New wife

New wife

Staring at the display screen indicating the end of the selection, ignoring the not-too-big-button "back" button in the lower right corner, Alina thought to herself: That's fine, she was indeed quite curious.

The moment the fair fingers touched her, all the furry people present were shocked and felt extremely complicated. Immediately afterwards, the live stream chat was filled with screams.

The furry creatures: [Regretful jpg.] I should have competed for last place!

According to the procedure, after choosing a theme, Alina should have lay down in the holographic capsule, but she was thinking about the shy giant panda.

She went to a corner and gently comforted (scratch that) petted the giant panda before happily and expectantly lying down in the holographic capsule.

After the familiar dizziness subsided, Alina opened her eyes to find herself in an entirely unfamiliar room.

White walls, red decorative lines, a black built-in TV, and a few scattered, unidentified cool gray patterns. Looking down, there's a gray sofa with black trim; looking up, there's a starry sky ceiling. The entire decor is intricate and luxurious, yet strangely minimalist.

"Snap, snap, snap"

She heard a rustling sound, like peeling, and pressed her hand against the moderately firm sofa. Alina got up and followed the sound.

After walking a few steps, a transparent sliding door with a water ripple pattern appeared in Alina's eyes, but that was not her focus at the moment.

Behind the transparent door, the flat photo I had just selected instantly came to life in three dimensions.

His waist-length red hair was tied up with a black headband with dark gold trim. He wore a white shirt embroidered with fire foxes and red trousers that accentuated his muscular waist.

As Alina approached, the lake-like kitchen door opened automatically. Pei Jingnian, who had already heard the sound, stopped what he was doing, found a good angle, and turned his head to say, "Hungry? It'll be ready soon."

Before the other person even turned around, Alina noticed his exceptionally handsome profile. When he turned his head, his entire exquisite and gorgeous face was revealed to her.

The man's face was like a richly colored painting. His complexion was as white as snow, his lips were crimson, his nose was high and straight, and his long, curled eyelashes resembled butterfly wings stained with ink, exquisitely beautiful. His narrow, fox-like eyes possessed a unique and alluring charm.

Although the other person was handsome, he would never be mistaken for being male. Even without noticing his unbuttoned shirt, one could clearly see the strong muscle lines beneath it. Moreover, he had sharp eyebrows and a clean jawline.

Sure enough, just as she expected, the man who looked exceptionally handsome in the photo appeared even more glamorous and alluring in "reality." Appreciating beauty is an innate quality of elves, and she naturally lingered a little longer on his face.

But it's not necessarily true that it's exceptionally beautiful; after all, while there aren't many elves with this style, they aren't exactly rare either.

Pulling her thoughts back from their escapist reverie, Alina asked herself: 'What is my current identity? What is my mission?'

A line of text, neither too big nor too small, smoothly appeared on the light blue explanation panel.

[Identity: Newlywed wife; Mission: None]

"!"

What is that?!

Is the machine malfunctioning?

Alina's pupils dilated as if she were stunned, and she took a half-step back, her pale pink lips forming an "O" shape in surprise.

She took two steps forward and leaned closer to the explanation panel. She studied it carefully three times, but there was absolutely no possibility of misreading those few words.

Alina bit her lower lip with her pearly white teeth, her heart pounding. She thought to herself: There's no doubt, there's definitely something wrong with this personalized holographic experience!

In an instant, six different holographic experiences flashed through Alina's mind like a movie playing at double speed.

Chu Yanbing's patient guidance, He Yanzhou's pursuit on campus, Gu Hansheng's meticulous care, Lu Jingbai's "heroic rescue," Pei Jingnian's "newlywed wife"...

She was just a pet keeper.

Why don't we see furry creatures in the virtual world, but instead see them interacting with their owners?

The question that had been lingering in Alina's mind ever since the holographic capsule appeared has finally been answered.

They're pursuing her!

I want her to be my partner!

At first glance, it seems perfectly logical, and upon closer inspection, the logic is also airtight.

But that's absurd!

First of all, she was just taking care of the furry creature, so how did that make them all fall for her?

Secondly, how could she possibly be interested in everyone?! She just pets her pets and cooks all day; she doesn't do anything else!

Finally, even if they were genuinely attracted to each other, why would they use such a "fake" method of pursuing someone?

So there must be something wrong!

Shaking her dizzy head vigorously, Alina decided to start untying from the beginning.

A sudden chill ran through my fingertips, and at the same time, a gentle, pleasant male voice reached my ears: "Here, dinner's ready."

Her right hand was taken by the other person's hand, which was covered in water droplets, and a red crystal-like fruit and vegetable platter was placed in her hand. Before she could even react, her other hand had already reflexively risen up and firmly held the fruit platter.

"They're gone."

With a smile in his eyes, Pei Jingnian watched the dazed girl, guessing that she hadn't yet recovered from the world change.

Reaching out, he lifted the other man's hands slightly, letting out a muffled chuckle, his voice filled with indulgence: "Back to your senses?"

A cool, refreshing touch came from the back of her hand, and Alina snapped back to reality. Holding the fruit platter, she quickly pulled it into her arms while taking a step back, successfully distancing herself from the other person's still-cool hand.

"Uh-huh."

After a polite response, just as Alina turned to leave, a fair and strong arm suddenly slipped into her side. Her hand was suddenly empty, and she instinctively looked in the direction the fruit plate had left, only to be met with a pair of exceptionally beautiful, smiling dark eyes.

"I'll get it, follow me."

As soon as he finished speaking, Pei Jingnian casually ruffled Alina's hair, leaving her to awkwardly touch her own head.

Aside from her father and mother, this was the first time a stranger had touched her head!

[The Heavenly Generals have been turned upside down, family members! jpg.]

Alina felt her throne as a warrior had been challenged!

Just as the real Pei Jingnian was quite satisfied with his head pat, the virtual Pei Jingnian, carrying Alina's dinner, walked straight to the other side of the sofa and lightly touched the silver-gray pattern on the wall.

A wine-red table was folded and unfolded, accompanied by two soft "thumps" as chairs fell to the ground.

"Come and eat, what are you standing in the kitchen for?" Pei Jingnian urged, putting down the fruit plate.

He seemed so natural, not at all bothered by offending her!

A fighting instinct surged through her blood. Alina was initially puzzled, but then she suddenly remembered her current identity—a newlywed wife!

Ha, will she just give in like that?

She could guess without even using her brain that these scenarios were specially designed by the other party, who wanted to get a partner for free without even pursuing her.

Don't even think about it!

Alina tilted her head and thought to herself: Wait, my thoughts seem to have wandered off again?

The small flame of the battle was extinguished with a "whoosh".

What could she do?

Putting aside the fact that this is a virtual world, the most important thing is that she is currently weak, pitiful, and helpless.

Alina took a few deep breaths, closed her eyes tightly, walked to the man, and her slightly tired gaze fell on the dining table that had "appeared out of thin air."

His tone held a hint of doubt: "Are these all hidden in the wall?"

Feeling mentally exhausted, she became somewhat careless.

Under normal circumstances, Alina wouldn't ask the question if she wasn't sure it would expose her.

"Yes, the silver-gray patterns are all built into the furniture. Different patterns correspond to different furniture. For example, the pattern here is a table with food inside. You can take a good look at it after you finish eating."

As he spoke, Pei Jingnian walked around the dining table and gentlemanly pulled out a chair for Alina.

"Thank you." After thanking her and sitting down, Alina noticed the empty table and asked in confusion, "Where's your dinner?"

After saying that, he pinched the fork with his hand.

“I’ll just drink the nutrient solution,” Pei Jingnian said.

With the fork hovering in the air, Alina thought of Gu Hansheng, the first person to drink nutrient solution in front of her, and asked curiously, "Is the nutrient solution tasty?"

"Not bad." Pei Jingnian rested one hand on the table, his beautiful fox-like eyes fixed on Alina, and said with a smile.

It doesn't taste good at all.

"If it doesn't taste very good, why not cook it?"

The naive elf, unaware that this was a "food desert" in another world, asked this question.

If he were eating with other orcs, Pei Jingnian would have had the robot serve the meat, but Alina was a delicate flower fairy who ate vegetarian food and could cook cooked food, and he didn't want to show the primitive and rude side of orcs in front of her.

“My cooking didn’t taste good.” He simply denied it, while reaching out and touching the silver-gray pattern on the wall.

A small crack appeared in the wall instantly, and a mechanical arm emerged from it, steadily handing out a tube of pale pink nutrient solution.

"I see."

She picked up a perfectly shaped and sized piece of fruit with her fork and popped it into her mouth. The sweet juice burst between her teeth, and she decided to make it a midnight snack for him that night.

Alina couldn't accept the treatment he gave her lover with a clear conscience because she knew perfectly well that she wouldn't accept his advances.

Even if this was a trap set by the other party, no one would think it was wrong if she accepted it.

But if she were to explicitly refuse now, she was afraid it would affect her petting of the fluffy fur.

Everyone here has a furry creature, and everyone has entered a virtual world whose true purpose she doesn't yet know. Alina doesn't believe this is a coincidence.

Putting aside her only two hobbies—rubbing fluffy things—she's practically living on points earned from rubbing fluffy things!

Therefore, she could not be too cautious.

A faint aroma of chicken wafted to Alina's nose, and a thought flashed through her mind.

She felt it was somewhat important, but when she tried to think about it again, she just couldn't remember it.

One ate vegetarian food, and the other drank nutrient solution. Dinner time passed quickly. The dishes didn't even need to be washed by a robot. Alina just turned on the tap and rinsed them a couple of times, and they were clean.

She placed the clean plates directly on the counter and watched the robot collect them before leaving the kitchen.

Through the transparent window, Alina knew it was already dark, but she would have to spend the night in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people. Suddenly, she felt uncomfortable all over and had no idea what to do.

"Come sit down." Just as Alina was at a loss, Pei Jingnian, who was already sitting on the sofa, raised his hand to invite her.
