Chapter 11, No. 11
Two days before summer vacation, Ren Yanyu brought his girlfriend home.
Although Ren's mother seemed unconcerned, Ren still decided to go home that day.
After all, the last time something like this happened, the family was almost turned upside down.
Perhaps because Ren's parents had already experienced it once, this time they were truly calm.
Yunyun really likes her aunt's girlfriend, saying she looks like a cat.
Ren Yanyu wiped away her sweat discreetly and immediately changed the subject, asking why Ruan Mianmian wasn't home again.
“Mommy hasn’t come home for a long time. I asked her, but she wouldn’t tell me.”
“But Mom is very sad. I heard her crying secretly last night.”
The little girl whispered to her aunt, afraid that her mother would hear her.
"When Mommy came to visit me, my mom was always there, so I didn't have a chance to tell her about this."
"Auntie, can you tell Mommy for me?"
"She couldn't bear to see her mother cry."
"Knowing that Mom is crying, she will definitely come home."
Let the misty rain fall.
The atmosphere at home was peaceful, and everyone liked Li Xuanyin quite a bit.
"What kind of magic did you secretly use?" she asked in a low voice.
"No." Li Xuanyin blinked.
In the evening, the three adults took Yunyun out to play. Li Xuanyin was very good at entertaining children, and Yunyun stayed close to her new aunt who was like a kitten.
Ren Yanyu and Ren Yi walked behind them.
"What happened between you and Sister Mianmian?" Ren Yanyu asked.
"...She broke up with me."
"Huh?!?!" Ren Yanyu shouted, attracting the attention of passersby.
Feeling embarrassed, he tore her coat askew.
"Keep your voice down..."
"Did you two have a fight?"
"No."
“That is…” Ren Yanyu hesitated for a moment, but still couldn’t find a suitable alternative, “that is, a third party has appeared?”
I glanced at her casually.
"It doesn't seem so."
"I don't know either, but it might be related to her relatives." They passed by a bakery, randomly picked up a few egg tarts, and even took a separately packaged chocolate tart.
“I remember that neither you nor Yunyun liked it…”
“She likes it.” Renyi took another one.
“I asked her former colleagues, who only said that her relatives had caused trouble, but they didn’t know the specifics.”
"I'll find out about each thing one by one during summer vacation."
Ever since that chance encounter with Qiao Jianing, Ruan Mianmian has been asking her former colleagues and friends about her whenever she has a spare moment.
She had already pieced together a rough outline and drafted a huge account to settle with someone.
"Sister, I just remembered something."
"explain."
"Is that uncle about to come out?"
He stopped abruptly, and the tray in his hand was almost knocked over by a running child.
“It seems like almost twenty years have passed. I remember the verdict was…” Ren Yanyu took the tray from her hand and went to the cashier. “Ask your mother. She should remember it very clearly.”
Renyi's expression became visibly flustered, and her hand holding the phone trembled slightly.
"No rush," Li Xuanyin said softly as he walked to her side.
"What's wrong with Mom?" Yunyun, who was holding onto her aunt Xiaoxuan, looked up and saw that everyone was worried about her mother, so she was worried too.
"Mom's fine, there's just something urgent I haven't done yet." She tried to lift the corners of her mouth to make herself look okay.
"Please take care of Yunyun for me while I make a phone call."
He hurriedly walked to a secluded spot and dialed his mother's number.
"What happened?" Li Xuanyin asked Ren Yanyu.
"Anyway, it's a troublesome matter. I'll tell you when we get back." Ren Yanyu patted Yunyun's head. "Do you want to go to your aunt's house to play?"
"Yes!" Ren Yunyou missed his aunt's cute black cat.
“Then I’ll talk to your mom and tell your aunt that when you have summer vacation, your aunt will take you home with her.”
After receiving a vague answer from Ren's mother, Ren felt increasingly uneasy. He went to the bar where he had met Ruan Mianmian and Qiao Jianing that day, but he didn't see them either.
The waiter at the store said that Qiao Jianing had gone to work part-time elsewhere.
Could it be somewhere near the barbecue restaurant where we bumped into each other last time? Renyi could only trust her intuition.
Qiao Jianing was indeed there. She had removed her heavy makeup, neatly tied up her hair, and enthusiastically served food to the customers outside the barbecue restaurant.
"Mom, you're here? What do you want to eat today?" Qiao Jianing teased her again when she saw Ren Yi.
Where does she live now?
The evening breeze, carrying the scorching smell of cooking fire, rushed towards my face, as if it were about to burn my skin.
The airflow through the hall carried an unpleasant smell. The deliveryman wiped his sweat and compared the numbers on the worn-out doorplate.
The person hiding on the stairs stared wide-eyed at the door.
The air conditioner was probably an old model, because water seeped into the walls and flowed onto the cement floor, forming a small puddle.
The fan blades kept making noise. Ruan Mianmian stepped onto a wooden stool, unplugged the power cord, and prepared to check it herself first.
"Hello! Your takeout has arrived!"
So fast? Ruan Mianmian checked the time; only twenty minutes had passed since she placed the order for the air conditioner cleaner.
"Thank you." She thanked the deliveryman and handed him a bottle of mineral water.
The hinges on the door were damaged, making it difficult to close. Ruan Mianmian tried to lift it up, but it still wouldn't close.
A tremendous force pushed the door open, and Ruan Mianmian instinctively dodged backward. The iron door crashed into the wooden cabinet behind it, scattering mineral water bottles all over the floor.
The takeout bag from earlier also fell to the ground, revealing a corner of it.
It was just a few cans of soda.
It was ordered by the man to confirm that she lived here.
"Hand over the money!" Ruan Mianmian's third uncle kicked open the door. Perhaps seeing that Ruan Mianmian was alone, he shouted at the top of his lungs, trying to intimidate her with his imposing manner.
"I have no money." Ruan Mianmian frowned, subtly turning on her phone's camera function, her hand behind her back gripping the wrench she had taken out while repairing the air conditioner.
"Your dad's coming out soon. If you don't give me the money, see how he'll teach you a lesson!"
"Even if he comes, I won't give you a single penny." Ruan Mianmian said as if she had heard a joke, tilting her head back and stretching her aching neck. "I've never taken his surname since I was a child, do you think his presence would make any difference?"
"It's all because your mother is useless..."
Bang.
An empty plastic bottle hit the man on the back of the head. He winced in pain and turned around to find the culprit.
"You think you're so useful, asking your juniors for money?" Renyi stood outside the door, holding a few bottles of drinks.
If the man yells at Mianmian again, she wouldn't mind throwing her unfinished drink at his head.
Qiao Jianing said the air conditioner wasn't working well, so she bought several bottles of water that were frozen solid.
"Who do you think you are!" her third uncle asked rudely. "Mind your own business!"
Renyi glanced at Ruan Mianmian and let out a soft chuckle.
"I am her ex-wife."
