Chapter Twelve Sports Meet
The ten-odd days passed in a flash. They spent several days at home; it seems that good times always fly by.
The sports meet is here, and this should be the last chance to catch your breath this year, so You Suian is taking a well-deserved rest.
Besides, there are already a bunch of annoying student council members guarding the entrance to the sports field to prevent people from leaving, there are also people checking inside the field to prevent people from doing homework, and there are also people checking the classrooms regularly to see if anyone is sneaking back.
You Sui'an was afraid of trouble and too lazy to resist anything, so he quietly stayed in the sports field, found a bench under the shade of a tree to sit on, and occasionally went for a walk and chatted with Tang Qingyue. When he got tired of chatting, he would close his eyes and go to sleep.
However, such opportunities are rare. October in Province C is still very hot, and short sleeves are still the most common clothing. Everyone likes to hide in the shade, so there are often no empty seats on the benches.
You Sui'an was lucky; everyone was excited on the first day, looking around the sports field and cheering for their classmates. So even though she arrived late, she was still given a place to sit.
Over the next two days, people weren't as excited. Many found a place to rest, and some studious students even secretly studied vocabulary words because doing homework would be too much of a target.
You Suian nonchalantly grabbed a school uniform jacket, unfolded it, and tossed it aside. The outer layer was on the ground, while she used the inner layer to sit on. She sat down, leaving about half the space empty.
She waved to Tang Qingyue, inviting her to sit down together. A gentle breeze was blowing, making it a truly pleasant experience.
"Speaking of which, what about you and Li Yunxing lately..." Tang Qingyue had clearly sensed something and was now teasing her.
You Suian stared into the distance, seemingly engrossed in something. Then she turned to Tang Qingyue and smiled, "I'll win him over after graduation. I haven't even started pursuing him yet."
This was indeed You Sui'an's style. Tang Qingyue was somewhat surprised, but not entirely unexpected.
However, judging from Li Yunxing's appearance, it seems there's no need to chase after her anymore. Perhaps they'll have to compete to see who can prepare to pursue her first.
"You two are really interesting." Although Tang Qingyue didn't know what it felt like to be in a relationship, You Suian and Li Yunxing looked very happy.
You Sui'an's eyes lit up: "There's something even more fun, do you want to hear it?"
Tang Qingyue looked at her with great curiosity.
You Sui'an found it somewhat amusing to see her looking like a curious child.
You Sui'an talked about everything from the moment she first saw him to how they became acquainted and how she had teased him...
Tang Qingyue couldn't help but sigh at her perverse sense of humor.
"Sometimes I feel like I've become inexplicably childish."
There's always been a photo in You Sui'an's favorites list, even though their chat history has been cleared many times due to deleting friends or some other reason.
Perhaps You Suian forgot, but she is now glad that she doesn't have the habit of checking her collection records, and some memories have not been erased by her back then.
Back then, when Li Yunxing and she were arguing, it was just like elementary school students fighting, with each of them calling the other an idiot.
You Suian suddenly said, "I'm an idiot," and Li Yunxing replied without thinking, "That's more like it."
You Suian's typing speed was very fast; after sending that sentence, he immediately said "You're an idiot," just a little faster than Li Yunxing's sentence.
Then You Suian retracted the message that insulted him and took a screenshot to mock Li Yunxing.
No matter how quickly Li Yunxing withdrew, it was to no avail; You Sui'an had already preserved the evidence.
Li Yunxing could only send a lot of periods.
You Sui'an was lazy, so he simply copied and pasted it three times to form a long message, and then sent it to him.
Then she pressed her face against him and taunted, "I copied it, quickly, in large quantities."
Li Yunxing was furious.
She couldn't help but laugh. Tang Qingyue objectively commented, "At most three years old."
You Sui'an's laughter was as casual as she was, and it lingered for quite a while.
Actually, there are times when I'm not so naive.
You Suian asked, "Do you remember those holidays when the school made us arrive at 8 a.m.? I think it was a holiday."
"Hmm, it seems there is such a thing." Tang Qingyue nodded.
You Sui'an's eyes seemed to hold a hint of nostalgia: "So that day I had to stay up all night to finish my homework. But Li Yunxing hadn't started writing yet either; he went back to see his grandmother and didn't have much time to write."
Then, late at night, they would work on their homework together. Every half hour, they would share their progress with each other.
You Sui'an only does his homework selectively, and because he's quick-witted, he finishes it in two or three hours.
She told Li Yunxing that she was going to sleep.
However, she suddenly had a bright idea and asked Li Yunxing to send her a message.
[Meteorite]: ?
【^o^】: [Auto-reply] Keep it up!
After that, You Suian asked him to send her a message every half hour, and then she went to sleep happily.
Ironically, You Suian forgot to change it later. When Yan Yuan contacted her, he was startled by the automatic reply and wondered why she had suddenly created such a stupid thing.
You Suian's face was flushed as he continued, "I don't like checking messages, and sometimes I'm too lazy to reply. Often, I only reply to messages from half a month ago this week. Over time, very few people use WeChat to chat with me anymore. I'm happy to have some peace and quiet."
Of course, this excludes very important people; she will respond seriously to them, but she's too lazy to initiate conversations.
Because she and her good friends would always meet, You Sui'an preferred to joke and play around face-to-face.
But she really enjoyed chatting with Li Yunxing, sometimes for one or two hours at a time.
Perhaps it's because of the differences between men and women, but she can't be too clingy with Li Yunxing in real life, at least not for long periods of time when they chat.
You Sui'an changed the subject: "Let me tell you, this kid misunderstood that I like someone else." Anyone would know he was sulking, but this idiot didn't.
She sighed.
However, You Sui'an knew that he was in the wrong first, and that he was the one who misunderstood that he had someone he liked.
She was a little depressed. But once she had talked about it, she quickly recovered; she seemed to have inexhaustible energy.
To put it nicely, they are optimistic and cheerful; to put it bluntly, they are heartless and carefree.
After hearing their complicated story, Tang Qingyue remarked that even TV dramas don't have such a dramatic plot. She added that even their jealousy was equally inexplicable; they were truly a match made in heaven.
You Sui'an quickly composed himself and then boasted happily, "You have no idea how charming I am."
Tang Qingyue looked at her beautiful face, speechless, thinking to herself that she just didn't know it.
“Back when he hated me, he was worried I was cold, so he handed me his coat and secretly added me as a game friend so I could help him.” She raised her head as she spoke.
You Sui'an is now like a peacock spreading its tail feathers, making Tang Qingyue laugh uncontrollably.
...
After about an hour or two, they were both a little tired. They drank some water and then leaned against each other, closing their eyes for a short rest.
I don't know how much time passed, but a crisp sound rang in my ears.
“You Sui’an—” someone was calling her.
She opened her eyes, blinked, and seemed not quite used to the intense light; the world seemed dark and gloomy.
A figure was approaching her, and her eyes gradually adjusted to the bright environment; the world was slowly becoming clear.
When he walked up to her, You Suian opened her eyes completely.
It was as if, at that moment, he ignited the world and brought color to it.
She smiled at Li Yunxing. A bright and warm smile.
Li Yunxing also felt that everything had lost its color, and that You Sui'an was the only source of color.
"It's almost my turn. Do you want to come and see how I crush those guys?" Li Yunxing looked at her expectantly.
You Suian chuckled and replied slowly, "Okay."
She used one hand to support herself as she slowly rose to her feet, following Li Yunxing at a leisurely pace.
The sun was still very strong, but thankfully You Sui'an had applied sunscreen beforehand. Although she usually hates applying sunscreen because it's a hassle, it was quite funny that she was using an umbrella.
You Suian kept staring at Li Yunxing. The sunlight was a bit dazzling, but Li Yunxing seemed like an even brighter source of light, and You Suian was somewhat mesmerized by her.
One lap around the school track is 200 meters, so 3000 meters would be 15 laps.
She felt dizzy when she saw the number.
You Suian usually gets exhausted after running just two laps, so she was really worried that Li Yunxing would faint halfway through the run.
Fortunately, he wasn't running too fast; he was in the middle of the pack, and his speed was quite consistent.
As You Suian watched him run lap after lap, she was somewhat surprised that she actually stood still, since she was the kind of person who would rather sit than stand.
Li Yunxing's face turned completely red, even redder than when he was usually shy, creating two different kinds of beauty.
He passed by her again.
For some reason, You Suian had a sudden urge to hold onto him tightly, even though it was as unbelievable as trying to catch the wind.
Fifth lap.
Sixth lap.
.……
Eleventh lap.
...
Lap 15.
You Sui'an breathed a sigh of relief.
She then realized that Li Yunxing was already quite far ahead in the line. It turned out she had only been looking at him and hadn't paid attention to anyone else.
Li Yunxing frowned. You Sui'an had no expression, but his fingers kept fiddling with something in his pocket, a crumpled piece of paper.
You Suian ran to the finish line. As she watched Li Yunxing speed towards her, she felt that he was all she could think about, and she had no time to think about anything else.
As Li Yunxing ran, his vision blurred and he had difficulty breathing. Finally, as he approached the finish line, he saw You Suian.
There were no shouts, no cheers, or perhaps there were, but he didn't know, he couldn't hear them. He could only see You Suian's rosy cheeks in the sun and his blank stare.
His weary body no longer needed to be dragged, and he seemed to have endless energy again.
Like a gust of wind.
A pair of warm hands caught him, and before he knew it, he was already unsteady on his feet.
"He's very handsome," she whispered, as if it were all just his imagination.
Then he saw a smile brighter than the sun.
He now actually wanted to give her an inopportune hug.
You Sui'an's touch did not last long; she simply caught him and left once he was steady.
The crowd surged forward. She waved gently, smiled at him, and then slowly walked away, disappearing into the deeper and farther reaches of the crowd.
Li Yunxing subconsciously reached out her hand, but her fingers slowly curled up, and she slowly put her hand back down.
People offered him glucose, water, and tissues; he was overwhelmed with their help.
Although it wasn't her.
Li Yunxing was already very satisfied. She caught him before anyone else, even though she was walking slower than anyone else.
Li Yunxing smiled and thanked everyone for their kindness.
He only just remembered which number he was; his head was a little fuzzy. He rubbed his temples.
Oh, it seems like he came in third. He shouldn't have embarrassed himself in front of You Sui'an.
You Sui'an watched him from a distance, surrounded by people. He was tall and slender, and although he looked thin, he contained boundless power.
He looked very pale, which made him appear somewhat fragile. But You Sui'an knew his resilience.
She is no longer suited to go there.
If we go any further, we'll be exposed.
Although she had thought before that she could get closer to Li Yunxing, at least hold hands, they weren't together yet, and how could people who weren't together be separated?
As long as You Suian refuses to admit it, the school can't do anything to them, because they are innocent, and besides, their grades haven't dropped.
But... perhaps she wasn't completely open-minded, because she dared not go any further; there were too many things binding them.
They just need a little more time. Let nature take its course.
Romance is not allowed now. Although You Sui'an herself didn't care, she couldn't be willful and cause trouble for Li Yunxing.
She's not a patient person, but she's very willing to wait now.
