Chapter 12: The First Item: Deserted City Notes
The pale figure existed like a ghost.
Neither the fluttering curtains nor the scattered papers could stop him from writing.
He was wearing glasses and was concentrating on writing something quickly.
It looked like he was being chased by something, and his face was filled with fear and panic.
Shen Li slowly took a few steps towards him.
The other party was like a shadow, appearing and disappearing, and was completely unaware of Shen Li's existence.
"Why is it still not working?"
The phantom became more and more agitated, and angrily tore up what he had just written and crumpled it into pieces.
Under his feet, there were broken pieces of paper and paper balls everywhere.
Chen Li bent down and picked up one of the paper balls. Before he could open it, the paper turned translucent like a shadow and finally disappeared.
No matter how many times he tried, he couldn't see what the man was writing.
"Why?" The pale shadow lowered his head and sobbed slowly, "Why can't I save him no matter how many times I try?"
The pale figure covered his face with his hands, tears streaming from between his fingers.
As he got closer, Shen Li could feel the shadow's emotional fluctuations even more.
That's not human.
Not a ghost either.
It's just a thin obsession.
It can be blown away by the wind anytime and anywhere.
What is he writing?
Why is he crying?
Who is he going to save?
Shen Li felt that he had grasped the clue.
He continued to move closer to the shadow, walked to the table, and saw the black-covered notebook under his hand.
Sure enough, the "item" they delivered this time was closely related to the phantom in front of them.
So will he be the recipient?
The wind outside the window howled and blew over two very unstable windows.
The glass shattered all over the floor, leaving only the empty window frame, which hit the wall heavily.
Before Chen Li could see clearly, the shadow floated away with the wind, as if it was sucked away by something.
The notebook also disappeared without a trace.
At the same time, the giant hand of the asphalt man outside the door smashed the old wooden door and reached into the room.
Chen Li did not stay in the living room and quickly hid in the bedroom.
Catman A is not here.
He appeared and disappeared mysteriously, led Chen Li into the house, and disappeared without a trace after seeing the shadow.
This house looks like no one has lived in it for a long time.
The single bed is placed in the corner, and the outer wall is damp and seeping all year round. The humid environment is suitable for ferns to run rampant.
The balcony door had long been broken, and moss spread all the way out from the floor.
The ferns rooted in the cracks of the wall are lush and green, hiding their rotten leaves in the shadows and only showing their most lush side.
The Asphalt Man reached into the narrow house and probed again and again. It was only a matter of time before he broke in. Shen Li had to find a way out.
He walked onto the thick, slippery moss and came to the balcony. The drain in the mop pool on the balcony made a gurgling sound.
Soon, a pool of black mucus gushed out from the drain and gathered into a human shape in the mop pool.
Chen Li could have continued to use his blood to stop them, but he had lost too much blood and was powerless.
There is a giant hand behind him and a monster in front of him.
Is there really no way to escape?
Shen Li stood calmly beside the broken railing.
"Bang!" With a loud bang, the door behind him was smashed open, and a giant sticky hand wrapped around him.
The giant hand reached out to the balcony, but grabbed nothing.
Because Shen Li jumped from the eleventh floor without hesitation.
The heavy rain has been going on for a long time, and the city's drainage system is not perfect, so the road is full of water.
He couldn't help but think of the time when he spied on a person through a small pond in the mirror at the post station.
Since he can come from there, does it mean that he can also go there?
He is gambling.
Gambling with your life on a possibility.
Glass, ponds, mirrors, it seems that anything that reflects light or can create a reflection can pass through.
So, does it also mean that he can use these things to take refuge in that person's world?
The feeling of weightlessness while falling was not pleasant, but strangely enough, he liked it.
From a distance, a tiny human figure fell along with the heavy rain.
The wind blew in from the hem of his clothes, making his white shirt puff up. His black hair fluttered as he closed his eyes in enjoyment.
Getting closer and closer to the ground.
A layer of water accumulated on the dark asphalt road.
It wasn't smashed to pieces.
It's like jumping into a bottomless sea.
The tall Asphalt Man stood by in vain, and a being behind the clouds sighed unwillingly.
This is - where?
Chen Li felt that his body was sinking, the oxygen in his lungs was being consumed, and he had difficulty breathing.
The feeling of suffocation forced him to swim upwards.
“Crash.”
Chen Li poked his head out of the water and walked ashore coughing.
The blood moon hanging in the sky dyed the night into an unusual and strange color.
The beasts of the night smell the presence of humans.
A huge fox head popped out silently from behind Shen Li.
The bloody mouth was already open, and a fishy smell was overwhelming, making people feel sick.
Chen Li stood there, all wet, wringing out the water stains on the hem of his clothes.
As soon as I looked up, I saw a mouth full of sharp teeth looming towards me.
"It turns out that this place is not safe either..."
Shen Li sighed softly, but did not stop the movements of his hands.
The talisman is drawn in the void in one go.
"break!"
A word, a gust of wind, an explosion.
The fox's head was blown back, blood oozing from the corner of its mouth, and it roared unwillingly.
Chen Li's talisman technique focuses on the balance between heaven and earth.
The more you lose, the more you gain. There is always loss.
The price of the previous attack was that he lost his sense of smell for three days.
From now on, he could no longer smell the stench of monsters.
After his power was sealed, he seemed a little stretched.
The blood control technique cannot be used because he is anemic now.
The talisman didn't work either, and he was only able to temporarily repel one monster because he lost his sense of smell. But now, with the huge explosion just now, more and more monsters were attracted by the sound.
If he wanted to use magic to repel them, he had to be prepared to lose more, which he obviously didn't want.
Then we can only use our shadow.
Shen Li moved his fingertips, and a drop of blood flew into his own shadow.
The dark shadow stood up from the ground and ran in another direction.
Because of the limited power, the shadow was stretched to look a little funny.
But it is enough to temporarily attract the attention of those monsters.
Shen Li took a quick look at the surroundings:
There are wastelands and small ponds, and except for the tall building not far away, there is almost no place to hide nearby.
The road was muddy everywhere. Chen Li ran to the building with one step deep and one step shallow, only to find that he couldn't get in at all.
The exterior windows on the first floor were nailed shut from the inside.
The gate was also strictly guarded, and deep pits were dug on the outer ground to form animal traps.
A few robins circled around the roof, taking in his presence.
Whatever the robin saw was seen by the girl on the roof.
Zao Wu saw through the world through the eyes of a bird, and was a little confused when he saw the sudden appearance of Chen Li.
"Strange, Boss, there's someone downstairs."
The silver snake ring on Ye Minglang's hand circled restlessly, tightened its body, and strangled him, as if hinting at something.
The ring usually doesn't move, but now it's acting out of character. In fact, he has already guessed it.
That person actually came here too?
Did he come here by mistake? Or did he come here on purpose?
That's really not the right time.
He is in dire straits now, and most of his teammates are injured.
The blood moon will last for three days, and today is the third day.
He has a bad fate. I'm afraid he will never come back and will be buried here with them.
"Bring him up." Ye Minglang ordered.
Zao Wu was a little confused, "Boss, do you know that person?"
"Yes, his blood helped us get through the difficulties of the past two nights."
With just those traps, even if the monsters fell in, they could still climb out.
So Ye Minglang put Shen Li's blood in the trap, and the monster disappeared into thin air when it fell into it, and that's why it has survived until now.
Qian Shi, who was behind him, was already dying. When he heard what Ye Minglang said, he stood up from the pile of bandages.
"Then why don't we drain his blood and survive tonight!"
Chen Li didn't understand how he was taken upstairs and then tied up.
The two men guarding him both had silver hair, which was very eye-catching.
He had seen that girl once across a puddle, and she looked a little aloof.
Another man, wrapped in bandages and using an abacus with his broken hand, ignored him.
Shen Li was tied to a chair and waited quietly for a while.
"Excuse me……"
"Don't ask. Can't you see I'm busy?" The bandaged man with a broken finger was interrupted by him and complained a little dissatisfiedly:
"Look, look! We have to start the calculation from the beginning again!"
He would flick the abacus, and the two monsters outside the building would collide with each other.
Only after precise calculation can two monsters of equal level and similar weight collide with each other and knock each other unconscious.
But some of the abacus beads were so heavy that even fingers would break and they couldn't be moved. They were all heavyweight monsters and very tricky, so he was a little irritable.
The pale white-haired girl walked up to him and talked to him.
"Something happened to the Wuling Box. The boss said that he would come and bleed you after he has dealt with it."
Shen Li: “…”
Bleeding again?
He originally came here to seek refuge, so isn't this just like jumping from one pit to another?
Just as Shen Li was thinking about how to explain to them that he was a little anemic, the two people beside him looked at each other at the same time.
"Did you smell it?" Zao Wu looked at Qian Shi.
Qian Shi's whole body stiffened. "I can smell it. The fragrance is getting stronger. What's going on? Is there something wrong with the boss?"
"Scent? What scent?"
Chen Li had lost his sense of smell for three days, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't smell the "fragrance" they were talking about.
"You hold on for now, I'll go help the boss!" Hayami realized something was wrong and rushed to provide support.
"What on earth are you talking about?"
Shen Li didn't understand.
Qian Shi, who stayed behind, fiddled with an abacus and hurriedly explained.
"In short, the items we deliver this time will emit a strange fragrance that will attract monsters!"
"This is weird. Before, only monsters could smell this smell. We couldn't smell it at all. But now things are serious. The smell is so strong that even humans can smell it! This smell will attract monsters from farther away. We're doomed!"
Qian Shi spoke passionately, but when he turned around, he found that there was only a chair left, and the tied Shen Li had disappeared...
