Chapter 24: The First Item: Deserted City Notes
The fox who was playing with the food suddenly raised his head and looked forward.
In the distance, a dark mass of resentment is eroding the world.
Wherever the darkness went, it was pitch dark.
The dark zone swept from the center of the city to the edge like a hurricane.
The heavy snow mixed with the fishy wind from the dark realm was blown into pieces.
On the other side of the street, the places that had been eroded by the dark realm had become decayed.
Tall buildings collapsed, the ground cracked, and resentment mixed in with the cold wind, leaving a bone-scratching pain when it blew on the face.
Ye Minglang grabbed Chen Li's hand without hesitation and ran with him in the opposite direction.
A circle of colorful neon lights suddenly emerged in the thick fog on a street corner not far away.
A strange stall was placed in the middle of the narrow alley, blocking the only way for the two people.
A man wearing gold-rimmed glasses emerged from behind the stall with a smile and waved to them in a friendly manner.
"Welcome to the Desperate Shop. I am a dungeon NPC, an NPC that will only appear when you are on the verge of life or death."
"The items sold in the Desperate Shop vary from person to person. Would you like to choose one? It may change your current fate."
The NPC had already selected three items for Shen Li on the table, ready to sell them to him at a tear-jerking bargain price.
But after seeing the other silver-haired man next to Shen Li, the NPC swept away everything on the table without hesitation and rearranged the other three items.
After doing all this, the NPC introduced them to Shen Li one by one without changing his expression.
"The three items I recommend to you today are: black hair dye, brown hair dye, and green hair dye. They are all at a bargain price of only 199 points!"
Shen Li glanced at the hair dye seriously and refused: "Sorry, I don't want to dye my hair."
The NPC seemed to be heartbroken and took out a pen to cross out the first "1".
"99 points, no less. If you don't dye your hair, you can buy it and give it to your friends who need to dye their hair, such as the one next to you."
Ye Minglang, who was standing next to Shen Li, finally couldn't stand it anymore.
"Qian Shi! Are you sure you want to steal money at this time?"
The dark area behind him was still spreading around. The wind around the dark area was very strong, and the flying sand and rocks were dazzling.
Qian Shi closed his stall with a wave of his hand and very wisely joined them in the 100-meter sprint.
While escaping, Qian Shi did not give up any points he could earn. While his feet were running fast, his hands were still fiddling with the abacus in an orderly manner.
"Are you really not going to buy a bottle of dye for my boss? The aftereffects of the dungeon will stay with him for life! His hair will be this color for the rest of his life!"
When Shen Li saw him take out the familiar abacus, he remembered who he was.
He is one of Ye Minglang's teammates and was promoted to the Tianxu [Tian] ranking list with him, so he is now a copy NPC?
Chen Li ran out of breath and rejected him in a halting manner.
"I think...he is...very good now..."
The dark zone behind him spreads at an alarming speed. If it continues like this, the entire copy will be destroyed.
Ye Minglang made a gesture to the fox behind him. The huge fox understood what he meant, picked up the heavy hat and threw it on its back, then ran in another direction.
By the time Chen Li reacted, he had already parted ways with Ye Minglang and Qian Shi.
He lay on the shaking fox's back and saw that Ye Minglang and Qian Shi were no longer running.
They chose to turn around and face the dark realm.
Qian Shi made an OK gesture to Chen Li from a distance, telling him not to worry.
The thick darkness was like a huge wave, pouring down towards the two figures and drowning them.
Fox ran to the edge of the dungeon with Shen Li, waiting for the storm to pass.
While the fox was guarding Chen Li, it was using the monster in its mouth as a teething stick.
Chen Li slid off the fox's back with lingering fear and began to check the surrounding situation.
This is a desolate courtyard with a lot of firewood piled up in the yard and many messy footprints in front of the cabin.
There is a window on the far left side of the cabin, with the curtains drawn tightly.
There was no light in the room.
I heard some noise at the door and the curtains were slightly opened.
"It's Shen Li!"
The first one to cry out was Red Hair.
He opened the window in ecstasy and was about to step out on the spot.
When the man was halfway in, he saw a huge fox head pop up next to Chen Li. Red Hair shrank back silently with his legs shaking, then closed the window and drew the curtains.
Li Dangxin, who was standing by, pushed Red Hair away and reopened the window.
Just as he was about to say a few words, he caught a glimpse of a grinning fox out of the corner of his eye, and silently closed the window and drew the curtains.
After a long while, Hongmao opened the front door a crack and squeaked a signal to Chenli to let him come in first.
But Chen Li was not good at reading people's expressions and was very slow. Li Dangxin and Hongmao had to squeak and gesture for a long time before he understood what they meant.
As soon as Chen Li entered the room, everyone in the room worked together to lift the table to hold the door shut.
Red Hair finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The flashlight focused on Shen Li's face, and the small living room suddenly became an interrogation room.
"Can you explain what's going on outside that's... taller than the building?"
Li Dangxin echoed with concern, "Yes, yes, where did you get such a scary thing? I just took a look at it and got goose bumps all over my body..."
Red Hair even exaggeratedly made a circle with his hands, "Its eyes are this big, it looked at me just now and I lost my soul!"
Chen Li explained honestly: "It is a very ancient monster, but it has been tamed and will not hurt people."
Monsters were everywhere where he used to live, so he didn't find things that ordinary people found strange strange at all.
It took the ordinary people in the room a long time to recover from the shock.
There are only Red Hair and Sister Sa in the room now, and the socially anxious person is huddled in the corner with his back to them as usual.
Blind people are never sociable. After we brought them here, they just walked away with their blind sticks, and no one knew what they were going to do.
Considering that there was not much time left for delivery, Hongmao gave a brief explanation of the situation.
"The house we are in now is next to Aunt Rengui's house, which is where the perverted killer lives."
"Sister Sa and I searched the whole house, but we couldn't find that thing."
The things in the room had been turned into a mess by them, and there was a huge pile of miscellaneous things.
They currently have no clue and cannot tell which one is the medium used by the perverted killer to travel through time.
"So I just discussed with Sister Sa, no matter what it is, just burn it all in one fire."
Although it is not easy to control the fire, fortunately there are no survivors in the town now.
After everyone reached a consensus, they poured some wine and oil into the house to help with the fire.
Everyone stood outside the house, and Red Hair lit a homemade torch and threw it into the window.
The fire started instantly.
Looking at the burning house, Red Hair felt a little confused.
"Then how can we verify that the thing has been burned?"
"Kill him one more time and you'll know."
Shen Li murmured.
"Ah?" Red Hair Yiwei thought he had misheard and asked stutteringly: "Kill... who?"
Chen Li then recounted the key points of what had just happened.
The red-haired man swallowed hard, "So you... killed him many times during the time you were apart from us?"
Li Dangxin took over the red-haired man's words: "And he, after being killed by you many times, has become a terrifying monster?"
Shen Li hummed.
“It’s really tough.”
Red Hair and Sister Sa looked at each other.
If they want to verify whether the crossing medium has been burned, they have to kill the monster that is very difficult for Shen Li again?
How could he say such terrible things with his thirty-seven-degree mouth?
"Is this something that people of our level can handle?" Red Hair questioned.
"We should be thankful that he doesn't come to cause trouble for us. It's not certain who will kill whom! This is too difficult." Even Sister Sa, who has always been strong, was a little discouraged.
"It won't be hard. He's here now."
Shen Li said, and waved to the fox.
The huge fox head came over like a pug, chewing something in its mouth and spitting out something like a meat ball.
The ball of flesh rolled in front of the burning house, squirmed twice, and then a hand stretched out from it.
The ball of flesh tissue was repairing itself quickly, and soon it used its remaining limbs to glue itself together, and it squirmed towards the crowd.
A huge fox paw slapped down from the sky, and the wind it created made everyone's faces look a little deformed.
The fox flattened the meatball completely in one go.
The scene was very exciting.
The expressions on Li Dangxin and Hongmao’s faces are even more interesting.
The socially anxious person was already retching not far away.
The fox clapped its paws and killed the monster.
Then the fox turned aside and licked its paw, while the red-haired boy covered his mouth and stared at the meat paste for a while.
"It's not alive. I think the key thing must have been burned clean."
As soon as the red-haired man finished speaking, Shen Li suddenly felt a strange breath.
He couldn't tell what it was, but his instinct told him not to let his guard down.
In front of the burning wooden house, the red-haired man who continued to observe the meat paste began to scream.
"That finger moved!"
Shen Li didn't pay much attention to the situation over there.
He followed the strange smell to the firewood pile in the yard, dug aside the top few layers of firewood covered with snow, and found a narrow door on the ground.
"Is this... a cellar?"
Li Dangxin followed and helped Chen Li open the cellar door.
If you shine the flashlight from above, you can roughly see what's below.
The cellar is not big. On the wooden shelves are stored cabbages, and on the other shelf are potatoes in sacks.
The moment he opened the cellar, Chen Li seemed to hear a child crying.
A sack leaning against the wall suddenly fell down, with resentment lingering on it.
“There’s actually a cellar!”
Redhead was also poking his head out of the cellar. "Could it be that something is in the cellar?"
Although he didn't know what had happened in this cellar, Chen Li had already sensed something strange from the resentment coming from the cellar.
Someone once died in here, and his resentment was attached to the sacks of potatoes.
His intuition told him that this place was the entrance for Alai to travel to the real world.
Chen Li made a prompt decision:
"burn."
Red Hair immediately lit another torch and threw it down from the cellar entrance.
Behind them, the newly resurrected Ale was twisting his limbs and rushing towards here.
The fox, who was licking its paws, suddenly sensed the call from its master and left them running towards the dark realm.
Redhead burned down the cellar, confident:
"This time, we just need to let the fox slap it to death once more, and it will never be able to come to the real world again! Fox...where's the fox? Brother, where's your fox!"
