Chapter 29: Autumn Harvest

Neither Xia Manni nor the eldest child expected that the fourth child would get the hang of it so quickly.

She was only pricked twice, and there was no bleeding. Later, Si Nier sewed a sack without Da Wa's guidance.

Then he started sewing the second sack, and even took apart the one that the eldest boy had sewn before.

I have to say that Da Wa may be more skilled in needlework, but judging from the appearance of the sack, Sinier's work is smoother and more beautiful.

This person really refuses to admit defeat. In Xia Manni's more than thirty years in her past and present life, there has never been a two-year-old girl who can sew better than her.

"Si Ni'er, you are really amazing. You can learn it once you start. Mom still can't do it well." Xia Manni's praise for Si Ni'er this time was a little different.

The tone not only contained praise, but even some admiration.

But Si Ni'er still doesn't understand what admiration means. She thinks it's a very simple thing, but her mother can't do it.

"Mom, but Si Ni'er doesn't know how to chop people, but you can. You are more powerful." Si Ni said in a childish voice.

Xia Manni: Thank you, I feel comforted.

"Mom, mom, five families in the village have started to harvest rice. Why don't we start too?" Erwa ran back anxiously with Sanwa and the local dog.

It turned out that they had checked all the fields near the village and counted that there were five families busy harvesting rice.

Erwa lost his patience and discussed with Sanwa before coming back to ask their mother if they were planning to harvest rice.

"Why are you in such a hurry? Didn't we say that we can only collect it tomorrow? Grandpa Li must have experience." She wiped the sweat off the second and third children, and poured some water for the local dog.

She then went on to say, "It's not the case that the sooner the rice is harvested, the better. If it can ripen better in the field, then of course it's best to leave it there for as long as possible. Everything depends on the right time, place, and people."

The second and third children nodded, not quite understanding what was going on.

"I'm asking you two, have you learned how to harvest rice?"

“…”

For a moment, both brothers shook their heads.

"Look, if you haven't learned it yet, your eldest brother and I will have to cut it. There's no point in us getting anxious now. We might as well spend this time letting you two learn."

"I understand, Mom. I'll take Sanwa over there to take a look."

After Erwa finished speaking, he took Sanwa and the local dog away like the wind.

The day passed quickly, and the second and third children were called back by the eldest child for dinner in the evening.

The next day, Xia Manni was the last one to get up.

But she was already here earlier than every day before. It seemed that the children were excited about harvesting rice at the beginning.

The Xia family washed, dressed and ate as usual. Then Xia Manni gave them water bags and pancakes and went to their fields.

They planned not to come back today, so Xia Manni wanted to see how much they could harvest in a day with their team and speed.

When I went out today, the sun had just risen.

But there are already quite a few families living in the fields, and there are many more people waving sickles today than yesterday.

There are so many that Erwa can’t even count them.

"We have two sickles in our house. You and your eldest brother will take turns using them. The rest of you can tie up the rice I've harvested with straw ropes."

A few people nodded, and the eldest boy said, "Si Ni'er and San Wa, you two go and make the straw ropes, and Er Wa, you follow me and mother to tie them. When they're done, Si Ni'er and San Wa will put them in the backpack, and when it's full, Er Wa will carry it back to the field."

Xia Manni nodded to Da Wa, "Dawa made a good arrangement."

It seems that the effect of holding meetings every day is now showing.

Da Wa will definitely be able to be a leader in the future, and his ability to coordinate has already been demonstrated.

Everyone knew what they were going to do, so they started working. Before that, Xia Manni had already bought straw hats for everyone.

So in the Xia family's fields, a man wearing a straw hat began to work.

Xia Manni was leading the way, bending over to cut rice. The temperature was not that hot now, so cutting rice was easy as long as she exerted some strength.

She swung her sickle very quickly, and soon she left Da Wa far behind.

The convenience for Da Wa to harvest rice is mainly because he is not very tall, so it is not very tiring when he bends down.

The only problem is that I'm not very skilled in using the sickle, so my speed isn't very fast.

At this time, Sanwa and Sinier had already started to twist a lot of straw ropes, while Erwa followed Xia Manni with a straw rope to start tying rice.

He had observed before that one cannot bundle too much rice at a time.

"Brother, let's switch." Erwa said to Dawa who had already started sweating.

Originally, Da Wa wanted to refuse, but when he thought about the actual situation, he nodded.

He said, "Erwa, you've never used a sickle before, so try cutting slowly before you do it."

Erwa nodded obediently.

Unexpectedly, Erwa got the hang of it so quickly that the sickle became as light in his hand as a pair of scissors.

It didn't take long before he caught up with Xia Manni to half the distance.

The eldest boy had no choice but to accept his fate and help the two younger kids bundle rice.

"Erwa, take a rest if you're tired." Xia Manni turned around and said to Erwa who was cutting rice in the back.

"I understand, mother. You should take a rest if you are tired."

Xia Manni nodded. To be honest, she didn't feel tired. It was mainly because she was the type of person who would lie down when she was not working, but once she started working, she would be anxious to finish it immediately so that she could rest.

Also, harvesting rice is actually quite therapeutic.
