Chapter 73 The missing jade

Despite being delirious from the fever, she carefully avoided Ye Chuan's injuries and leaned against the door to support herself.

She shook her head, trying to clear her mind, but the double vision made her even more dizzy.

While checking on her condition, Ye Chuan peered out through the crack in the door.

There wasn't a soul in sight outside. Still not reassured, he waited a few more moments before turning around and grabbing Gu Anran's wrist to make sure no one was there.

"Come with me."

After resting, Gu Anran was able to stand up with difficulty. Fortunately, Ye Chuan was also injured, so the two of them were not moving fast. The kidnappers did not make any move for a long time, and Ye Chuan breathed a sigh of relief.

"Hang in there a little longer, we'll be there soon."

Ye Chuan gritted his teeth, and the wound on his calf started bleeding again, but Gu Anran's condition wasn't much better, so they could only grit their teeth and persevere.

The sound of waves crashing on the beach reached my ears, and I could smell the salty scent of the sea.

He excitedly told her, "We're almost at the beach, let's hurry!"

Gu Anran stumbled, nodded, and followed Ye Chuan's footsteps.

The cold sea breeze on her face took away some of the heat, and Gu Anran became much more awake. She let Ye Chuan put his arm around her shoulder and put half of her body's weight on his shoulder.

"You have a leg injury, but I can manage."

She casually uttered those words and walked forward in silence. Despite her fever, she seemed more stubborn than usual. Ye Chuan struggled to break free several times but failed each time, and finally had no choice but to give in to her.

"Quick! They're right there, don't let them get away."

A sharp sound shattered the silence of the night, followed by the beams of several flashlights shining towards them.

"Oh no, they've found us!"

Ye Chuan suddenly turned around, ignoring his leg injury, and pulled Gu Anran along as they ran forward.

But how could two people, one injured and the other with a fever, possibly outrun a normal person?

As they drew closer, Gu Anran's face flushed, whether from anxiety or fever was unclear.

"You should leave quickly, their target is me." Gu Anran became even calmer, pushing Ye Chuan away and intending to go back to buy time.

The kidnappers wouldn't let her die easily, but Ye Chuan's leg and forehead injuries couldn't wait, so he had to go first.

Moreover, Ye Chuan was already implicated by her, so it wasn't worth risking his life.

But her arm was suddenly grabbed, and she fell into someone's arms.

"Do you think I'd let you go back alone? At least they won't kill me." But Gu Anran might not be so sure.

From childhood to adulthood, he has always been a person of his word. Since he wanted to save people, he would not give up halfway.

"Sweetie, just jump into the sea and I'll wait for you to come and save me," Ye Chuan whispered in her ear.

As soon as he finished speaking, he pushed her aside and started walking slowly toward the kidnapper, moving his wrists.

Gu Anran stood there, staring at his back. No one had ever gone to such lengths for her before.

"What are you doing? Run!"

The low growl brought her back to her senses, and she took off running. The shouts behind her grew closer and closer, but then stopped abruptly at one point.

"Kid, you've ruined our plans again. Do you really think we won't do anything to you?"

Gu Anran's figure completely disappeared into the night; the sound of her falling into the water was still in their ears, but they could no longer catch up. They could only direct all their anger at Ye Chuan, who remained behind.

He gave a sarcastic smile, glanced at his calves, and shrugged: "Didn't you think you'd already done it? What's there to be afraid of?"

"Heh, what a devoted lover. He'd risk his life for a woman."

The leader laughed loudly and waved to the people behind him, who instantly surrounded him.

"Then we'll have to see just how hard your bones really are."

Ye Chuan glanced in the direction where Gu Anran had disappeared. If it delayed any longer, it would have to fend for itself for the rest of the journey.

"Fine, all of you come over here." He deliberately provoked her, at least so that no one would go looking for Gu Anran anymore.

...

Surrounded by icy seawater, Gu Anran choked a few mouthfuls, her hands unconsciously wading through the water to keep herself from sinking.

The sea was silent and terrifying at night. There was no light around, and she couldn't tell which way to go. She didn't know how long she had been swimming. Her arms were already sore. Whenever she was about to give up, Ye Chuan's voice would echo in her mind.

Yes, she still had to go save Ye Chuan; he was still waiting for her, and she absolutely couldn't give up.

But I'm so tired, I really can't hold on much longer.

His eyelids began to feel heavy, and the range of their movement gradually decreased. He pinched the soft flesh on his wrist hard to keep himself from falling asleep immediately.

Just as she was about to lose consciousness, the yacht's engine and blinding lights were heading in her direction.

Was it just her imagination? Someone came to rescue her.

It wasn't until she was dragged onto the yacht that she began to appear somewhat real.

"Quick, go save them!" Gu Anran said hurriedly, clutching the lifeguard's clothes tightly and pointing in a general direction.

"No problem, you should rest well first, your condition is also very bad."

The lifeguard calmed her down, gave his companion a look, and the yacht started up again, heading in the direction she pointed.

Gu Anran dared not sleep. Although her nerves were already stretched to the limit, she still wanted to see Ye Chuan with her own eyes before she could feel at ease.

The yacht circled around several times before finally finding the beach she had mentioned.

Upon arrival, they smelled a strong stench of blood. The two exchanged a glance and quickly ran over, only to find Ye Chuan covered in blood on the beach, with no one else in sight.

"He's still breathing; he must have been knocked unconscious. We need to get him to the hospital right away."

The lifeguards quickly checked Ye Chuan's condition, calmly analyzed the situation, and together with their companions, lifted him onto the yacht.

When Gu Anran saw Ye Chuan covered in blood, her heart ached, her vision went black, and she fainted.

When she woke up again, Gu Anran looked at the vast expanse of white, a hint of confusion flashing in her eyes.

"Don't move yet, it'll be over soon, otherwise we'll have to do it again later."

The nurse's words brought her to her senses. Looking at the syringe on the back of her hand, she lay on the bed trying to sort out her thoughts.

She and Ye Chuan were kidnapped, and Ye Chuan was injured while saving her; they are both currently in the hospital.

Ye Chuan...right, where is Ye Chuan?

"How's the man who came with me? Is he alright?"

The nurse quickly pressed down on her body to prevent the blood from flowing backward.

"Don't worry, he's fine. He just has some minor external injuries and is currently in the next ward."

The bottle of water was empty, and the nurse deftly removed the needle and packed up her things in one smooth motion.

Gu Anran lay back down on the bed, letting out a long sigh of relief. It's good that everything is alright.

She only had a fever and was just a little frightened. She quickly returned to normal and was as lively as ever.

However, although the doctor emphasized that Ye Chuan was out of danger, he still couldn't get out of bed and needed to rest.

Gu Anran took it upon herself to care for Ye Chuan, arranged everything, and stayed by his bedside.
