the person in front of her. Although she wasn't grumpy when she woke up, she had finally managed to fall asleep and didn't want to be disturbed.
"You didn't eat lunch, get up and eat something before you go back to sleep."
"I'm not eating!" Gu Anran pulled the blanket over herself and turned around.
"Don't play with your health just because you're angry with me. You're pregnant now, and your body is absorbing nutrients for two people."
Gu Anran wasn't touched by his words; she just found him annoying. She pulled the blanket over her head, trying to block out his voice, but the blanket was pulled back again, and Ye Lichuan forcefully grabbed her hand and told her to go eat lunch.
"Aren't you annoying? What does it matter to you whether I eat or not?" Gu Anran's voice suddenly grew louder, her whole body exuding impatience.
"Gu Anran!" Ye Lichuan was also angered by her attitude.
But Gu Anran was even angrier than him, and the two started arguing again.
Gu Xiaotian, who was sitting downstairs waiting for his parents to come down, noticed that they hadn't come down yet, so he got up and went upstairs. After going up a few floors, he vaguely heard arguing.
He quickly walked to the master bedroom. The door was slightly ajar. He bent down and listened for a while. The main argument was that his mother felt his father didn't understand her, while his father felt that his mother wasn't a child anymore and that it was childish for her to hurt herself just to get angry.
Seeing that the two were arguing more and more fiercely, he quickly went in and said, "Mom and Dad, please stop arguing. Let's talk things out."
Gu Anran pulled him to her side, patted his shoulder to comfort him, and then began to berate Ye Lichuan relentlessly. Seeing that the two were arguing again, Gu Xiaotian also got angry, turned around, slammed the door, and left with the words, "Since you want to argue, then argue as much as you want."
The loud slam of the door startled Gu Anran. Looking at the man opposite her, she suddenly lost the strength to argue. She slumped onto the bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling lost and confused.
Seeing Gu Xiaotian rushing out the door, Aunt Wu came over and asked him a question, but he didn't say a word, just opened the door and went out with a tense little face.
Sensing something was wrong, Aunt Wu rushed upstairs, shouting, "Madam, sir, something terrible has happened! Xiao Tian has run away!"
Upon hearing this, Gu Anran jumped out of bed, opened the door, and was about to chase after him when Ye Lichuan stopped her from behind. "You stay home and rest, I'll go after him." She nodded.
As soon as Ye Lichuan stepped out the gate, he saw Gu Xiaotian. A taxi stopped in front of him, and he was about to crouch down and get in when he called out, "Xiaotian!"
Upon hearing the sound, Gu Xiaotian turned to look at him, then got into the car without hesitation and told the driver to start the car and head to their destination.
Watching the car drive away, Ye Lichuan took a few steps forward to note the license plate, then returned to the garage and asked his assistant to check the taxi driver's route. After confirming the route, he started the car.
Following the route provided by his assistant, he used several traffic lights to catch up with Gu Xiaotian, but he dared not cut him off rashly and could only follow behind the car.
Feeling annoyed, Gu Xiaotian didn't notice the car following him. The driver glanced at him in the rearview mirror and, seeing that he seemed to be in a bad mood, asked, "Have you run away from home?"
Gu Xiaotian glanced at the driver in the mirror and nodded in response. Although he didn't speak, it didn't stop the driver from talking a lot. It would take twenty minutes to get from home to the destination, and the driver kept talking to himself during that time without feeling embarrassed.
He parked the car in front of the library, paid the fare, and walked straight inside.
Ye Lichuan wanted to follow, but was stopped by someone who said, "Sir, you can't park here."
After confirming that he understood, he looked at Gu Xiaotian again to make sure he had entered the library before parking his car. Only after parking did he go inside.
This library is the largest in the city, with five floors, each with a different area, so finding Gu Xiaotian is not an easy task.
After searching the first floor without finding Gu Xiaotian, Ye Lichuan stopped and asked the library staff about the location of the advanced mathematics and physics materials.
Sure enough, he found Gu Xiaotian picking up materials in the advanced mathematics section. Gu Xiaotian also saw him, but looked away the next second, as if the two were strangers.
"Xiaotian, I apologize for arguing with your mother today. I didn't control my emotions, and your mother was also in a bad mood because she is pregnant with your little brother and sister. We didn't consider your feelings."
Gu Xiaotian didn't say anything, but just picked up one document after another, and then went to the reading room. Because it was noon, there were only a few people sitting there.
Ye Lichuan lowered his voice and continued to speak to him, but he remained silent and began to read the documents.
Because his voice was still quite noticeable in the quiet reading room, he could only stay by the side and remain silent after receiving glances from the others.
Still angry, Gu Xiaotian glanced at him when he wasn't looking, then looked away when he looked at him. He wanted to take this opportunity to teach them that they shouldn't quarrel so easily.
Gu Anran was on edge the whole time at home. She paced back and forth anxiously, constantly checking her phone.
