Chapter 126 Spider 13

Chapter 126 Spider 13

The only thing available nearby was thatch. If they wanted to stabilize the hut, they had to re-reinforce the beams. Xu Zhao had no experience with such matters. Staying any longer would be useless, and she noticed Lin Yue wasn't in good shape. Perhaps it was the sun's glare; sweat was dripping down his forehead. His fingers, resting on her feet, would occasionally curl, their cool touch gently touching her bare ankle before quickly leaving.

Xu Zhao stepped back, clinging to the eaves of the thatched hut and looking down.

It was easy to get up, but much harder to get down. If her foot hadn't been injured, she could have jumped down. But given her current condition, her ankle was already a little swollen, and if she jumped down, her leg would be useless.

Lin Yue obviously noticed her dilemma.

To climb up, she only needed to grab the beams and use the force to push up. When coming down, the distance between the roof and his back still required Xu Zhao to jump.

"Get out of the way. I'll jump."

Xu Zhao: "Move the stone jar away, I'll jump onto the haystack."

The presence of grass piles will probably reduce the damage caused by ground shock.

Lin Yue stretched out his hands, slightly opened them, his chest bare, his skin delicate and fair, with scars across it, his abdomen bloody, the gauze already glaringly red.

He looked into Xu Zhao's eyes, which seemed to be filled with blazing sunlight and an unquestionable determination. He slowly withdrew his hands, stood on the ground, and moved the stone jar away.

"Okay. Jump down."

He stood nearby as the sun scorched, the thin skin tingling with blisters. He ignored the tingling and itching that formed on his skin. He watched Xu Zhao's movements intently. As she clutched the beams and leaped toward the ground, he stepped forward, wrapping his chest and abdomen around her. He was crushed to the ground, his body limp, his blood staining the weeds.

He cried out in pain and blinked. Xu Zhao was lying in his arms unharmed. The hand holding her waist slowly loosened, and the warm touch quickly disappeared.

Xu Zhao: "You...what are you doing here!"

Lin Yue was so frail that even standing upright, he looked like he would fall at any moment. She could certainly ask him to carry her down, but he had so many wounds that even the slightest effort could tear them, exacerbating the pain.

So she would rather jump. After all, it was just a sprained ankle, the pain was nothing.

Who would have thought that Lin Yue agreed obediently, but stupidly caught her with his body.

"I'm pretty heavy, are you hurt?" Xu Zhao quickly rolled over, covered in weeds. He ignored his wishes and grabbed his wrists with both hands, saying, "... Let's go back to the house and apply medicine as soon as possible. The wound hasn't stopped bleeding yet, and it's bleeding again. Are you trying to kill yourself?"

“Not heavy.”

It was strange. Lin Yue's wounds tore open again. The piercing wound on his shoulder blade, the gnawing wounds on his waist and abdomen, and the wounds of all sizes, all ached. Even the pain was so intense that it felt like the very seams between his bones were screaming. Yet, he found this pain bearable, even though it was no more painful than a spider's bite.

The spider's lower limbs were sturdy and powerful. The bristles covering its legs gently brushed against Xu Zhao's legs. Her pants had holes in them, and the bristles rubbed directly against her skin, like being touched by a stuffed toy.

Xu Zhao focused her attention on Lin Yue's upper body, which was broken and fragile, lying on the ground. She pulled his wrist and slowly dragged him back into the hut.

The roof was covered with thick thatch, and the gaps were sealed tightly. Even though it was almost noon, the thatched house would become dark when the door was closed.

Xu Zhao took out the medicine from his backpack.

Lin Yue lay on his side, his eyes fixed on her. Her back was thin and slender, her arms were covered in scratches, and her ankles were slightly swollen. He actually felt that the wounds on her body were a hundred times more painful than the ones he had endured.

If only I could get hurt for her.

He pursed his lips and gently responded to Xu Zhao's subconscious condemnation when he was outside: "...Yes."

Damn it.

He wanted to keep this worthless life that should not have lingered on any longer.

He poured out all the medicine in his backpack. Following Lin Yue's instructions, Xu Zhao stopped the bleeding from the most serious wound on his abdomen, disinfected it, and then wrapped clean clothes around his waist.

White skin, red blood, black blood scabs, all kinds of colors mixed together on his narrow waist. I really don't understand how such a weak and thin body could endure such inhuman torture.

Xu Zhao finished treating his wound. Lin Yue said, "And yours."

"That's nothing," Xu Zhao said, unconcerned, casually applying the potion. "Your wound is more serious. Lin Yue, since we're friends, I have something to say. Your body is your own. If you don't feel sorry for it, no one will."

Lin Yue pursed his lips and lay on the ground, his face covered in dust.

Both were very dirty and weak. They didn't care whether it was clean or not, as long as they had a place to lie down and rest, that was enough.

"We are friends."

"yes."

Lin Yue stopped talking and glanced at the piercing wound on his abdomen. It was hideous and horrific. But now, he wanted the wound to heal, wanted his lost strength back as quickly as possible. He didn't want to be like a useless person, unable to do anything.

His fingertips moved and gently pinched the corner of Xu Zhao's clothes hanging on the ground.

Those were his clothes. He was wearing a rather short, narrow long-sleeved shirt, and on Xu Zhao, the sleeves and hems looked long.

After repairing the beams, Xu Zhao felt that her relationship with Lin Yue had grown closer. He wasn't as distant and indifferent as he appeared, but rather surprisingly gentle. Therefore, she took the initiative to bring up the indifference and carelessness she had noticed in his life when she saw him yesterday.

"You have the ability to protect yourself, but you let them catch you and hurt you. Lin Yue, I don't know what happened before that led you to have such an attitude. But now, considering that I saved you yesterday, don't put yourself in danger again, okay?"

I thought it would take some more talking, but Lin Yue said, "Okay," as soon as she finished speaking.

Xu Zhao: "..."

If she had known this, she wouldn't have had to rack her brain for words of comfort. Playing with her hair, she said, "That's good."

She'd stayed here longer than she'd imagined. She'd even become friends with Lin Yue, something Xu Zhao hadn't anticipated. It felt pretty good. After all, in Blackwater Town, where everyone was hostile to outsiders, Lin Yue was the only person she'd met with whom she could confide.

She looked through the food in her backpack.

Bread, chocolate, milk, all divided into two portions.

"I brought enough food. These are for you. Remember to eat if you're hungry. You look like you haven't eaten in a while. If those spiders don't taste good, don't force yourself... Well, there's plenty of food in town. If there's anything you want, tell me and I'll get it for you."

She meant to get it.

The shops in town were closed. But if Lin Yue needed help, she would find a way, even if it meant using unconventional means.

Divide the food. Xu Zhao put on her backpack and was about to stand up when she was pulled backwards by an unknown force. She looked down and saw that it was Lin Yue's fingers, tightly grasping the corner of her clothes, his nails almost tearing through them.

"What's wrong?"

Lin Yue warned himself that it was impolite to grab a girl's clothes and he should let go quickly. But his outward behavior showed that his fingers kept tightening, tears welled up in his eyes, and he tried to look up at Xu Zhao.

"You, you're leaving?"

Xu Zhao hummed, "It's getting late. I didn't go home all night yesterday. Besides, I paid several hundred yuan for the hotel."

Lin Yue was silent.

After a while, he asked, "If you leave here, will you come back?"

Xu Zhao was surprised: "Of course I will come back. Do you think I will never come back after I leave? Why do you have such an idea?"

Because he's a monster. An ugly, disgusting spider.

Lin Yue slowly loosened his fingers, his tears glued to her face: "Then, then I'll wait for you."

Xu Zhao left. The footsteps gradually faded. Lin Yue clenched his fingers one by one, clutching his empty palms, as if trying to grasp something out of thin air. He dragged his frail body back into the corner, cradling the food Xu Zhao had left behind in his arms. The cold plastic wrappers seemed to carry Xu Zhao's scent, and he sniffed them intently.

Finally, he put his cheek against it and recalled her every move, every frown and smile.

Xu Zhao. Xu Zhao. Xu Zhao.

He silently chanted her name. He wished he could blink, the sky would turn from dark to bright again. The days would pass quickly. Xu Zhao also wanted to return to this shabby, slightly grimy thatched hut soon.
