Chapter Twenty-Seven: Sickly and Miserable
It's clear that the geography teacher and students really like the melon seedlings planted on the rooftop. After the heavy rain, the students didn't have to water them for a whole week.
The seedlings are very resilient and can grow on their own, but the weather in Province C is still quite harsh, and the summers are too hot.
So today the teacher arranged for someone to water the plants again, and it just so happened to be the turn of You Suian's group.
It was incredibly hot; the sunlight was scorching my skin.
You Sui'an even considered taking out the sunscreen he hadn't used in a long time.
You Sui'an is lazy and doesn't like to go out. The sunscreen she bought just gathers dust; she doesn't even know where she threw it in her dorm room anymore.
Suitcase, storage box, or wardrobe?
Or is it on the table?
You Sui'an really didn't know.
She sighed listlessly. Rainy days are definitely more comfortable.
Fortunately, they only needed to loosen the soil and fertilize when they went to the rooftop the first time. The second time, the students planted seedlings, and when it was everyone's turn after that, they only needed to water them.
It's actually quite easy.
In just ten or twenty minutes, everyone packed up and prepared to go back to the classroom.
You Suian suddenly felt a wave of dizziness. She frowned, thought for a moment, and figured it was probably just a little dizziness from squatting for too long, but surely she wasn't unlucky enough to get heatstroke?
Moreover, it's currently the fourth self-study period in the afternoon, and the sun is much gentler than it was at noon.
After a while, You Sui'an wondered why they didn't come at night.
Oh right, it seems there are no lights installed on the top floor, and it might be a bit dangerous at night.
It seemed her brain was a bit malfunctioning. You Suian shook her head, trying to stay awake.
Tang Qingyue noticed that her steps were a little unsteady, so she helped her up and looked at her with some concern.
You Suian shook his head to indicate that he was fine, then smiled and said, "It seems I'm still too weak. I feel a little dizzy after squatting for a while."
Tang Qingyue thought for a moment: "Could it be heatstroke? I have some Huoxiang Zhengqi Liquid, do you want to drink some?"
You Sui'an's face scrunched up at the thought of that unpleasant, bitter smell, but he still nodded.
It would be troublesome if someone actually got heatstroke.
After taking the medicine, You Suian felt a little better, but he didn't know if it was just a placebo effect.
Her head was spinning when she was doing her homework, so she simply stopped and dozed off at the table for a while. Then she secretly took out a book of poems and started reading.
Reading extracurricular books during self-study is a big no-no, but the teacher has never caught her.
You Sui'an has always been astute.
Li Yunxing noticed something was off about her when she was on the rooftop, and she was even more worried when she saw her slumped over the table.
But seeing her pick up a book and start reading now, Li Yunxing couldn't help but find it a little funny.
He seems to be in good spirits and can still concentrate on his reading.
Suddenly, Li Yunxing caught a glimpse of a bright orange figure outside the window.
That was their homeroom teacher, whose aesthetic sense was considered completely out of place by men! Nobody else liked that incredibly tacky outfit except him.
It looks like they're going downstairs to go home.
Wait a minute! Why did they suddenly head towards the back door?
Li Yunxing had a bad feeling and poked You Sui'an on the back.
You Suian was stunned for a moment. Why was Li Yunxing poking her?
You Suian was about to turn around when she realized that even if Li Yunxing had something to say, he usually wouldn't come to her during class, let alone poke her. With his shy and timid personality, even if he wanted to pass a note, he wouldn't make a big fuss.
Her heart skipped a beat, but she moved quickly and calmly, gently stuffing the book back in without attracting attention, just like any other time, as if she were simply putting her finished homework under the desk.
Her expression remained normal.
With a soft click, the door opened, so quietly that almost no one noticed. Only You Suian and Li Yunxing, who were keeping a close watch, and the students further back heard it.
You Sui'an breathed a sigh of relief, thinking to himself that thankfully he made it in time.
Teacher Li found it somewhat amusing.
He watched the whole thing from the back door. From Li Yunxing reminding You Suian to You Suian calmly putting the book away.
Although everyone behaved themselves when he opened the door, he always made sure to check on everyone through the transparent glass in the door first; it was his habit.
Otherwise, how could he have received so many cell phones in other classes?
The main problem was that You Sui'an's books were brightly colored, like angst-filled youth literature, very eye-catching. He happened to see her close the book and stuff it into the desk drawer, at which point the cover was easily visible.
Teacher Li shook her head, "They're still too young."
He tiptoed to You Suian's side and just looked at her.
You Suian was startled, but made no movement or sound. She blinked and looked at him.
You Sui'an's face remained expressionless, but his ears turned red.
Teacher Li didn't say anything, but You Suian seemed to compromise, taking out the poetry collection he had just been reading, still feeling a little uneasy.
Oh? You're serious after all.
Teacher Li was still somewhat surprised, but she still flipped through it, after all, these little rascals had done things like putting the shell of a classic work on a novel before.
It seems You Sui'an really loves learning.
He didn't make things too difficult for him and returned the book, which You Suian accepted with both hands.
"Don't read during self-study next time, or I'll confiscate whatever book you're reading."
You Suian looked at him with a smile and nodded obediently.
Teacher Li looked at You Suian with great interest, and then at Li Yunxing behind her.
These two are quite interesting.
He doesn't have many hobbies, but he loves observing these students. He enjoys analyzing their personalities and their contradictions. Oh, and of course, he can spot those who are secretly dating just by looking at them.
Otherwise, it would be so boring to just talk about dry knowledge every day.
However, they probably haven't started dating yet. It's quite endearing; he hasn't seen such pure affection in a long time since entering the workforce.
In fact, as early as when the students entered high school, Mr. Li already had a basic understanding of each student's situation. He knew who had secretly dated in junior high school and who had some obvious problems.
After all, many of their high school classmates had come from junior high. The school has always supported the collaboration between homeroom teachers. Therefore, he had already gotten to know many of the students before the start of the semester.
The two of them seemed to have been in the same class before, and their teacher had a high opinion of them.
Both of them were indeed quite well-behaved, hardworking, and conscientious. Teacher Li had no reason to bother them, nor was he particularly fond of meddling in other people's business.
However… as the homeroom teacher, I still have to offer a few words of advice. Let's see how it goes in a couple of days.
After looking around and finding nothing new, Teacher Li leisurely went out.
Going home definitely improves one's mood. Mr. Li left with a beaming smile at the thought of seeing his wife.
When You Sui'an saw that Teacher Li had left, although she knew there was a high chance he wouldn't come back, he had done it before by turning back and wandering around. So she obediently placed her homework on the table, turned to the page she needed to write on, but had no desire to start writing.
You Suian slumped onto the table, feeling sullen. Why was she so careless today? She was definitely not feeling well; her reactions were much slower.
Only now did You Sui'an realize that Li Yunxing had just...
Her face remained red. Even when Teacher Li caught her reading during self-study earlier, she had never felt this embarrassed.
"I'm still so pathetic," You Suian thought to himself. "I must tease him properly later."
With nothing else to do, she wrote a small note and gently placed it on Li Yunxing's desk.
"Thank you." A cute little cat was drawn next to it.
Like acting coquettishly.
You Suian glanced at him furtively, and Li Yunxing blushed as expected.
You Sui'an turned his head with a smile, and immediately felt much better.
Now, looking at these messy assignments, she's not so annoyed anymore.
She picked up her pen and began to write.
Time passed quickly.
Tang Qingyue was engrossed in solving a problem today and was determined to figure it out, so You Suian didn't disturb her.
You Suian stretched, threw down his pen, and prepared to go back to his dormitory to take a shower.
She shivered from the cold when she came out of the shower. Everyone in the dorm always liked to secretly turn down the temperature, especially in the afternoon.
She might have caught a cold; her head was still spinning. You Suian thought to herself in a daze, then tidied herself up and went to the cafeteria, intending to grab something to eat.
During evening self-study, You Suian's face started to burn, and he felt both hot and cold all over.
Why is my nose so stuffy?
You Suian frowned.
She diligently completed her homework first, because she had a bad feeling about it.
I feel so awful. I'm both cold and hot, and my head is still foggy.
You Sui'an slumped onto the table, looking dejected.
Tang Qingyue casually took out a thermometer. She touched You Suian's head.
It feels a bit hot.
Tang Qingyue handed her the thermometer.
My lips are getting warmer after traveling to Sui'an. I don't know if it's just psychological.
She blinked, waiting idly for time to pass.
38.4 degrees Celsius.
Her eyes lit up. Now she could go home openly and honestly. She had looked rather sickly before, but now she hardly seemed to notice.
"Qingyue, I'm going to slip away now. Good luck."
Tang Qingyue was already used to it. She nodded.
You Suian chuckled and asked Tang Qingyue if there was anything she wanted to bring, but she shook her head.
You Sui'an then asked the students at the tables in front and behind him. Qi Xiaoqian and Shen Furong replied in unison, "Instant noodles. Milk tea is also fine if it's available."
You Sui'an chuckled. He then asked them what flavor or brand of milk tea they wanted.
Li Yunxing didn't have anything he wanted to bring, and shook his head. However, he didn't expect that You Sui'an would still be thinking of him even though he was about to go home, and his face turned a little red.
Zhao Zhi said he wanted a bottle of Coke, and You Sui'an nodded in agreement.
She wrote everything down, and after thinking about it, decided to only bring an empty backpack, as it would be easier to carry things in an empty backpack.
After all, she can't do her homework, and she doesn't need to pretend if no one is home.
Okay, even if her parents are home, she still can't write.
She's a patient now.
Although I feel radiant right now.
You Sui'an still felt that people were always strange. Thinking about happy things made even being sick not so bad.
She slowly walked to the office; the history teacher was on duty tonight.
Teacher Lin looked at her with a smile; she was a very kind person.
You Sui'an felt a little embarrassed because her history teacher was so dignified; the years seemed to have made him more and more refined and elegant, and she was too embarrassed to ask for leave.
Teacher Lin looks like a proper, highly educated intellectual.
well.
You Sui'an did speak up, and Teacher Lin readily handed her the phone.
You Sui'an took out his phone and called Teacher Li. The school was acting strangely, insisting on the homeroom teacher's permission before allowing anyone to leave the school.
She explained the situation to Teacher Li, thinking she would call him again at the school gate later.
You Sui'an asked the squad leader to unlock the cabinet and then took out the cell phone from it.
You Sui'an walked downstairs with cheerful steps.
