Chapter One: He Sees Him Again

Chapter One: He Sees Him Again

Looking at the familiar names in the class group, You Suian fell silent. She had had a vague guess back when she was choosing her subjects.

Back in junior high, Li Yunxing's grades were average because he was bad at science, which dragged down his overall grades. But now, with history as her first choice and politics and geography as her second, there was a high chance that she would choose the same combination as Li Yunxing. She never expected that Li Yunxing would choose a different combination.

Li Yunxing's grades in these subjects were enough to get him into the best class.

She clutched her phone, feeling a headache coming on; how embarrassing would that be later?

On the first day of the second semester of her first year of high school, You Sui'an unexpectedly met Li Yunxing.

Although he was fair-skinned and had big, wet eyes like a puppy, making him look innocent and harmless, You Suian only felt annoyed.

They looked at each other again, then turned their heads almost simultaneously, pulling their suitcases and walking quickly away, leaving only the rumbling sound of the tires rolling.

They all seemed eager to leave as soon as possible.

You Suian walked a little slower, and simply slowed down her pace. She heard a barely perceptible "tsk," and just thought to herself, "childish," before giving up on the thought.

However, her eyes, which had been somewhat listless due to staying up late, suddenly brightened up, probably because she was angry.

Li Yunxing also felt a little uneasy, her lowered eyes seemingly lost in thought.

After quickly packing his things, You Suian went to the next dormitory to wait for Tang Qingyue, who was her deskmate last semester. Fortunately, they were still in the same class this semester.

After Tang Qingyue finished packing, they went back to the classroom, chattering excitedly all the way to Sui'an.

Although Tang Qingyue didn't talk much, she was gentle and agreeable, occasionally saying a few words, which softened her somewhat aloof expression.

They decided to choose a spot towards the back, so they simply went in through the back door.

Unexpectedly, he saw Li Yunxing right away, although it was just the back of his head. You Sui'an was a little annoyed.

It's him again.

"Why don't we sit over there?" Tang Qingyue pointed.

I thought visiting Sui'an was great. It was located in the middle to the back, which made me feel very safe, and the view was also quite open.

"Okay," came You Suian's sweet voice.

Hearing the familiar voice, Li Yunxing suddenly felt a little lost and simply lay down on the table to catch up on some sleep, but she just couldn't fall asleep.

The more Li Yunxing thought about it, the angrier he became. Sure enough, You Suian was too annoying, and he was so angry that he couldn't sleep.

However, the homeroom teacher arrived shortly afterward. He walked with a somewhat nonchalant gait and was a very young math teacher, whom You Sui'an was also very familiar with.

He was Teacher Li, the homeroom teacher of You Suian's class last semester, so she could guess that Teacher Li would ask the students to introduce themselves later, and then she would sneak out.

Sure enough, after explaining his situation, he prepared to make a quick getaway.

"Now you can all get to know each other. This is my math class, so I'll leave now. Don't feel pressured. Introduce yourselves one by one according to your student ID numbers. I'll be the last one. Hey, Zhao Zhi, come to the office next door and call me later."

Coincidentally, Zhao Zhi was also his student from the previous semester, which made it even easier for him to use him.

I felt much more at ease once the teacher left.

People from Sheniu speak freely, from their favorite celebrities and games to how many cats they have at home.

People with social anxiety might just introduce themselves by name and then leave without feeling awkward, since there are no teachers around.

Li Yunxing was clearly the second type. He said a few words and left. He inadvertently met You Suian's gaze, but immediately looked away.

When it was time for You Sui'an to introduce herself, Li Yunxing thought that since You Sui'an had looked at her, she should look back at her too.

She can attract a lot of attention as soon as she opens her mouth. Her soft voice, bright eyes, slightly raised smile, and pure face always make people feel good.

Only Li Yunxing knew how much she hated her.

Whether You Suian noticed him looking at her or not, she shifted her gaze in his direction, but it was only a faint, casual glance.

She only said a couple of words casually before leaving, seemingly uninterested, but she didn't come across as perfunctory, because her bright, clear eyes always made people feel that she was sincere to everyone.

Li Yunxing frowned.

He had only met his deskmate Zhao Zhi today, but since Zhao Zhi was his roommate and was very outgoing, the two had already become familiar with each other.

Seeing him frown, Zhao Zhi teased him in a low voice, "Why are you so dejected when you're introducing yourself in math class? Do you actually like math class?"

Li Yunxing felt disgusted: "You can't like math class no matter what you like."

For some reason, when he put You Suian and math class together, he unexpectedly found You Suian quite agreeable.

A short while later, Zhao Zhi finished speaking and went to call the homeroom teacher back.

With a wave of his hand, Teacher Li told them to chat with the students around them and get to know each other.

You Sui'an blinked, then suddenly became interested and asked Tang Qingyue curiously, "What's your name, classmate?"

Tang Qingyue found it amusing that she was getting into it, so she mimicked her tone: "My name is You Suian, hello there!"

You Suian laughed heartily, then praised, "What a wonderful name! She must be a smart, beautiful, kind, lovely girl that everyone loves and flowers adore."

Tang Qingyue couldn't help but laugh, and tapped her hand helplessly, telling her to tone it down.

You Suian just thought her deskmate was so cute, even though she seemed aloof.

Zhao Zhi was quite satisfied with his roommate and deskmate, and chattered on and on. When he heard about Li Yunxing's game rank, his eyes lit up. Great, now he'd have someone to guide him.

No specific knowledge was taught today; the teachers only gave a brief explanation of the table of contents and subject concepts.

Just enough time to leisurely stroll around Sui'an. When she first started staying up late, she was determined to change, but now that she's addicted, she just goes with the flow.

She just didn't expect that she wouldn't be able to get up the next morning. You Suian vaguely heard her roommate calling her, and then she fell back asleep.

When the last roommate left, she woke You Suian with some surprise: "Huh? I thought you were already up. Hurry up and get up, you're going to be late."

You Suian suddenly rolled over, thinking to himself, "It's all over." He thanked them, quickly washed up, grabbed some milk and bread, and ran to the classroom.

She'd already missed the morning reading session, even though she'd skipped many before—after all, it didn't count as being late. But it was only the first day, and You Suian felt a little embarrassed. Luckily, the homeroom teacher wasn't in the classroom.

You Suian became increasingly bold, skipping classes for several days in a row. As a result, when he entered the classroom today, he found his homeroom teacher sitting on the podium. You Suian met his gaze, gave an embarrassed smile, and quickly slipped inside.

The early morning reading sessions are arranged in the order of history, politics, and geography. There is no early morning reading session on Sundays, and no early morning reading session either. It's a sign that the school still has some humanity and knows to leave some time for them to catch up on sleep.

Today is Friday. She took out her political science book and started reading it seriously. Her back was straight, and she looked quite well-behaved, but she was looking forward to Sunday.

D City No. 1 Middle School is absolutely terrifying. It's located deep in the mountains, with strict management and a tight schedule. And what's most infuriating is that it only allows boarding students, even though transportation here is indeed not very convenient.

Liberal arts students are suffering terribly – early morning study sessions, late evening study sessions, and four evening self-study sessions – it's enough to drive anyone crazy.

Science students weren't exactly blessed either; they didn't have early morning or late-night study sessions, but they used that time for self-study.

Holidays are only once every two weeks. Cell phones are not allowed, and novels and MP3 players will be confiscated. Even snacks like instant noodles and potato chips are limited to three packs.

You Suian and Li Yunxing both went directly from junior high school. The junior high and high schools were pretty much the same, but at least the junior high school was in the city.

At that time, Li Yunxing was curious as to why You Sui'an, with his personality, would come to D City No. 1 High School, since D City had more than just this one key high school.

"Hmph. My mom said I have no self-discipline at all, so she dumped me here. I clearly love studying."

Li Yunxing can still recall her sullen and somewhat guilty expression, and a slight smile appeared on her lips.

By the time he realized he was laughing, it was too late. Was he gloating?

Li Yunxing silently berated herself in her heart. How could a person be so despicable? No matter how much you hate someone, you shouldn't gloat over their misfortune. However, she was completely unaware that her smile did not stem from You Sui'an's lateness.

This time, Li Yunxing stopped laughing, picked up his book and started reciting the text, trying to use knowledge to shock his wretched brain.

This trip to Sui'an is so annoying!

Just two minutes later, You Sui'an's voice rang out again. She was the class representative for Chinese language.

"Today's morning reading assignments have been arranged. Please note that we will have a dictation test 15 minutes before the end of get out of class today."

Everyone quickly began their morning reading, each busy with their own tasks.

You Suian stared at his own handwriting on the blackboard for a while, somewhat disgusted, thinking, "How can it be so ugly?"

Li Yunxing didn't know why, but he always felt that You Suian was troubled by her blackboard writing. After all, her handwriting was usually beautiful, but her blackboard writing was always unsatisfactory.

You Sui'an turned his head and saw Li Yunxing smiling.

What is he laughing at? Does he think the task is too easy? No, is he mocking his own bad handwriting?

You Suian glanced at him almost imperceptibly, then quickly looked away.

Li Yunxing was a little confused. Was You Sui'an glaring at him? Yes, wasn't he? The corners of his mouth gradually drooped.

Li Yunxing thought resentfully, "Is he such a disgusting person?" But he did feel a little guilty. Could it be that he was seen laughing at her? After all, the view was quite open when you came in through the front door.

No, no, You Suian has been like this for more than just a day or two. A year ago, the way You Suian looked at him changed; he was always cold towards him.

The eyes, once as bright and moist as the crescent moon in my memory, are now completely different.

Li Yunxing was always thinking about why this was, but he was frustrated to find that he couldn't figure it out.

But clearly... clearly she was the one who inexplicably ignored me, stopped talking to me, and deleted my contact information. I sent her friend requests every day, and it took almost a week before she finally accepted.

Afterwards, Li Yunxing tried to find topics to talk about, but all he got were perfunctory answers like "um" and "oh," so he stopped trying to embarrass himself.

Li Yunxing pursed her lips and gave a soft hum. She really was annoying.

Zhao Zhi originally wanted to ask about the meaning of the character "Li Yunxing". It wasn't marked in the textbook, and the teacher seemed to have explained it, but he was a bit distracted and didn't take notes.

But seeing Li Yunxing's face shifting between melancholy, confusion, and defiance, he finally couldn't help but ask, "Dude, did you learn how to change faces?"

Li Yunxing glared at him and turned her head away.

"Wait a minute, let me see your Chinese textbook, okay?" Zhao Zhi remembered his purpose and nudged Li Yunxing.

"Okay." Two seconds later, "Oh dear, but I've changed my expression now. I'm the bad guy now."

Zhao Zhi let out a howl and turned to borrow a Chinese textbook from the student behind him.

Li Yunxing also started memorizing. There was still some extra time before the dictation, so he memorized another ancient poem.

The sound of reciting gradually thinned out. You Suian looked up at the time. There was only one minute left before the dictation. She picked up her dictation book and prepared to read.

The Chinese teacher teaches two classes, which is a slightly more humane arrangement by the school; the two classes have their morning reading together, so the teacher doesn't have to get up early every week. After all, morning reading only covers Chinese and English.

The teacher went to another class for dictation this time, so You Sui'an is here to give them a dictation test.

For some reason, Li Yunxing kept appearing in her sight, and You Suian looked away again.

She wasn't the only one who found it strange; Li Yunxing was also quite stunned. All he could hear was You Sui'an's voice, but he couldn't quite make out what she was saying, even though she spoke very clearly.

The classroom was too quiet.

It was so quiet that Li Yunxing could only hear You Sui'an's voice.

It was so quiet that Li Yunxing couldn't hear her own inner voice.

February was still quite cold, but a blush gradually crept onto Li Yunxing's cheeks, and he began to feel warm all over.

"Is he wearing too many layers? Or is it because the windows are closed too tightly and he's feeling stuffy?" he wondered.

Fifteen minutes can feel so long, almost unbearable.

"Okay, pass the dictation notebooks to the first row."

Li Yunxing let out a breath, unsure whether it was relief or something else.
