Chapter 20: Erwa being chased by a dog

Back home, she made lunch first, as she still had a few sweet potatoes left. Xia Manni also found two salted fish, one of which was larger, and prepared to stew it for the children.

She called Erwa over and said, "Erwa, help your mother deliver this salted fish to your Grandpa Li."

"Grandpa Li? Which Grandpa Li?"

"Mom should be talking about 'Don't talk about Li' Grandpa, right, Mom?" Big Brother said at this time.

"Big Wa is really smart, that's him." It is said that Big Wa is the most sensitive among the children. He is observant and has his own ideas.

"Mom, doesn't grandpa dislike others contacting him? Why did he let my second brother deliver the fish?" Sanwa asked in confusion.

Sanwa and Sinier are still young, especially Sanwa, who is a chatterbox, but his judgments on things are still very one-sided.

"Because we will need to trouble Grandpa Li in the future. Sanwa, you have to know that when we ask for help from others, we must first show them the proper attitude. Otherwise, if we ask for help but show a bad attitude, who will be willing to help us?"

After hearing this, Sanwa nodded in confusion and rarely asked why.

"Erwa, go ahead. Mother believes in you. I have a more important task for your eldest brother." When Erwa heard that his mother believed him, he said nothing, picked up the straw rope and was about to walk out.

"Erwa, don't fight outside. Come home after you send your child off." Dawa shouted after him.

Xia Manni felt that the eldest child was more suitable to be a "mother" than her. At present, she did not think that the second child had the nature of causing trouble. Who would have thought that later on, she would be the one who beat the second child the hardest.

In fact, she had a reason for letting Erwa go. It wasn't because she had arranged other work for Dawa. It was because she had noticed that Uncle Li's gaze stayed on Erwa for a long time when they were in the field.

The second child was born in a happy manner, chubby and strong, and probably caught Uncle Li's eye.

"Da Wa, help your mother cook. Let's go chop firewood in the afternoon." Xia Manni called Da Wa over and said.

There is not much firewood left at home, and it is definitely unrealistic to ask the little kids to chop wood. This task must be left to the only adult.

She had just noticed that Da Wa was a little disappointed, but it was only for a moment. She was probably worried that she wasn't valued by her. Da Wa was always so sensitive that it made people feel distressed.

"Big Boy, you are also very good. You are suitable for studying, and your mother will definitely let you go to school." Xia Manni said to Big Boy who was adding firewood to the stove.

Da Wa raised his eyes, and they were actually a little red. He nodded seriously at Xia Manni, "Yes, mother, thank you."

"Mom, what are you talking to my brother about? I want to study too." Sanwa, who was originally in the yard, came into the house at some point.

"I just hope you don't run away when the time comes, haha, you clever little ghost."

"Mom, why am I running? Is studying tiring? Why doesn't my big brother run? Is my little sister running?"

"Sanwa, go see what Si Ni'er is doing? Why is she so serious?"

Xia Manni originally wanted to use Si Ni'er to attract Sanwa's attention so that he would stop buzzing in her ears.

Who knew that Sanwa blinked his eyes and said, "Mom, Si Nier asked me to come and see what you and big brother are doing. She said you guys are making something delicious."

Xia Manni: “…”

Big Baby: “…”

Si Ni'er in the yard paused, turned around and continued to fiddle with her straw baskets.

Alas, poor Sanwa, he doesn’t know his own power yet.

"Mom, I'm back." Erwa's panting and breathing sounds mixed with the barking of dogs came from outside the yard.

Xia Manni and Dawa were so scared that they hurried to the door to check.

Who knew that what he waited for was Erwa, who was walking in a mess with a big thick stick in his hand. When he looked at Erwa, he saw two holes in his pants.

Xia Manni's face turned dark instantly. Why was it that every time Erwa went out, there would be trouble?

"Erwa, what happened to you? Are you okay?" Da Wa supported Erwa, pulled him up to the yard and asked.

"Brother, close the door quickly and don't let that brat catch up with me."

"Who is it?" Big Brother thought that Second Brother had fought with the children in the village again.

"It's no one, it's a stray dog." Erwa said breathlessly.

"Ah? Wild dog?" Xia Manni and the three kids said together.

The eldest boy was wondering with a headache why the second boy not only provoked people but also dogs.

"Mom, can you please give me some water to drink? My mouth is about to smoke." Erwa noticed that Xia Manni's face looked a little unhappy, so he said pitifully.

Xia Manni glared at Erwa, thought for a moment, and then resigned herself to her fate and went to get him some water.

The eldest and third sons behind him closed the gate, but not long after, they heard the sound of dogs barking at the door.

"Here, drink it. After you finish drinking it, explain yourself clearly." At this time, she also heard the barking of dogs outside the door.

"Oh, Mom, you don't know that I was delivering salted fish to Grandpa Li's house, but I didn't expect that this dog would target me. Later, I found a thick stick and beat it with it while running back."

"What's wrong with these pants?" asked the eldest son. He got a headache when he saw the torn pants. After all, these were the only pants the second son had. The other pair was still hanging out to dry, and it would take at least tomorrow to dry.

"Brother, these pants were scratched by a branch when I was hiding from a dog." Erwa looked unconvinced when he said this. It was all the fault of that stinky dog, otherwise he wouldn't have been scolded by his mother and eldest brother.

"How big is the dog?" Xia Manni was a little curious. To have chased Erwa like this, the dog must be at least as tall as him.

Erwa stammered and couldn't explain clearly.

"Mom, the dog is still at the door." Sanwa said with excitement in his eyes.

It can be said that among these four children, except for the second child who was chased by the dog, all the others had excitement in their eyes. All children are like this and they like small animals more.

Xia Manni listened carefully to the dog's barking and thought the dog's barking was so delicate, even a little baby-like.

"Big Wa, why did you provoke this dog?" Xia Manni asked. It was impossible that she would be chased by a dog for no reason.

"Mom, I'm being unfairly accused. I really didn't provoke him. I was just passing by when some wild kids were teasing the dog, and I even helped the dog chase them away. But when I went to Grandpa Li's house, he followed me. He also followed me home when I went home, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't drive him away."

Xia Manni heard something different from Erwa's description. It turned out that the dog didn't stare at Erwa at first, but Erwa saved the dog and that's why the dog followed her.

"I want to see how big the dog is. Sanwa and Dawa, open the door for me." Xia Manni took out a kitchen knife and said to the closed door.

Sanwa and Dawa both obediently went to open the door.

"Si Ni'er and Er Wa, hide behind your mother." Xia Manni had already made plans to scare the wild dog.

No matter what kind of dog it is, if it chases Erwa away, then it must...

"What is this?" Si Nier asked

"Erwa, is this the dog that chased you?" Dawa asked curiously.

"Second brother, this..."

"Shut up, Sanwa." Erwa said to Sanwa fiercely.

Sanwa: I didn’t say anything.
