Chapter 105 Lily Blossoms…

Chapter 105 Lily Blossoms…

Wei Zhang just smiled, his eyes reddening even more.

He was usually quiet and reserved, but he gave off a cold impression.

But right now, he seems to be making a foolish mistake.

He said nothing, did nothing, but just stared at her intently, as if trying to take in every frown and movement of hers and remember them.

Xue Lanyi felt extremely uncomfortable under his gaze and scolded him, "Hurry up and bring the child over so I can see if it's a boy or a girl?"

She looked up at him, but he remained fixed on her.

That's weird.

Xue Lanyi had heard the child crying, but she wasn't in the mood to stare at him.

She pushed away his hand from her shoulder, craned her neck to look outside, intending to call Grandma Liu to bring the child over.

The moment she was out of his embrace, an even hotter heat rushed towards her from behind.

Wei Zhang's strong arms wrapped tightly around the girl's shoulders from behind, her head buried in her neck, the wide python robe tightly binding her.

Xue Lanyi felt as if he was pressing her into her chest, making it hard for her to breathe.

"Wei Zhang, Wei Zhang, what are you doing?" She tried to struggle, but it was as if all the energy had been drained from her body, leaving her unable to move and barely breathing.

Intermittent breaths traveled from his spine to Wei Zhang's chest, short and sharp.

Wei Zhang realized he had used too much force. He loosened his grip slightly, but his arms still held her close.

Perhaps because they were too close, Xue Lanyi felt an emptiness in his chest, as if it could never be filled, which is why he wanted to hug her tighter.

The child he had been longing for was born, but why did he not feel any joy?

"Wei Zhang, what's wrong with you?" Xue Lanyi stopped struggling and let him hug her from behind.

The man remained silent for a long time, then parted his dry, chapped lips slightly and pressed them against her neck. "If... if you really can't like me... then forget it."

His hoarse voice carried a hint of compromise, but also a touch of resentment.

But his attitude was sincere; he didn't intend to force her.

Xue Lanyi looked at the person beside her shoulder with some surprise, and the man also happened to be looking at her.

The two looked at each other with a finger's width between them, and Xue Lanyi could clearly see how his eyes gradually filled with tears.

Although he tried his best to remain calm, the fear, exhaustion, and helplessness deep in his eyes surfaced with his tears.

Xue Lanyi was unaware that she had fainted last night due to postpartum hemorrhage.

The moment the baby cried, her blood overflowed, and the entire bed was covered in blood.

It can't be blocked, it can't be stopped.

Wei Zhang watched as the color on her face faded little by little until she turned deathly pale.

The imperial physicians and midwives were kneeling all over the place inside and outside the delivery room.

"The lady is gone."

One sentence from the imperial physician, and wails filled the air.

Finally, it was only because Zhou Yu insisted that his pulse was still intact that he resorted to the dangerous method of inserting silver needles into his skull, which saved him.

Otherwise, she would have bled to death.

At that time, Wei Zhang was helpless and utterly useless.

At that moment, he wondered what could be more important than her living a good life.

If you don't like it, you don't like it.

His chin rested on her shoulder, his voice thick with nasal emotion, "Whether you're a lover, a butler, or a bodyguard..."

Guards...

Wei Zhang probably couldn't handle it. He gently brushed his nose against her neck and said, "As long as you don't leave, everything will be fine."

Xue Lanyi almost laughed at his joke.

Now that her children are here, she has no family anywhere in the world. Where else can she go?

"I think you're really stupid."

What a perfectly upright and strong man! After the child was born, instead of taking care of the child, he was stuck in a corner of his bedroom worrying about whether he liked the child or not.

She really looks like a young girl just coming of age and experiencing the first stirrings of love.

She glared at him, about to tease him again, when suddenly an idea flashed through her mind.

"Did you... eavesdrop on my conversation with Zhou Yu yesterday?"

“I didn’t eavesdrop.” He paused, then added, “I didn’t listen with my ears, and none of these words matter.”

This statement itself is contradictory.

He clearly heard Xue Lanyi say "I don't like it".

So, he didn't even get into bed last night; he just stayed by her side, wondering if she liked him.

Xue Lanyi could feel that his body was cold.

In the past few months, although he appeared calm on the outside, he was actually on edge, constantly on guard against anyone trying to harm them, and his body under the python robe had become quite thin.

Now, he spent the whole night pondering over half a sentence from Xue Lanyi.

No wonder he was silent and preoccupied just now.

Xue Lanyi was both amused and exasperated. She turned around to face him and said, "Outsiders all praise Scholar Wei for his profound knowledge of poetry and literature, but do you know what scholars hate most?"

Wei Zhang frowned, not really in the mood to discuss poetry and literature with her, so he didn't think about it properly.

Xue Lanyi said, word by word, "The worst thing for a scholar is to take things out of context and to interpret them arbitrarily after hearing only half of what is said."

Wei Zhang's expression hardened slightly, realizing something, and his brows furrowed.

"...Is there a second half to the sentence?"

"Yes," Xue Lanyi said casually.

A slight tremor ran through Wei Zhang's heart.

Reason told him that the second half of the sentence must be positive, otherwise she wouldn't have said it so openly.

But psychologically, they felt resistance and were afraid to listen.

Wanting to hear but afraid to, Wei Zhang's brows furrowed even more. "What?"

The two words were spoken very softly, as if afraid of shattering the sunlight shining in front of them.

Xue Lanyi met his gaze through the golden light.

The wind swept through her hair, filling the room with fragrance.

Her eyes were gentle. "I'll talk to Zhou Yu..."

Wow~ Wow~ Wow~

The tranquil space was broken by the baby's crying.

"Sir, please go and see, this child is crying uncontrollably and cannot be soothed."

"Then shut him up."

Wei Zhang blurted out, cutting off Ying Qi's words.

It was quiet both inside and outside the house.

But only a moment later, Xue Lanyi grabbed the rabbit from the bed and threw it at him, "What are you saying?"

"Aren't you the one who needs a gag?"

You can't expect ivory from a dog's mouth!

What man would talk about his child like that?

Xue Lanyi nudged him, "Go and bring the child over here quickly!"

Wei Zhang was preoccupied with something and wanted to say something, but he saw Xue Lanyi panting heavily.

Ultimately, her body was severely depleted, and Zhou Yu said she couldn't withstand any more stimulation.

Wei Zhang had no choice but to keep quiet and leave.

He walked to the outside of the gauze-draped wardrobe, then stepped back, clearing his throat with his fist pressed against his lips. "It's a nice thing to say, isn't it?"

Xue Lanyi glared at him, and he left dejectedly.

Reaching the doorway, he casually grabbed a cloak, tossed it open, and draped it over himself, concealing his disheveled appearance and exhaustion.

As the door opened, a ray of golden sunlight shone in.

He stood against the light at the doorway, his tall figure exuding an imposing, mountain-like aura.

This time, however, the oppressive aura no longer descended upon Xue Lanyi, but instead transformed into an indestructible wall, keeping the chilly morning breeze outside.

"Wei Zhang!" she called out to him.

He turned around and tilted his head slightly.

She said, "I'll tell you when I get back."

“I’m looking forward to it.” He smiled slightly at her.

Inside the beaded curtain, she smiled too, watching his retreating figure for a long time.

That day, Zhou Yu asked her, "Do you like Wei Zhang even a little bit?"

Her answer was indeed no.

But then she told Zhou Yu, "I will try very hard to convince myself that I like it."

After all, one shouldn't be at odds with oneself.

Now that he and she have become a couple, and they have a child as a bond, she can't keep wallowing in self-pity forever.

If reality doesn't meet her expectations, she should try to find the good side of reality and make herself happier.

Instead of getting stuck on things that aren't going well.

Besides, she didn't want their children to live in a cold, loveless home like she did.

That day, Xue Lanyi looked over Zhou Yu's shoulder and gazed at his steady, mountain-like figure, a faint smile appearing on her lips. "I think I can always succeed."

If she and he both work a little harder, they will succeed.

only……

If Wei Zhang knew that she had blocked his path to success, would he still try harder?

The smile in Xue Lanyi's eyes faded, and she glanced thoughtfully in the direction of the baby's crying.

I wonder how well she's handling the matter of switching children with Zhou Yu.

Xue Lanyi was on edge, and struggled to get up, supporting herself on the bed railing.

Feeling powerless beneath his feet, he tumbled forward.

One person stepped forward and helped her up.

"Don't worry, Yiyi, everything is taken care of."

Zhou Yu lowered his voice beside Xue Lanyi, but seeing that Xue Lanyi was still full of worry, Zhou Yu explained in detail: "Last night, Yiyi was unconscious. The Duke of Wei stayed with you the whole time, but he didn't even look at the child. He just left the young prince to me and asked me to take his pulse and check. I got what I wanted very easily."

In the vast palace filled with countless people, Wei Zhang trusted very few.

Zhou Yu is one of them.

At least Wei Zhang knew that Zhou Yu wouldn't harm the young prince, which is why he entrusted the child to him. But this was exactly what Zhou Yu wanted. Taking advantage of Wei Zhang's lack of vigilance, Zhou Yu sent the child to the Empress's palace to switch him.

Once Xue Lanyi's condition stabilized, Wei Zhang came to his senses and ordered Qingyang to switch the infant.

Therefore, Wei Zhang must have assumed that the crying child outside was Mu Qinghong's offspring, which is why he remained indifferent just now.

In reality, the two exchanges happened twice, and the one crying outside right now is their own flesh and blood.

Xue Lanyi longed to see her child, so she stood up, took a delicate rattle drum, and went to the nursery.

Zhou Yu, supporting Xue Lanyi, hesitated, "I never expected that the Duke of Wei would trust me."

If it weren't for this trust, how could Zhou Yu have succeeded in the heavily guarded Xi Cui Palace?

But will these few remaining trusts turn into an even sharper blade when the truth of the switcheroo is revealed in the near future?

Xue Lanyi knew Zhou Yu was worried about her, so she patted the back of his hand and said, "It's alright. I blocked his path to success, so I will make amends to him in other ways."

"What?"

"..." Xue Lanyi paused for a moment, her eyes softening, "What he wants."

At that time, in the baby's room.

The baby in the cradle had cried until its voice was hoarse, and its voice was not so noisy anymore, but it was still choked with sobs.

Beside the cradle, the wet nurse, her clothes loosely draped, knelt at Wei Zhang's feet, trembling like a leaf. "M-Master, I didn't know anything! Even if you gave me a hundred lives, I wouldn't dare to poison the young prince!"

The wet nurse kowtowed repeatedly, the sound of her head hitting the bluestone slab was very jarring.

A boot peeked out from under the dark hem of her dress and stepped on the wet nurse's hand.

The man standing with his hands behind his back remained expressionless, seemingly without exerting much force, but the wet nurse cried out in pain and looked up to meet Wei Zhang's brooding eyes.

In an instant, it felt like falling into an icy abyss; all the pain was swallowed back down his throat, and his face contorted in agony.

Inside the room, everyone else held their breath in anticipation.

Under pressure, Qingyang stepped forward to report, "Reporting to Your Excellency, following the clues from the poisoned chicken soup discovered the other day, I found... I discovered that the person in the shadows didn't put the poison directly into the chicken soup, but rather in the chicken feed. This way, the chickens would only become poisoned after eating the poison, making it difficult to detect using ordinary methods of poison testing."

Following this line of thought, the subordinates continued their investigation and discovered that the silkworms used to make clothes for the lady and the fish used to stimulate lactation for the wet nurse had all been poisoned.

Although the amount of poison produced was small, it accumulated over time and seeped into the lady's food, clothing, and daily necessities, which is why she bled profusely last night and the blood wouldn't clot.

In other words, Mu Qinghong had long planned to cause his sister to die from postpartum hemorrhage and to cause her child to die in the womb.

If it weren't for Zhou Yu, the last descendant of the Zhou family, who knew the Zhou family's life-saving acupuncture techniques, Xue Lanyi would have been powerless to save the situation.

A chill ran down Wei Zhang's spine, and an aura of sternness emanated from within, spreading outwards and freezing the air.

Wei Zhang's somber gaze fell on the cradle as he approached it step by step.

The footsteps were almost silent, yet every sound reached the ear.

The crowd, like startled birds, held their breath and retreated with their heads down.

Everything was quiet except for the intermittent crying of the infant.

When Wei Zhang approached, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

The baby suddenly stopped crying, its bright black eyes staring at Wei Zhang, seemingly bewildered.

A moment later, amidst Wei Zhang's angry gaze, she burst into laughter through her tears.

The child stretched out his fair arms from his swaddling clothes, reaching out to Wei Zhang for a hug.

Wei Zhang frowned, his face showing displeasure at being overstepped.

The baby was amused and giggled, drool dripping from the corner of his mouth, which was extremely improper.

"Qingyang." Wei Zhang's brows furrowed even more, and after a moment's pause, "throw him into the wolf's den."

"Master! Master, you mean...this child?" Qingyang glanced at the chubby little baby in the bamboo basket and excitedly raised his voice, "Those wolves are war wolves left behind by the Western Expeditionary Army. The child is soft and sweet; if you throw him in, I'm afraid...I'm afraid he'll be devoured in no time!"

"Otherwise what?"

Are we sending him to play in the wolf's den?

Wei Zhang glanced at Qingyang indifferently, his displeasure evident.

Qingyang's face turned pale, and he opened his mouth as if to try to persuade him again.

Yingqi quickly stepped in front of her brother.

The Duke always keeps his word and will not tolerate any dissent.

Moreover, Yingqi agreed with the master's idea: "Big brother only thinks about how pitiful this child is, but doesn't he think about our young master and our lady?"

Despite my utmost vigilance and precautions, my son and wife were still nearly harmed by that Mu fellow.

If this grudge isn't settled decisively, everyone will think our master is easy to bully, and then who wouldn't dare to cause trouble at Xi Cui Palace?

Ying Qi was indignant. He stepped forward, wrapped the baby in swaddling clothes, covered the infant, and picked him up. "If you won't do this, I will. Not only will I do it, but I will also throw the child's remains in front of Mu Qinghong and his wife to make them behave!"

Ying Qi spat and went outside.

Wei Zhang remained silent and did not stop him, staring at the swaying empty bamboo basket for a long time.

The children's laughter faded into the distance.

His eyes lowered, concealing their gaze.

Suddenly, something tripped her around the waist.

"Eeya ya—"

A childish voice sounded from behind.

Wei Zhang then noticed that the baby had grabbed the tassel of the jade pendant.

The child's arms were chubby and short, but his hands were strong. He kept shaking Wei Zhang's jade pendant, and Wei Zhang's belt loosened.

The child, however, seemed to have discovered a new toy, his eyes crinkling into slits with laughter, and he kept babbling to Wei Zhang.

The baby's natural, warm, milky scent fills the air, it's so...

Wei Zhang swallowed hard, then his face hardened. "It smells awful. Aren't you going to take it away?"

"Look!" Yingqi hurriedly pulled the baby's hand away and ran outside with the child in her arms.

Perhaps it was pulled away too quickly, the tassel cut the baby's hand, and the pale yellow tassel was stained with streaks of bright red, fluttering lightly in the wind around Wei Zhang's waist.

This ribbon was from a few days ago, when he blocked Xue Lanyi's way and made her hit him.

As she tied a lucky knot around his waist, she playfully scolded him: "You always look so gloomy. You need to have some bright colors so that our future children will like you."

The pale yellow hue fluttered before my eyes, too intense.

Wei Zhang was momentarily stunned by the glare, and also lost his composure, "Shadow Seven..."

After a long silence, he said, "Let Qingyang go."

Ying Qi, who had already reached the door, paused and waved his hand dismissively, "Master, what difference does it make which of us brothers goes? Don't I still have to deal with the congratulatory officials?"

“I said, let Qingyang go.” Wei Zhang repeated himself, his dark figure leaving no room for argument.

"this……"

Yingqi wanted to say something more, but Qingyang made a meaningful gesture to silence them, and the two brothers left quietly.

The baby's voice faded into the distance until it disappeared completely.

A thunderclap suddenly resounded in the sky.

Under the corridor, Xue Lanyi, who was pacing with difficulty, was startled and stumbled.

Zhou Yu quickly helped her up, saying, "Let's rest for a bit."

Having just given birth the night before, Xue Lanyi was still very weak. The journey from her palace to the nursery involved navigating an arched bridge and a corridor, making it a long one for her.

We walked and stopped frequently, and it took almost the time it takes for an incense stick to burn.

As you get closer to the nursery, you can no longer hear the baby crying.

Xue Lanyi felt a sudden, inexplicable panic. She gestured with her hand to indicate that they didn't need to stop, and dragged her heavy steps forward. "Perhaps... perhaps Wei Zhang is scaring the child with his cold face again, so much so that the child doesn't even dare to cry. A father shouldn't be so heartless. I have to go and talk to him..."

As she walked, the rattle in her hand made crisp drumbeats, which sounded very cheerful.

Suddenly, a dark shadow passed by from behind, brushing past like a gust of wind.

Thud—

The rattle drum in Xue Lanyi's hand was knocked away.

The small drum was smashed on the stone and shattered into pieces.

Xue Lanyi quickly squatted down to pick it up, while simultaneously reaching out with her other hand. "Madam can't stand the wind, why did you go out at this time?"

Xue Lanyi ignored Ying Qi and hurriedly picked up the broken pieces on the ground.

At this moment, dark clouds rolled in on the horizon, and a fierce wind rose.

It's going to rain heavily.

The little drum she made by hand was blown away and scattered, and she could barely hold onto it.

In her haste, she reached out to pick up the broken pieces and fell to the ground.

Yingqi quickly helped her up, and a strong smell of blood wafted from Yingqi.

Xue Lanyi felt nauseous and unconsciously looked into his arms.

The wind and sand were so strong and blinding that she couldn't see the person in front of her clearly, but she caught a glimpse of a dazzling red.

Her pupils suddenly dilated, then contracted inch by inch, staring intently at the package Ying Qi had tucked under his arm.

The red velvet fabric, embroidered with a hundred children, was sewn on stitch by stitch by Xue Lanyi, but now the chubby baby's smiling face has been stained with some red liquid.

The wind made her wide eyes water, but she didn't blink. Her lips twitched slightly as she stammered, "This...this is..."

"this……"

Ying Qi's face stiffened. "It was a bundle stolen by Granny Yi. My brother told me to take the stolen goods to report to the master. Madam, I'll be going now!"

How could it be a burden?

That was a swaddle blanket that Xue Lanyi made for the child!

Seeing that he was about to leave, Xue Lanyi reacted quickly and grabbed a corner of the bundle.

The red swaddled baby fluttered down, and before the baby fell, several bones with skin and flesh still attached, crashing onto the bluestone slabs and onto Xue Lanyi's skirt, leaving a trail of crimson.

Xue Lanyi stared intently at the humanoid skeleton, feeling something warm welling up from within her body...

"ah!"

Amidst the rumbling thunder, a heart-wrenching scream of pain echoed through the sky.

The tranquility of the nursery was broken.

Wei Zhang vaguely heard a familiar voice, his eyelids twitched, and he burst out of the door.

Through the thick rain, he saw a woman in white under the covered walkway, holding a skeleton, and roaring to the sky.

One hoarse sound after another, without words, just instinctively uttering hoarse cries.

The vast sky was filled with lightning and thunder, but no sound was more mournful or heart-wrenching.

"Yiyi!"

Wei Zhang panicked and rushed into the rain, tripped over a bench, and fell right next to Xue Lanyi.

His hand touched the ground and felt something warm. Only then did he realize that her skirt was soaked with blood and growing redder.

Blood trickled down from under her skirt, seeping into Wei Zhang's fingers through the cracks in the brickwork.

"Yiyi, listen to me..."

Wei Zhang's legs went weak and he couldn't stand up. He quickly pulled Xue Lanyi into his arms and held her tightly, saying, "It's not what you think, it's not what you think..."

“Our child is fine, perfectly fine in Xiefang Palace, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid…” Wei Zhang said with certainty.

The more certain he became, the more uncontrollable the tears in Xue Lanyi's eyes became.

Her face, ashen, rested against Wei Zhang's arm, and her tears gradually turned from grief into something mechanical.

There is no hatred, no pain, only flowing.

Her child was killed by Wei Zhang, and his remains were never found.

He was so young, he didn't understand anything. Was he still giggling before he was divided up and his bones were removed?

Was he still full of anticipation, begging his father to hug him, before Wei Zhang killed him?

Xue Lanyi's bloodshot eyes slowly glared at Wei Zhang.

It was like a sharp blade piercing his chest.

He hadn't seen that look in her eyes in a long time. A fear he had never felt before surged through him. He grabbed Zhou Yu by the collar and pulled her down in front of Xue Lanyi. "Quick, save her!"

Zhou Yu suddenly slammed forward, landing right in front of Xue Lanyi, where she was immediately confronted with the withered bones that Xue Lanyi was tightly embracing.

Those are the remains of the young prince.

If Wei Zhang is the murderer, then he and Xue Lanyi are accomplices.

Together they killed Yi Yi's flesh and blood, who was still an infant.

How could this be? How could this be?

Zhou Yu panicked and his fingers trembled as he took out a silver needle and examined the whites of Xue Lanyi's eyes.

Xue Lanyi's eyes were like candles about to burn out, their light dimming inch by inch.

She can force herself to like someone she doesn't really love, but she can't live with a murderer who killed her own flesh and blood.

She has tried very, very hard to adapt to this prison.

But there's still no way to solve it.

She seemed to be neither crying nor laughing, having burned away the last drop of emotion, no longer yearning for life.

The needle that Zhou Yu had taken out also stopped.

A moment later, the silver needle was quietly inserted back into the needle case.

"I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do."

"How is that possible?"

He clearly saved Xue Lanyi last night, so how could he not save her?

How could that be?

With bloodshot eyes filled with murderous intent, Wei Zhang forcefully pressed Zhou Yu's neck down and forced him to stand in front of Xue Lanyi.

Zhou Yu shrank her neck, not daring to look at anyone, and just kept repeating "I'm sorry".

Xue Lanyi grabbed Wei Zhang, who was as frantic as a wild beast.

The movement of grabbing his clothes was very light, but Wei Zhang felt as if he were carrying a thousand pounds. He bent down and said, "Yiyi, you must live. You promised me you would live."

He forced a smile, but it looked more like a cry.

“Wei, Wei Zhang…”

"The second half of the sentence is..."

Xue Lanyi's breathing became labored, her arms slowly tightening, pulling him to within a fist's distance. Her weak voice whispered in his ear, "Xue Lanyi will never forgive Wei Zhang in this life, but I hope..."

"I hope we'll never meet again in the next life." With her last ounce of strength, she slapped Wei Zhang with her bloodied hand.

Snap!

Wei Zhang froze on the spot, and her hand suddenly fell from the side of his face.

The pain remains, but the fragrance of the daughter has dissipated.

Wei Zhang suddenly grabbed her drooping hand and placed it beside his face. "Yiyi, our child is fine, he's perfectly fine."

"I'll take you to see our child, please open your eyes, okay?"

He hesitated, helpless, powerless, until finally, his voice trailed off, "Yiyi, I'm sorry, I was wrong, I was wrong, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."

The man screamed in agony.

There was no response.

The pattering rain fell, drowning out the long howls to the sky.

Finally, he uttered his last words in a hoarse voice, "Yiyi, I'll let you go, I'll let you go..."

As long as you're alive...

Inside the hall, a sudden summer rainstorm caused the gardenias in the courtyard to swirl in the wind.

The delicate white petals brushed against her brows, her white dress fell into the gradually cooling pool of blood, but could no longer soothe her eyes and brows.

Spring has passed, and the gardenias of this season have withered.

The lilies, meanwhile, are growing towards the wind and the sunlight.

The same white petals planted in the same courtyard, ultimately, due to different blooming times, cannot be enjoyed together.

...

Another year has passed, and it's the third month of spring.

The bamboo grove behind the Duke's mansion is lush and green, and a gentle breeze blows from near to far, sounding like the clear laughter of young boys and girls.

He was running, she was chasing, and they were laughing.

In the bamboo pavilion deep in the bamboo forest, they raised their glasses together: "Happy birthday to Yiyi, may you live a long and healthy life!"

"May you live to be a hundred years old."

The wind has died down, and the crisp sound of glasses clinking echoes through the woods.

Zhou Yu squatted on the grave mound, four graves, three cups of wine.

Zhou Yu clinked glasses with Xie Qingyun, Lu Lin, and Su Yin one by one. When his gaze fell on the last grave, he suddenly smiled.

"I'll tell you a secret!" Zhou Yu said in a low, mysterious voice, as if he were still a teenager, "I'm going to do something really daring, something even Xuan-ge wouldn't do!"

Birds chirped in front of the grave, but no one asked them any questions or scolded them for being noisy.

A complex look crossed his brow as he stroked Su Yin's tombstone. "I'm not a coward anymore. Can you forgive me?"

A long wind rises again, rustling the bamboo leaves.

The lilies in the south of the mountain swirl freely in the wind, drifting higher and farther to the blue sea and sky.

-----------------------

Author's note: Okay, that's the end of the main text.

I'm ending the main text here because I think the best outcome for Yiyi right now is to be free and unrestrained.

However, the three main characters in the book have not yet reached the end of their lives. In the first epilogue, I will resolve the foreshadowing about Yi Yi's whereabouts and the child, as well as the daily life of the widower chasing after his wife.

To put it another way, the male lead's ending isn't about having everything but losing the female lead. I had his ending planned around the middle of writing the story, and I personally think it should be the most fitting crematorium ending for his character.

In addition, this book is actually not very popular, so the author doesn't plan to try to climb too many charts. The extra chapters will still be updated daily as a way of thanking the readers who have been following the book and not keeping you waiting too long.

Thank you all for taking the time to learn about the lives of Yiyi, Azhang, and Axuan. See you tomorrow for the bonus chapter! Thank you! [cat emoji]
