Chapter 18 The Lazy Mother

The Xia family had three rice fields, all located close together. Each field was about two mu (approximately 2.5 acres) in size, and each mu could produce about 500 kilograms (approximately 150 kg) of grain.

In other words, the three rice fields of the Xia family can produce about 3,000 kilograms of grain, but not all of this belongs to the Xia family, and they still need to pay taxes.

Fortunately, the appetites of the children have not yet opened up. Now only the second child eats almost as much as an adult, and the other three together eat almost as much as an adult.

The food they have is definitely enough for more than half a year. When winter comes and they plant a crop of early rice, they won't have any problems with filling their stomachs.

Xia Manni calculated in her mind and then told the kids about her general plan.

"Mom, we have never farmed before. Will we be able to do it when the time comes?" said the eldest son worriedly.

"I've never farmed before, but we can learn. When the time comes, we can stay in the fields and watch how others do it. If we learn more, watch more, and ask more questions, we'll eventually learn a lot."

Xia Manni knows how to farm, but after all, there is a gap between modern agriculture and ancient agriculture, so she definitely needs to learn.

"Dawa, is your meeting over?" Xia Manni asked Dawa.

"Mom, I'm done." The eldest child was still a little nervous during his first meeting. Although his brothers and sisters were sitting below him, he still felt embarrassed.

"Okay, Erwa, Sanwa, and Sinier. Do you have anything to add?" Xia Manni said to the kids who were sitting on the little chairs below and listening attentively but not fully understanding.

"Mom, I have a question." Erwa asked.

"Very good, if you have any questions just ask, Erwa." Erwa encouraged.

"Mom, I saw grandma using a sickle when she was harvesting, but we only have one sickle at home. It seems grandma sold the others."

Erwa was a little angry at the end of his speech. Although he didn't know much, he knew that he had to take care of his family's things.

"One sickle is definitely not enough. I'll buy two more when I go to market. But I have to praise you, Erwa. I didn't expect you to be so thoughtful."

Erwa scratched his head embarrassedly when he heard Xia Manni's praise. He actually thought that the sickle was useful as a weapon. One time when he went to the woodshed to look for it, he found that his grandmother took the sickle from home to sell it.

"Mom, I have a problem too." Sanwa followed.

"Sanwa, you say."

"Mom, what should we do with these sweet potatoes? Do we need to soak them too?" Sanwa asked, pointing to a pile of unprocessed sweet potatoes.

"Sanwa is so good! I would have forgotten about it if you hadn't told me. Let's make these sweet potatoes into dried sweet potatoes and fill your stomachs when the time comes."

"Wow, dried sweet potatoes! I've never eaten them, but I saw my aunt eat them." Erwa said with a longing look on his face.

Hearing this, Xia Manni couldn't help but start complaining about her sister-in-law and mother-in-law. It seemed like these children hadn't benefited at all. Everything good at home was given to her sister-in-law. In her opinion, her mother-in-law was a soft-hearted person. She didn't know how many evil ideas her sister-in-law had given her mother-in-law.

"Erwa, you will be able to eat dried sweet potatoes in the future. How about we start making them now?" Xia Manni comforted Erwa.

Several children nodded.

"Si Ni'er, do you have anything to say?" Xia Manni looked at Si Ni'er who was quietly weaving a straw basket aside.

Si Nier raised her head when she heard this and said, "Mom, where are the fish?"

Xia Manni slapped her forehead and said, yes, there are still many fish that have not been processed.

"Si Ni'er is right. We have too much fish left. But the only way to preserve it is to salt it."

"You see, I'm old now, and my memory isn't good. You have to look at me more often and remember more, otherwise I'll always forget things. Fortunately, I have you, otherwise I wouldn't know what to do."

Xia Manni said coquettishly to the four dolls.

Da Wa felt that what his mother said was a bit exaggerated, but it felt pretty good to be needed by his mother.

Erwa thought that he must help his mother more in the future. It seemed that his mother was not as good as them in other aspects except for chopping people...

Sanwa was a little puzzled. Did he tend to forget things as he grew older? How could he not forget things? He had to think about it carefully...

Si Ni'er was a little suspicious, but she didn't think too much about it. Instead, she lowered her head and continued weaving the basket.

But the four of them don’t know yet, Xia Manni will use the same rhetoric in the future.

"Okay, to make dried sweet potatoes, you need to wash them and then boil them, but they can't be too soft. Big Boy, just remember to cut them into slices after boiling them."

After listening to this, Da Wa nodded seriously. Since his mother believed in him, he would definitely be able to do it well.

"Erwa, come with me to chop firewood. Sanwa, Sinier, you two are responsible for washing the sweet potatoes." At this time, Dawa began to consciously arrange the division of labor among the children without Xia Manni's instructions.

"Brother, I've wanted to chop wood for a long time. You never wanted me to try, so today I'll show you..."

"What are you looking at, Erwa?" Xia Manni asked Erwa teasingly.

"Hey, Mom. Of course you want to see how powerful I am. Mom, I am really powerful. Only Xiao Huang in the village can't be my opponent."

"Who is Xiao Huang?" This was the first time Xia Manni heard the name Xiao Huang.

"Xiao Huang is the big yellow dog at the entrance of the village. He is raised by the village chief, but he always hangs around the entrance of the village." Da Wa explained.

Xia Manni: “…”

"Okay, second brother, stop bragging and get to work." Sanwa couldn't help but complain.

"You little bastard, I think you deserve a beating again." Erwa said as he raised his fist to hit Sanwa.
