Chapter 4
This is my first time at a bar.
She followed behind Ruan Mianmian and squeezed into the booth.
The deafening music made her feel a little dizzy.
A passerby lit a cigarette, got choked by the smoke, and couldn't help but cough twice.
The girl next to Ruan Mianmian kindly asked her what she wanted to drink.
"...I'm fine with anything."
"I see." She glanced at Ruan Mianmian, who was chatting with someone else, and smiled at Ren Yi with narrowed eyes.
The waiter brought the drinks, and Ruan Mianmian reached out and took the one furthest from her, also helping the other people in the booth to get their drinks.
There was only one glass of bubbly drink left on the table.
The young girl was about to say something when Ruan Mianmian interrupted her.
"Drink up, then head home."
He coughed again and then picked up his cup and drank more than half of it.
It's cucumber mint soda.
The discomfort in my throat was somewhat relieved.
"Thank you," she said, thanking the girl who ordered her drink.
“...No need.” The girl replied curtly.
The people next to her seemed to be saying something interesting, and Ruan Mianmian was very happy. The dimples at the corners of her mouth appeared and disappeared, and her beautiful eyebrows and eyes curved into little crescents.
Ren Yi was filled with strange feelings, but he didn't know how to join the conversation, so he could only watch as Ruan Mianmian chatted happily with the others.
She recalled participating in club activities in college, where everyone around her had companions, but she was the only one sitting alone in the corner of the last row of the classroom, not knowing who to talk to.
"Ayi!" Ruan Mianmian arrived late, panting. She had just finished her PE class.
“I’m late,” she said, still carrying an iced milk tea in her hand. “I bought milk tea, one cup for each of us.”
He casually took out a wet wipe from his bag and wiped her sweaty face.
"Don't be in such a hurry next time, I'll always wait for you."
These things happened a long time ago.
Ruan Mianmian kept an eye on the people in the corner of the booth out of the corner of her eye, and all the water vapor condensed on her wine glass slid into her palm.
Go home quickly.
Renyi suddenly stood up, and everyone in the booth looked at her.
She walked up to Ruan Mianmian and bent down.
"Mianmian, can we find a quiet place to talk?"
The girl next to her wanted to get up together, but Ruan Mianmian gently shook her head, indicating that she could do it alone.
The girl raised an eyebrow.
Ruan Mianmian led Ren Yi to the back door of the bar. It was quiet there and there was no one else around.
Finally, all was quiet, and I could breathe a sigh of relief.
"Mianmian, why don't you want to go home?" Renyi asked her, his tone still calm, with even a slight smile on his lips, as if he were just asking an ordinary question.
She couldn't let Ruan Mianmian feel uneasy.
“I thought that by returning the ring to you, my meaning was clear enough.” Ruan Mianmian put her hands in her pockets. “I won’t go back.”
"Mianmian..."
I feel like coughing again.
She cleared her throat to suppress the itch.
"You can tell me where I went wrong, where I didn't do well, and I can change," he pleaded.
The lighting was dim, and Ruan Mianmian's expression was ambiguous.
Unable to get a reply from her, her unease prompted her to speak again.
"Mianmian, come home with me first, okay? I miss you so much."
"You didn't do anything wrong." Her fingernails dug into her palms, but Ruan Mianmian remained unfazed.
"Then why?" Ren Yi wanted to get closer to her, so he grabbed her clothes and refused to let go.
"I don't want to go back to a mundane life, Ayi."
“Let’s break up,” Ruan Mianmian whispered in her ear, “I don’t love you anymore.”
Warm breath fell on any earlobe.
They still look very close.
The hand that was tugging at Ruan Mianmian's clothes lost its strength and fell down, hitting the bulge in the pocket of her clothes.
Inside was the ring that Ruan Mianmian had just taken off.
I don't love her anymore.
A reason sufficient to refute any and all arguments.
But she still didn't want to give up.
"What about Yunyun? Don't you want Yunyun either?"
Ruan Mianmian paused for a moment before answering her.
We'll see.
Simply shrink to the same spot.
Tears fell onto her glasses, blurring her vision, and she frantically searched for tissues.
Once her vision cleared again, Ruan Mianmian had already called a car for her.
She's still out so late; Yunyun must be with Ren's mother.
"Take care of yourself," Ruan Mianmian said to her before closing the car door.
Before Renyi could say anything more to her, the car had already driven far away, and he could only see Ruan Mianmian still standing there in the distance.
After calming herself down, she went back to the bar, back to where there were lots of people.
"That lady was so pretty! Mianmian, are you familiar with her? Could you introduce me?" another girl in the same booth asked enthusiastically.
Ruan Mianmian beckoned to her, and she leaned closer.
"She is my wife."
Just as the girl was about to cry to her friend, she saw Ruan Mianmian raise a finger in front of her lips.
You are not allowed to tell.
