Chapter Fifteen: So Warm
You Suian was drowsy listening to the evaluation exercises during this lesson.
Fortunately, the 40 minutes didn't take too long, and You Suian finally waited for the bell to ring.
She proudly handed the gluten she had bought to Tang Qingyue: "You really like to eat this, but you're too lazy to go, so I brought it for you. Don't I look like I've just returned from a hunt?"
Tang Qingyue accepted it with a doting expression, feigning surprise and delight: "Oh, you still remember me? I thought you were only thinking about so-and-so."
You Sui'an laughed and said, "Get lost."
However, Tang Qingyue hasn't been feeling well lately, so she's not planning to eat spicy food and will put it aside for now.
You Suian seemed to realize what was happening and was somewhat annoyed, but she still handed two packets of sweet and sour dried fish to Tang Qingyue with a smile.
Tang Qingyue smiled. How could someone who seemed so cold have such a gentle smile, especially since she rarely smiled at others?
You Sui'an was stunned: "Has anyone ever told you that you have a beautiful smile? Like an iceberg melting."
"Stop, stop, stop, that's an exaggeration." Tang Qingyue was a little embarrassed.
Then she continued, "Don't think that just because you praise me you can make me happy and then not accept your dried fish."
That's very greedy.
You Sui'an was amused and burst out laughing.
It turns out that it's indeed easier to get sick when the weather gets cold.
Tang Qingyue has not been feeling well for the past few days.
A gentle night breeze was blowing. You Suian was holding Tang Qingyue's hand, preparing to return to the dormitory, when she gently let go and said weakly, "Wait for me a moment, my stomach isn't feeling well."
You Suian nodded and sat in the classroom writing some multiple-choice questions. It wasn't until she finished all the political multiple-choice questions and then some math multiple-choice questions that she realized a lot of time had passed and Tang Qingyue still hadn't returned.
You Sui'an had a vague sense of unease, so she threw down her pen and went to the restroom to look for someone.
After she went outside, she found that most of the classrooms in the building had turned off their lights, and there were hardly any people left in the building.
You Suian hesitated for a moment. Tang Qingyue was easily embarrassed, and calling her name in the restroom would definitely make her feel awkward for a long time. Maybe... he should wait a little longer?
You Sui'an stared at his watch, feeling somewhat annoyed. Why was it ticking so slowly?
55, 56...59.
You Sui'an couldn't wait any longer and softly called out, "Qingyue?"
Her weak voice came through, telling You Suian to wait a little longer, just two minutes.
After a while, Tang Qingyue finally came out. She was almost unsteady on her feet, her pale face was bloodless, her cold eyes were somewhat unfocused, and her eyebrows were tightly furrowed. You Suian hurriedly ran over to support her.
"What's the matter?"
"My stomach hurts a lot."
You Sui'an looked around and saw that most of the classrooms had turned off their lights, with only a few scattered lights remaining.
She first helped Tang Qingyue to the wall so she could lean against it, and then ran back to check if there were any teachers in the classroom or office.
Tang Qingyue was in so much pain in her stomach that she couldn't walk. She squatted down against the wall of a nearby classroom, clutching her stomach, and then, not caring whether the ground was dirty or not, she just sat down.
You Sui'an saw that the classroom lights were still on. But only Li Yunxing was still sitting there doing her homework.
There were no teachers.
You Sui'an turned and ran, anxious, wondering if there would be no one in the office if he stayed any longer.
She went back and brought the non-insulated cup she had specially bought to warm her hands.
I wonder if Tang Qingyue is cold now.
The water has gradually cooled down, but we can refill it later.
Li Yunxing followed after him. He had stayed behind because he was worried about You Sui'an.
You Suian usually doesn't like to stay in the classroom; he runs to the dormitory as soon as get out of class is over.
He had planned to finish this big math problem and leave today, but he was afraid that he would forget it after sleeping on it tomorrow.
He had finished all the questions, but You Sui'an was still sitting there, not moving. Had something happened?
Li Yunxing didn't leave. So seeing You Sui'an's anxious appearance only made him more worried.
There was still a faint light coming from the office, You Sui'an reassured himself.
When they ran over, they found that the light was on in the classroom next door, and there were only a few students and no teachers inside.
Suddenly she thought of something, but it was only a faint glimmer of hope.
She went downstairs to check the offices of the Chinese and English teachers, but no one was there.
She sighed, turned around, and left.
There were three stairwells on each floor. You Suian didn't like going back in reverse, so she went up one of the stairwells. She didn't notice Li Yunxing behind her.
Although You Suian was a little disappointed at not finding her teacher, she didn't slow down. She quickly ran back to Tang Qingyue's side.
She was in a hurry, but she didn't show it on her face. Her voice was soft and reassuring.
"We can't find the teacher, let's go to the guardhouse to make a phone call, and then go home."
Tang Qingyue nodded. Her forehead was covered in cold sweat.
You Suian finally relaxed her tense nerves. She looked around and saw that the classroom lights were all off.
Only the motion-activated lights in the hallway were still flickering on and off.
Suddenly she saw Li Yunxing; his eyes shone brightly in the darkness.
You Sui'an didn't think about why he was there; he just felt great that there was finally someone else.
She first fetched some hot water and then handed it to Li Yunxing.
“Come on, lend a hand and help Qingyue onto my back. She probably doesn’t have the strength to jump up. Then help her a little when we go down the stairs.” You Suian glanced at Li Yunxing.
"Should I do it?" Li Yunxing was a little worried that the two of them would fall to the ground together.
Tang Qingyue said in a hoarse voice, "No need." She was not used to physical contact with strangers.
Moreover, she trusted You Suian. She was certain that You Suian would catch her safely.
Furthermore, although You Suian might not care, given the relationship between You Suian and Li Yunxing, she shouldn't get too close to Li Yunxing.
You Sui'an was self-aware; although his physical strength wasn't great, he was strong enough to carry the slender Tang Qingyue on his back. Getting to the school gate wouldn't be a problem; it wasn't difficult at all.
Fortunately, Li Yunxing was quite tall, so Tang Qingyue felt at ease supporting him.
You Sui'an almost ran; the stairs were so bumpy that Tang Qingyue could feel the jolt and trembling.
But You Suian's back was so warm, and the hands on her legs were so strong.
Her hands were clenched tightly, but she tried to relax her arms as she wrapped her arms around You Suian's neck, afraid of strangling him.
Tang Qingyue narrowed her eyes and forced back the tears that hadn't yet come out.
Her throat felt tight.
It must hurt too much, she thought.
Li Yunxing lightly protected her shoulders and back, something Tang Qingyue herself didn't even notice, let alone You Sui'an.
Two or three minutes later, they arrived at the guardhouse. You Suian placed Tang Qingyue on a bench. Tang Qingyue's hands were very cold, so You Suian warmed them with his own hands and then placed the hot water cup that Li Yunxing was holding into Tang Qingyue's hands.
You Suian thought for a moment, then asked Li Yunxing to negotiate with the gatekeeper, and then borrowed a phone to call the homeroom teacher, while he stayed here with Tang Qingyue.
"Tang Qingyue is in so much pain that she can't walk. Call Teacher Li and ask him to talk to the security guard to let her in. Then bring me the phone and I'll call her mother."
After Li Yunxing borrowed the phone, she came to find them. By then, Teacher Li had already answered the phone.
Li Yunxing briefly explained the situation, then turned on the speakerphone and turned the volume up to the maximum.
"I'm not at school right now. I'll have Teacher Jiang take Qingyue home later. He's the one who taught them physics in the first semester. He's on duty in the dorm right now, so he can come over in a bit. If it's too late, we don't need to have her parents come."
Li Yunxing didn't know this Teacher Jiang, but You Suian and Tang Qingyue did, and it was unlikely that anyone else was rushing here now.
Now You Suian gives the phone to Tang Qingyue. Although You Suian has Tang Qingyue's mother's phone number saved in his own phone, he can't remember it.
The call was answered quickly.
"Hello? Mom, it's Yueyue. My tummy hurts so much. My teacher will take me home later, and I'll call you then. Can you come pick me up in a bit?"
"Okay, bye-bye."
Tang Qingyue's complexion has improved slightly now, probably because she has recovered a bit, but she is still feeling very uncomfortable.
Seeing that she wasn't as pale as before, You Suian teased, "Next time we can try carrying her in a princess carry. You won't be able to see my pretty face when I'm carrying you on my back."
Tang Qingyue smiled weakly.
It's so strange, she feels both uncomfortable and wants to laugh at the same time. She has so little energy right now.
Tang Qingyue leaned on You Suian's shoulder, although usually it was You Suian who would lean on her shoulder to be lazy and act spoiled.
Tang Qingyue thought to herself, feeling dazed, "It feels so good to lean on someone." She decided she should lean on You Sui'an more often in the future.
Teacher Jiang arrived quickly in her car. You Suian helped her into the car and waved goodbye.
Tang Qingyue raised the water cup in her hand, intending to return it to You Sui'an.
You Sui'an had already walked a few steps when she said nonchalantly, "I have a thermos cup too, you can take this one."
Tang Qingyue nodded, holding the cup in her hand.
It's so warm.
The sound of the car starting was swallowed up by the boundless night.
You Sui'an looked at it for two seconds, then left with Li Yunxing.
You Sui'an still looked calm and reliable, only his eyes were a little red.
Li Yunxing looked at her. She seemed somewhat vulnerable.
She wasn't particularly striking in appearance; in the darkness of the night, her gentle features were accentuated, tinged with a faint melancholy.
You Suian seems indifferent to many things, which is hard to say whether it's pessimism or optimism. But when faced with a situation, she always subconsciously thinks of the worst possible outcomes, even though past experience has proven them countless times, and those worst results have never actually happened.
For example, if she gets a small cut from a slightly rusty doorknob, she worries that she might get tetanus.
Although she is usually indifferent to many things and doesn't get angry easily, she will subconsciously worry once she cares about something.
You only fear losing something if you care about it.
She had never seen Tang Qingyue so distressed; her mind was a complete mess.
She glanced at Li Yunxing beside her, perhaps she had the same thoughts back then.
Therefore, they are prone to anxiety and fear of loss.
Then I simply cut it in half with one stroke.
Fortunately, they haven't missed it.
Fortunately, they met again.
Perhaps they shouldn't have missed it in the first place.
She was unaware of how vulnerable and innocent she looked. Her bright eyes were hidden in the darkness, and her thin lips were slightly pursed, adding to her tenderness.
At that moment, Li Yunxing was looking back at her. As if sensing her worry, he hesitated for a moment, then reached out and gently patted the back of her hand.
"don’t worry."
Li Yunxing was somewhat surprised that You Sui'an needed him to comfort her. But he still enjoyed the feeling of being relied upon by her.
It was just a polite remark, but it gradually calmed You Sui'an down.
Although Li Yunxing had no idea that she had just been thinking about him too.
You Sui'an smiled, a smile gentler than the night breeze.
So quiet. Like that night.
They both remembered that night, yet neither knew what the other was thinking, and both tacitly kept silent about it.
You Sui'an looked at him again.
He didn't move his gaze.
Time seemed to sink along with the light.
Quietly, in the shadows, no one knew the flickering fire hidden beneath their eyes.
Let's just walk slowly like this.
